YAY! i knew 'butterfly' and 'bad girl' would be my kind of songs 'you' was a really nice surprise saturday was cool too but 'need you now' sounded better on teaser
I was worried because other than the violin I'm not a big fan of Fantastic (the single) and I thought I'd never be fully happy with a Henry album but I actually LOVE this album. It's almost the perfect little summer album/mini. Gives me driving with the ocean breeze in my hair vibes, lol. Need You Know is the epitome of that laid back summer feel. Bruno Mars-ish.
Saturday is fun. Butterfly is cute. I can't put my finger on what it reminds me of but there is something very 90s about You and I love the hell out of it. Really digging Bad Girl as well. I'm very happy with it overall.
Putting Chanyeol in there, even if barely for 10 seconds, is smart if the goal is exposure. EXO's (very large) fandom will check out/buy the track (and maybe the rest of the album) because of Chanyeol and fans of just Henry will hear Chanyeol in it and maybe check out Chanyeol/EXO. And SM doesn't even have to spend extra money or effort on it lol.
Saturday is such a jam. Best song over all imo but i think that's cuz i prefer groovy songs with a throwback feel. I could see him in bellbottoms and rollerblades in my mind when I was listening to it for some reason. Hey, that's an MV idea!
On a serious note, while I think this is great mini, I always find that the problem with his music is his voice. He doesn't have a very strong voice and I privately feel its a waste to let such great songs go to him. Does that sound terrible? I know its him and his production team Noizebank that create the songs in the first place, so why shouldn't he have his own music? But every time I hear him trying to reach those high notes I think to myself that one of the vocalists in SJ or Shinee or EXO could hit that with more impact behind it. But that's my only criticism! It's still a great summer mini! Henry, I love you, I do!
And Chanyeol sounded great on Bad Girl. That's my second fave track btw.
I give Henry points for writing and producing his own songs, something that a lot of famous singers (not just idols) don't really do. IA that there are tons of other singers out there who are better vocalists but his voice is actually just enough for dance pop tracks (much like Justin Bieber, but lol, IDK if he's the best example). I guess it can be worked on with vocal training but given that he is restrained in that aspect, the best course of action for him would be to write and perform songs that suit him and his limited range :))
It's not even (just) about his range though, because I think he's pretty decent at giving himself stuff he can sing (like what Hyori did with her last album too). His tone just isn't very pleasant, and I don't really know if he can change that.
yup i'll give him points for writing and producing his own songs too. like i said, i know his music production company creates the songs. they make some pretty good music. i wish them all the best.
Seulgi sounds like taeyeon before all the years of vocal strain.

I'm just gonna sit here and unironically love on this. I like Seulgi's voice, can't quite pick out who she reminds me of (closest I've got is a v. young Taeyeon) but she's pleasant. When the hell are they debuting those girls? Anyway, album is great fun to listen to, I think You may be the sexiest thing he's ever done, and Saturday is a straight-up disco JAM. ♥
