2014's Miss Korea !! Seoul's Kim Seo Yeon

A student from Ewha Womans University has been crowned Miss Korea 2014, organizers said on Tuesday.

Kim Seo-yeon, a 22-year-old student majoring business management in the school, competed with about 50 contestants in the final round of the annual beauty pageant held at Olympic Hall in southeastern Seoul, to win the coveted title.

"I would like to express gratitude to my family and organizing committee officials," she said in her acceptance speech.Kim boasts her Western-style figure ― she is 172.8 centimeters tall and weighs 52.4 kilograms.

She will represent the country in the Miss World 2014 scheduled for December in London.

I also read that article, I remember somebody posted it here. Her story sounds really depressing and sad. The drama is set in 1997 but reflects what was said in the article. I cannot believe that so many girls willingly go through this but if you look at past winners: Honey Lee, Boyoung Lee etc. it makes sense.

There's prestige attached to the competition, esp in Asia. Modelling is hell too bit people will kill to be a part of it.

Same in Latin America, my cousin has dozens of regional titles but failed to get the national title. She was close!! All of that exposure and networking did help her set up a good career though since she's from a real humble background.

yeah korea/seoul is fucking insanely tiny. everyone's cousin, hs upperclassmen or whatever is someone famous* or high ranking. i know so and so always comes out of people's mouths lmao. / and i've rolled my eyes at what people i've met have claimed and called bullshit but i've missed out on some shit on multiple occasions for not believing them ahaha

She told me he was basically the awkward kind of chubby kid that thought he was cool but really wasn't. He used to try to be in with the cool kids at school but they kind of rejected him.

I don't think GD went to the same school. My friend didn't say anything about him. She didn't talk much to TOP, either, so she doesn't have any specific stories. She said she didn't pay much attention to him. I guess he mostly went ignored in high school.

just being extra over all of this, saying stuff like "sooyoung is the real miss korea", "she's better than all these gangnam unnies" (which is hilar considering how much ps soo has done) bla bla. lol idk why i'm annoyed, it's pretty typical stan behavior. but ever since that photo from last year's contestants went viral (where all of them looked similar) there's been a weird attitude from int fans about miss korea

I don't know if I buy some of these. The photos on the right look pre-op for a lot of these contestants actually. Like for example just in the first photo the nose (and jaw...and eyes...) is REALLY different and I don't think it's all Photoshop/make up magic.

And even then who would think this is a good idea, and did the dude who edited the photos get fired? How are judges or even casual viewers gonna glean from the photos any sense of who is whom?

it's not pre-op because those photos were taken solely for the miss korea contest right before the make up... and honestly it's amazing what angles/lightings/blur tool can do.

honestly korea has way too narrow standard for beauty, the guy who edited this probably thought what he was doing was the best to make them look "beautiful." but yeah, the photoshop was an overkill enough that even the koreans complained that they all looked the same.

Lmao what? Where did you come up with me not liking snsd or sooyoung? Is it from that thread the other day about them and the wonder girls? LOL. Girl snsd is what got me into kpop. I love them (slightly less this year, but I'm still fond of them). As for sooyoung i never said anything against her, only her stans. And yes I figured that's why they were so extra. As usual people pay too much attention to netizens. But anyway you don't need to put down other girls just to elevate sooyoung. Calling them gangnam unnies makes them just like netizens.

And being the best actress in snsd doesn't mean much, js.
