Yunho of boy group TVXQ revealed the details of what happened after his infamous poison accident in 2006 on celebrity-fan talk show “Star Gazing“.
On the July 24 broadcast of “Star Gazing”, Yunho talked about his poison incident in 2006. He said that a fan came up to him and gave him a drink. Out of habit, he took the drink and drank the whole bottle in one shot.
Only after gulping it down he realized that there was an odd scent to the drink.
He fainted shortly afterwards. He reminisced about how someone told him that he was bleeding when he fell. He later found out that the drink contained super glue.
He said, “after the incident, I briefly considered quitting the entertainment industry. I couldn’t even talk to people properly. My eyes would keep wandering. I think I might have had an anxiety disorder.” He also added, “I did get treatment, and later I was angry at having that trauma. So I tried to recover by drinking the same brand of the beverage.”

TVXQ really had/have some of the craziest fan
I can't imagine dealing with that kind of ""attention""

I would have quit...so glad to hear he got treatment and saw someone about his trauma

and still, years from then, sm does nothing about sasaeng "fans"

I always feel that SM encourages this sasaeng behaviour since they are the big spenders. Money first, artistes' well-being in the hundred (waaaay at the bottom).

i don't wanna put a curse on anyone, but they should enforce even a little bit of restraint because one day they might very well kill someone. yunho could have died then, and others could have died in the car crashes they cause.

It's at the back of my mind too. SM has always been nonchalant about the whole sasaeng thing and I don't want them to wait until the worst case scenario for them to react because that would be just too little too late.

it's a lot more complicated than sme encouraging it

I get a feeling sm are worried saesangs "know too much" to be messed with and that's why they don't do anything about them in case saesangs get angry and start revealing all their secrets

It was an anti-fan. But still, ia I can't imagine hating someone you've never met so much that you'd go out of your way to harm them that badly.

i don't think there is an offical subbing group for the show, but fans of the guesting idols usually sub their episode (cuts).

Well it was because Yunho didn't want to press charges since she was the same age as his little sister and felt bad or something, I don't remember what the exact details were but she got off way too easily *sigh*

So crazy that this really happened, what was going on in the head of that girl, trying to kill a person, just because she doesn't like his music/ public persona? And Yunho is an angel for dropping the charges back then.

He was incredible for getting through that ordeal. I hold special admiration for the DB5K boys, it feels like they've always had it the worst no thanks to SM.

Though if history ever repeated itself (knock on wood), I'm pretty sure they'd want/try to sue (whether SM lets them or not is another story)

edit: not that I pay much attention to EXO, I'm just basing this off of Omona posts of diff members calling out sasaengs and the general trend of idols not taking as much abusive/stalkerish bullshit.

that girl wasn't a fan of his though it was an anti. like, does't make a difference that it's still crazy but she did it out of hate not attention.

Seeing how it changed him just.. ;__; like it was hard to watch him fumble with drinks/water looking for unopened ones or hesitate when it came to finish his opened cans/bottles that he drank from before. I'm glad he got treatment and worked through his trauma and feel comfortable enough today to talk about it. On one hand I kinda feel he should have gone ahead with pressing charges, same age as his sister or not, they still deliberately risked your life. I'm just happy he's healthy and happy now, and I hope people won't experience the same thing.

I'm not blaming him because obviously he was the victim of something terrible, but I felt it was mad irresponsible of him to let her go. It's that kind of lenient attitude from artists and especially their companies that allows this kind of crazy to go unchecked. Probably not a good idea to respond to criminal malicious intent by saying, 'Oh, it's okay. Try not to be a homicidal maniac next time!'.

I don't think it's 'kind' of Yunho to have done that. I think it's dangerous.

At any rate, definitely glad he got treatment. Always a good thing to see celebrities in the public eye openly talking about getting help. And something as extreme as this, good for him for pushing through it.

I'm forever convinced that SME encouraged him not to sue her for fear of a high profile case turning fans against them. I could be crazy and tinhatting here but idk, I can totally imagine them doing that. They make mad profit off these overly invested fans and there are so many conflicting opinions over whether she was a fan or an anti, etc. I'll always wonder - as kind as Yunho is, I don't think he's "let a crazed maniac go about continuing to poison idols out of some sort of duty to his sister" kind.

Date: 2014-07-27 04:26 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alleybetwixt.livejournal.com
As far as I can remember, she outed herself as an anti and took pride in it. I can't imagine any fan holding it against SME for making sure she was charged. I recall a lot of fans being furious she wasn't punished and the only thing that tempered them was because it was Yunho's choice. Dude was poisoned though. I highly doubt anyone would argue against her being reprimanded in some way.

So, I don't think what you're suggesting was the case, but I see your point. There's no way we'll know what the real politics behind the scenes were at the time.

It was definitely a really weird situation. I just can't see why he didn't press charges LOL I wonder if he or they just thought it would look bad to sue a 14 year old? After all, that's the reason most police give for not pursuing sasaengs.

Mte. I mean, I believe he's one of those genuinely nice guys, but yeah... Not only what she did was dangerous to him, but what she did was extreme and obviously she needs help...

I really hate remembering this horrible incident ever happened. Nobody deserves to go be poisoned like that, and for it to happen to Yunho of all people. Like, nobody he encounters has anything negative to say about him and it's ridiculous that someone would go out of her way to deliberately hurt someone that way. Ugh. :(

whenever i just think abt it i get beyond livid. he was just too fucking kind to have let her go
and yeah it was an anti-fan...same diff i guess.

and iirc although he didn't press any charges bc he's too kind for his own good she actually said
she was disappointed that it didn't kill him. like. fucking. girl. why.
