he looks pretty good in their recent airport photos, but he still looks very different to me than he did in face era. i'd like to think his look just matured in 2 years, but idk...... something about it throws me off

I think he did mature a bit, and I'm also thinking that they don't use as heavy eyeliner on him as much. Makeup might be a little different and his hairstyling is different (they covered up half of his face in Face, then pretty much hid the right eye or whatnot for the following promotions).

But I think a little PS was done on him. Tragic, really.
