Gag Concert has done black face numerous times. In the three friends skit they did a shitty black face about Brazilians and a few weeks back rather sadly my favourite skit King of Ratings did black face where some guy was dressed as Dennis Rodman. This show needs its ass dragged. It's really unforgivable.
but korea is not america! but this isn't racism because korea! but in order to do black face u literally have to look that shit up on the internet and they dont have internet in korea so i'm sure they have no idea how offensive this is because korea!
i truly don't understand "punch down" humor about skin color at all, it's such a cheap way of getting laughs. as comedians don't you want to like, aim higher???? idk fuck this whole thing
I don't get how they are still doing this. I mean, there's been so much outrage before and I thought that the outrage really DID reach S.K. I mean look how fast YG reacted with CL's track. So they know that the international world does not look kindly on this, but they just don't care? So messed up.
Did the outrage reach SK though? I know it reached Omona, but I don't know that it was ever an issue in SK. If it had been, they wouldn't still be doing it, would they?
In regards to the CL thing, that was something different entirely if you're talking about the Quranic verse in her song. That sparked the outrage of Muslims worldwide, but I don't see the issue of blackface being raised on such a wide scale level.
It boggles my mind to know that there are people who still don't understand why blackface is wrong. And no matter how you explain it to them its like talking to a brick wall that is behind a steel one. I mean really people, the concept is not that hard to grasp.
It's like we can't even chalk it up to being ignorance anymore. This is just outright racism, and I haven't even had the heart to watch the clip.
I used to watch this program all the time when I was younger, and it seems that more than just its humor has gone down the drain -_-
I just do not understand why stuff like this is considered "funny" by some people. Do they not get the concept that we are all people...? Not one culture or race should have higher/lower "ranking" compared to others, but why do these dehumanizing things occur so often?
Whenever shit like this happens in Korea, I can't help but feel an added sense of bitterness because let's say some other country did a skit on a popular comedy program and let's say that said skit played (inaccurately) with Korean culture, dehumanized them, and blatantly did yellow-face.
I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure that that would NOT fly at all with Koreans. Anger, shame, sadness... I'm sure a lot of people would feel these types of emotions.
SO Why is it so hard to understand that other people (of a different race) would feel the same way? Where's the sense of empathy, or the ability to put one's self in someone else's shoes? ...Are these people that /stupid/?
Ugh, I just woke up, idk if my ramblings are even ok or not, I'm just hurt and upset. Also, kinda tangent~ but Are there any other half-Korean half-Black Omonanians (?) out there like me that feels a weird combination of shame and hurt/anger/offense when Korea does stuff like this? I can't be the only one. Like, this feeling of embarrassment, even though you have nothing to do with the racism.
I'm not angry though...but I'm right there with you with the embarrassment. I like to think that Korea has come far with things like this but when I see stuff like this I feel like whats the point. One backwards bastard has to come ruin it for everybody. When I was growing up in Korea surprisingly I never dealt with racism, My neighborhood was really chill.... it wasn't until I came to America that I experienced racism ironically it was from the black community. I'm just very upset about this.
VERY tasteful and down right disgusting I saw it coming though......hope whoever did the skit and performer eat food and it tastes like horse ass I dont know if anybody knows this but there's this white guy who used the n-word in order to get attention towards an article about my president the title is "N***** in the White House" without the asterisk
supposedly its a tongue in cheek humor and he's down with Obama but....
I think it will take South Korea time to become more culturally sensitive to other races, religions and cultures. It's only been in the last few decades that they've really started being a more multicultural society.
And really? I don't really know why people feel compelled to act as if their own countries/people aren't as or haven't been as racist, bigoted, etc.
It's true that in the US now, being sensitive to other cultures and races is politically correct thing to do. But when I think of the whole scale discrimination against immigrants, especially illegal ones, that a whole lot of people seem okay with, it makes me realize how far there is to go.
Other countries may be better or worse then the US, but I'm willing to bet they all have their own little niches of prejudice and racism.
Instead, maybe we should come up with plans on how to combat such things, like leaving notes and messages explaining the offensive nature of the content.
People have done this, but the problem is are they listening, do they listen and do they care too. A while back a young black woman went to youtube to talk about another blackface incident from another show. The company apologizes, but they still keep doing things like this.
It is easy to right a letter, or leave messages, or post videos explaining, but until they actually begin to listen...this is just gonna keep repeating itself. Its sad to see.
Usually, I go for "big picture" rationalizing, but THIS is a constant issue in K-enertainment.Honestly, I feel the only way Koreans will understand why this stuff isn't cool, is if someone does it to them. Thank you for making me feel less shitty for not buying your entertainment, SK. My groups are doing fine without my money, as half of my faves are in the TOP 5.
How would you even begin to throw these people to the wolves, when not everyone is willing to admit this is racist? Difficult.
I dunno about S.Korea as a whole (and I'm not about to get into that complicated mess) but Gag Concert and KBS know what the fuck they're are doing. They've done this kind of skit before. Two to three weeks later, they upload the subbed ver onto their youtube channel and get a ton of dislikes and rage filled comments and then the vid gets taken down or set to private. They know people find it offensive and controversial but they just don't care. Surprise surprise.
I watched the video to see what the content was and I was brought to tears and had to stop watching. It's horrible.
Flagged the video on youtube and wrote a message to their youtube channel and now trying emailing KBS global at intl@kbs.co.kr (KBS International Relations - whatever that means) in the hopes that at least someone might see and be made to think!!! Any other ideas of how to put in complaints and I'll be on it.
