Onew Underwent Throat Surgery

SM Entertainment has announced to the local media that SHINee member Onew recently underwent surgery for removal of vocal polyps and vocal fold mucosa reconstruction on June 3 and is currently recovering. He was released from the hospital and is resting at home. SM Entertainment elaborated, “There is no effect on his daily life, and he is receiving treatment as an outpatient.”

Due to this surgery and recovery, Onew was unable to join the rest of the SHINee member when they left for Brazil on June 5 to film for KBS’ “Music Bank,” as well as being unable to join the musical “Singin’ in the Rain” as originally planned.

i think it depends, tbh. i had a friend who had polyps/nodule surgery and she said that it hurt sometimes but other times it was virtually unnoticeable for her. but she wasn't a singer, so i can't speak for that. i know i've read somewhere though that, with singers, it usually hurts more WHEN they sing (which, thankfully, onew hasn't really been doing much singing in front of a camera/crowd minus at swiii stuff) but they can go by day to day life not being bothered. but, once again, it prob depends on the person/case.

Glad he got the medical attention he needed. Not surprised he only had his surgery recently considering their schedule are always planned in advanced and it can be difficult to reschedule. Hopefully it won't affect his voice at all (since we dk where the polyps are) and that he recovers well :)

Vocal polyps are pretty common among singers afaik. Hopefully he'll be fine as long as he's given enough time to rest his voice after the surgery.

Well that answers why he wasn't in Singing in the Rain after all. I'm glad the surgery went well and hope he recovers soon. Apparently, polyps are caused by over-using your voice without enough breaks so take note, SM, and don't push your idols so hard!
