OP wasn't expecting this: Miss A’s Suzy and Ryu Seung Ryong Confirmed for ‘Dorihwaga’

Ready to jump into historical times, miss A’s Suzy and Ryu Seung Ryong confirmed their roles in the upcoming new movie Dorihwaga (tentative).



On June 16, the production company for Dorihwaga announced through a press release that Suzy and Ryu Seung Ryong have been confirmed for the movie about pansori, Korea folk music.

Dorihwaga is based on the true story of pansori writer, who wrote the song Dorihwaga for his poverty-stricken apprentice.. Ryu Seung Ryong will be playing the teacher, Shin Jae Hyo, while Suzy will be the apprentice, Jin Chae Sun.

The movie will be directed by Lee Jong Pil and is looking into a premiere in 2015.

Based on the real story of Shin Jae-Hyo and Chae-Sun.
Shin Jae-Hyo (Ryoo Seung-Ryong ) teaches pansori (traditional Korean musical storytelling) to Chae-Sun (Bae Suzy). The woman was born to a female shaman. Chae-Sun possesses a gift for performing pansori.
Meanwhile, Daewongun, the most powerful man in Joseon and the father of the King, is attracted to Chae-Sun and makes her his concubine. Shin Jae-Hyo realizes he loves Chae-Sun and writes the song "Dorihwaga".

Sooo, he'll be her leading man. I love both, so I will probably go down with this crackship

so it will be a story mentor being in love with his student? the king dad thing makes me go a bit :/ over all these older and powerful men going after suzy's character. ngl i thought that the third part would be a younger man like in the movie 'a muse'.

anyway, RSR is an outstanding actor and suzy is having the honor to work with him, i hope she takes advantage of that and learns a lot from him. now i can't help but be a bit more hopeful over the movie since RSR chose the project, so i think the script is good.

my problem wasn't even the fact that they were older, but the power play both seem to have over her character.

hopefully the screen play is good and we'll written, maybe she is the one with power.

Awwnnn, I thought that you'd already done one so I submitted mine just in case, and was waiting for it to be refused lol. The power play also irked me at first, but it's not like poor artist women at that time (and, oh lord, even now) weren't explored right and left. This will be a really difficult and sorrowful role for Suzy to play and I'm sure that she's going to learn so much from it. What really saddens me is that people are already jumping on her throat, when they haven't seen even one scene of her from the movie yet, or didn't bother to watch the whole episodes of Gu Family Book to see how much she improved. People are refusing to give her a chance, with an excuse that there're so much better actresses than her, when they forget that there're also actresses with 10+ years of experience that are wayyy worse and with not even half of the presence and charisma that she has.

yeah, i am relying in the script, if RSR accepted to be on it i can only think that there is a really good story to tell.

honestly, that used to bother me as well, but i learned to have thicker skin and ignore it. the fact that she is an idol will haunt her for a long time, they always act the same way, when she is casted she gets hate from the public, but when the project airs they tend to completely adore her and her character (other than the few bitter betties and people that will never like her no matter what). plus it comforts me that in the end of the day, people wanting or not, she is the only idol who is actually seem as a true actress and tv/movie star among her peers by professionals of the area and that can have big projects under her name.

See, for me, she has this boatload of charm and presence on variety shows, cfs, public appearances, etc. that evaporates the instant she steps in front of camera assuming a role/persona other than Suzy.

I think it will be one sided of his part and there's also the fact that she's going to be a concubine. Also, I don't know how it was in Korea at that time, but barely 60 years ago in my country it was really normal for 14-15 y/o girls to marry really older men. Nowadays, it's considered pedophilia for obvious reasons.

I like Suzy, and I think she's got the looks out of all the current idol-actors to become an actress...but girl cannot act. I get so much second hand embarrassment watching her, but hopefully since her last project she's become better??

i will never be able to understand why everyone hates suzy's acting so much. i'm not gonna say that she is the best actress of her generation or smth but she isn't bad at all. there are some really wooden actresses who can't emote A THING (i'm looking at you han ga in) but they never get so much hate and nobody brings up their flop acting. well i guess that's where "idol" label comes in play...
anyways i'm really excited about this project and it's such an honor to be in a movie with rsr and i hope she learns a lot from him. this is a great opportunity.
