JYJ will not be in Incheon Asian Games Opener

K-pop boy band JYJ will not perform at the opening ceremony of this year’s Incheon Games.

The organizing committee announced in a press conference that they have tapped EXO, Psy and CNBLUE to perform at the opener on Sept. 19.

JYJ was relegated to performing at the less prestigious pre-opening ceremony.

Fans protested the decision by posting messages on the games’ official Facebook page.

One message read, “We want to JYJ perform for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Incheon Asian games 2014.”

Another went, “My wish is for JYJ to be able to perform on the main stage of IAG’s opening and closing ceremony.”

Yet another added, “I wish that you would do the honourable thing and respect JYJ. They have done so much to help promote IAG.”

C-Jes Entertainment, JYJ’s agency, has released a statement in reaction to the announcement.

“A month ago in a meeting, the organization committee asked whether JYJ could appear at the press conference, which would cover the opening and closing ceremony. We said we would attend after coordinating the singers′ schedules. The committee didn′t contact us after that, and we did not receive any notice about the press conference,” said the agency as quoted by ENewsWorld.

The agency pointed out that, “The organization committee guaranteed us attendance at the opening and closing ceremonies as well as a finale performance. We said we would be honored especially to work with Psy, as he is a senior and a greatly renowned singer. The Incheon Asian Games needs to carry out the promises it made to us.”

Notably, JYJ has been promoting the games around Asia after being appointed as its goodwill ambassador in February last year. They even recorded “Only One,” the official song for the games.

JYJ has been in similar situations prior.

IN 2011, their TV appearance promoting Jeju Island as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature was cancelled despite having been named as the campaign’s honorary ambassador.

In October 2012, JYJ member Junsu’s performance at the opening ceremony of the 32nd National Para Games was not shown on TV, angering fans.

I feel very angry about this and I don't even stan JYJ like that. The unfairness of the situation is unsettling, I don't know how JYJ fans have dealt with this for the past five years.
