This is a bit tedious to explain, so I hope you will understand.
When something contains adult material and thus it is not suitable for underaged people, you will see this symbol along with the words "19금지" which mean "prohibited to people under 19 years of age". In the first picture, the guy is very VERY excited because he found a book under his uncle's bed which has the 19-symbol on it, and it reads "금", so he thinks it's a book with adult content. But when he flips to the next page, he realizes it's actually a calendar, and that 금 was short for 금요일(Friday), because the next page says "20토" (Saturday, the 20th). I'll leave the explanation for the presence of a roll of toilet paper to your own imagination. ^^''
