Stills of actor Cha Seung Won cross-dressing for his latest movie “High Heel” has been released.

In the movie, Cha Seung Won will appear as Ji Wook, a man who wants to become a woman. Is is the story of police detective Ji Wook, who has “everything a man would want” but longs to be a woman.

In the still released on May 28, a silhouette of Cha Seung Won with earrings and a clutch can be seen. In another still shot released, he is seen getting his makeup done.

Previously, director Jang Jin has said, “in order to portray Ji Wook’s torment with his inner femininity, we needed a very masculine and charismatic male actor. That led us to Cha Seung Won.”

“High Heel” will open on June 4.




Synopsis: Ji-wook is a cold-blooded detective who would brutally assault and stop at nothing to catch criminals. However, despite his perfectly masculine appearance, Ji-wook struggles with a secret desire to be a woman. At last, Ji-wook decides to get a sex change. However, a gang Ji-wook had brutally arrested by force plots revenge against him. While Ji-wook resigns and secretly dreams of transforming into a real woman, people close to him get caught up in a conspiracy and killed. When the one person he must protect, ‘Jang-mi’, also falls in danger, Ji-wook faces a crossroads in making his choice. (hancinema)

idk what to think tbh. this is right up my ally with all the gunplay and fighting to protect/save someone and hot male lead in a suit. i'm concerned and confused at the treatment cha seung won's character will be given as a trans individual, but we'll see??? i have so many thoughts, but an op note is not the right platform for that, lol....

I think it's progress...it has yet to be seen how it will be handled but it does look like they might explore the struggle of someone wanting a sex change. To me, at least, it doesn't seem like a gimmick. Also could Jang Mi be Ji Wook? That's what it sounds like to me. It's nice that they are willing to tell other stories and Jang Jin is a great director as well!

In a drama Saving Mrs. Go Bong Shil, I believe they had a trans character who is also a male-to-female transgender in real life (Choi Han Bit). I never saw the drama, though. And Choi Han Bit hasn't been in any dramas since then ): She was in The Princess' Man as well, but I doubt anyone is gonna go out of their way to re-watch that now.

the movie like a virgin is about a young guy who goes into korean wrestling to earn money for the surgery to change genders. it is a comedy film but still thought they handled it fairly well

This seems like something positive...but I'm worried. I cannot remember how that Na Young movie where she was trans and her son came to find her was handled.

Curious the trailer has no hint of his struggle with gender identity. Then again maybe they thought it would put the audience off and decided to let the action be the draw. Also wonder what kind of research CSW did for this role. We'll see!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Which begs the question, how much have they diluted it for the Korean public? So as to not "offend their delicate sensibilities". And if they have kept it pretty real, would it get a lot of backlash? I really wanna see this movie now OAO

The posters are giving me some real Drive vibe *O* Already got Tick of the Clock going in my head XD
The story sounds really good, that is if it's handled well...Watching the trailers, I liked the vibe of the first one but the second/alt one just seemed like your run-of-the-mill action movie trailer. The protagonist did look like a troubled kinda guy but maybe it's just coz the second didn't have any eng subs, the meaning was kinda lost. Both trailers didn't really seem to show very much about his actual struggles (again it might have in the 2nd but speaking just visually) so I hope they don't just throw him wanting to be a woman into the movie plot as second thought/gimmick.

Koreans are not that delicate... Maybe some people would think so watching kdramas all day that are targeted for teenagers. Considering Cha seung won's involvement it will probably be decent at least

I admire Cha Seung Won as an actor and I have confidence that he will treat this character with respect.
