jyj tv commercial
2014-07-23 11:39 amBoy band JYJ has unveiled a television commercial that will be used to promote the group as a “brand.” The new advertisement comes ahead of the act’s forthcoming comeback.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the group explained that the commercial aims to emphasize how much dynamism the boys have when they perform as a band. The representative said, “JYJ has been at the top of Korean entertainment, through individuals’ drama, movie and musical performances, as well as their solo work. We wanted to find a way to express the synergy they have when they are together.”
The spokesperson added, “The commercial is not intended to just promote the new JYJ album or the boys’ forthcoming tour. We wanted to boost JYJ’s brand awareness.”

Date: 2014-07-23 03:29 pm (UTC)It's a way of taking a product or person to the next level where you associate them with something more than just singer, actress, reality star etc. In JYJ's case it's a way for them to become more than "the ex boyband members that sued that huge company and are banned from broadcast tv." It's a way for JYJ to become synonymous with quality(music, dramas etc), good services (amazing concerts, reliable endorsements etc) high morals and ethics (working hard for their accomplishments, not letting anyone stand in their way etc) and so much more.
As individuals JYJ already has somewhat of brand recognition but as the Group JYJ, their brand kind of needs work lol, so this is why I'm so excited they are doing this but feel the timing is kind of off bc they are trying to establish a brand right before they go to the army and that's kind of like :/ . This is long winded I know but I love talking about stuff like this, I wish I was JYJ PR/Marketing person, I would have starting working on JYJ branding as soon as they left SM.

Date: 2014-07-23 05:28 pm (UTC)I felt the same way about the timing because it seems that they'll be building up momentum then suddenly leaving but maybe it'll be enough to tide them over til they come back. It would have been ideal to start work on it at the beginning because a lot of the public still see them as ex (or even current lol) DBSK members, but I think money may have been a big factor. The soompi article doesn't say, but Mwave (http://mwave.interest.me/enewsworld/en/article/71452/jyj-brand-commercial-to-air-on-television) mentions that this will cost them 1 billion won. Definitely not a light investment.
Also going to add that all the ambassador roles really could add a lot to the JYJ brand, the idea of being at the forefront of the Hallyu wave but as more than just artists. They are representatives of Korea that shine a spotlight on various social issues etc. I mean the list of things they've been ambassadors for is really quite impressive (despite all the subsequent betrayals and backstabbing incidents -.-)
