I can never look at Key the same way again since I saw him on charity TV show say to an orphan girl (who's dream to work with beauty). That she was too ugly to work in the beauty industry.
I can't see the video, but wasn't that years ago? I mean, calling a person ugly is not nice (that's why I cringe @ certain people calling idols ugly and even "gross" on the regular) but I don't see the point in bringing shit that they've done long time ago. If we brought every single thing that idols have said in their younger days almost nobody would be safe. You could expect he has matured since then because I don't remember him saying anything "questionable" since 2009...And he has done very nice things too, like supporting that girl who was cutting herself but ofc people only bring the bad shit they do.
He didn't call her ugly out and out. They talked about how one of Key's flaws was he was too honest/blunt, and to work on that told him to say a certain phrase. The girl said she wanted to work in beauty or whatever, and he said the phrase. And iirc he actually said he was just kidding. And this was like SUPER long ago if it's the same incident I'm thinking of...it was that show SuJu had about mentoring.
I haven't watched the show but I remember that it happened YEARS ago and that he really didn't call her ugly. I honestly don't see the point in bringing the shit that certain idols have done centuries ago, especially when the post is not about ~problematic~ things. It's like if I went to a SNSD MV post bringing Taeyeon's Alicia Keys' comment, Tiffany laughing @ an earthquake's name, Hyoyeon's comment about Bora's dark skin, etc...People change and mature over the years so I don't see the point of bringing such a thing for people to hate on him when it's clear that he's not like that anymore. Why not bringing the good things he has done?
People can feel however they want about him, for whatever reason. But misinformation is just not ok in my book.
In case anyone wants to see it within context, here's where they talk about him being too honest. (http://youtu.be/AOZRg8L35ms?t=3m25s)
And here's what he said:
(It won't embedded to start at the right time, so start at 3:04 if you want to skip right the contestants intro.)
Watching it again for the first time in forever, he didn't call her ugly at all. It was Shindong who made his comment seem like he was calling her unattractive. IMO what he meant was it's enough to focus on being smart, you don't have to worry about being hot~ too. The look on his face when they started telling him to say "but you're still pretty" was obv that he didn't mean it as anything negative.
But if ppl want to interpret it a different way they are more than welcome to.
oh is *that* what they were talking about? because i was looking for receipts of shinee being on that show they linked and nothing was to be found. what key said on suju miracle show could be seen as shady, ymmv, but certainly not as cut and dry assholey as they put it. plus as you said, you have to actually watch more of the show than that 10 seconds to get context but w/e. no1curr.
oh is *that* what they were talking about? That's the only show I could THINK of that he made a comment like that, that ppl STILL bring up.
Yeah, Key is definitely a bitch sometimes, but never just and out-and-out asshole for nothing. He was bitchy af on SGB, but it was obv, as every other time, part of his variety "character".
And context, on the internet? That's absurd apparently.
The song is so shiny (Yes, pun intended). I want to puke rainbows and dance with unicorns. No, really, that's how much I like the song. I want to dance in the middle of the street while twirling my umbrella. What am I saying? I think I need to sleep. XD
The song is great and the MV is the quintessential boyband MV, which I love in all it's variations and independent of who does it: Camping/Barbecue/hanging out with friends in the woods is always a great and potentially heartwarming concept.
I have to echo a Youtube comment I saw on this: I stan idiots. *sigh* These guys are embarrassing but I love them.
I can't help but be reminded of a time when they were all joking on a radio show about cute concepts and how they are too old for them now. I can just imagine their facepalms when they get given something like this.
When did they say that? Because idk, I don't think they're "too old" for this kind of concept. They're still all under 25 and this concept is more "bright and funny" than cutesy itself.
I'm really sorry, I had a look for it but I can't find the source. I just remember they were on a radio show and they were talking about different concepts and joking about doing a cutesy concept all the time, then one of them said they wouldn't suit cutesy concepts anymore as they were all older now (I'm paraphrasing, can't remember word for word). It was the same show where a host asked if SM still gives them concepts and they said they wouldn't listen even if SM did (I don't know if that will help anyone to find it).
You're right though, this is more 'bright and funny' than cutesy. I think it's mostly their goofy expressions. I'm sure they still had fun making this. They don't look pained like they did in their latest Etude CF at least! :p
I think I remember some of that. It was when they said that most of their image was created by the company or something like that? Like for example they implied that Onew's ~dubu~ image or Taemin's ~innocent maknae~ image were all stage personas and they weren't like that irl. I remember that but not the part when they said they were too old for cute concepts.
Like I said this is not cutesy itself and they've never really done 'cutesy' concepts a la Boyfriend anyway. They debuted with a pretty mature R&B sound and not the typical bubblegum pop. Yeah, they used to wear those colorful pastel clothes and stuff but what can you expect if they were 14~18 y/o kids? You can see that now with BTS and GOT7. I prefer young people dressing and behaving cute and youthful than doing sexy concepts and other adult stuff like that new kid on U-Kiss. Plus, they're still fairly young tbh. Most of SNSD are 89ers (so older than SHINee) and they had IGAB in 2013, Orange Caramel do overly cutesy stuff too and they're in their 20s, A-Pink are mostly in their 20s too, etc etc...Heck, even Eunhyuk&Donghae do youthful concepts in Japan and they're in their late 20s.
Sorry for the rant. I'm just kind of sick of the whole: "you're too old for ____". It's like for some people you have to act like a grandma/grandpa once you're not a teenager anymore.
it won't be selling for very much longer it's Japan tho. They love that kind of stuff. And at least this is not as sugary and cringy worthy as BMU. As long they don't do anything like that again I'm cool.
all this glitter for me??? now my post is complete (http://s1085.photobucket.com/user/sologifs100/media/tumblr_mvh8u7k7Kc1rs42ppo1_250_zps1cd860e2.gif.html)
cuteness overload! xDD I love the ending and "to be continued" more cuteness and free style lol I like that they have the opportunity to have a happy time recording in different places not just the boxes from sm
I liked the "to be continued" thing tbh. Unpopular opinion but I wouldn't mind another cute video if it's more similar to this one and not to BMU. I still want a dark concept for their Korean comeback tho.
yeah I'm ok with the cute concept ♥ these type of mvs are so random and I enjoy that, for a Korean comeback I would like a ballad or something like that so they can show their talent like in 1000 years by your side but I don't think that will happen :/
