Zhang Liyin performs for Anhui TV's Mad for Music, whose sound engineer completely fucked up her performance video because some of her fans recorded her live in the studio, and that version sounds a whole lot better. Live performance recording version is embedded under the cut!

Liyin has improved so much since 2006. An artistic director who works for an entertainment company in Shanghai later commented on Weibo that Liyin has a A4-F5 singing range, which sounds really impressive!

Date: 2014-08-05 08:31 pm (UTC)When the guy says Liyin has a range of A4-F5 that makes no sense, as it gives her a range of six notes. No one has a range of six notes (ok i'm pretty sure my ex did but he was like, the worst singer I had ever encountered in my life, he is an outlier and should not be counted lol)
A4 is the A five notes above middle C (aka slap bang in the middle of any average mezzo-soprano's range). Middle C - C4 - is in some ways known as middle C because it's one of those notes that could acceptably be written in any choral part, even amateur, from bass to soprano, and also because even in early keyboards with only a few octaves in range it was still pretty central to the instrument's range. F5 is five notes above A4, and probably the highest any really well-trained pop singer would ever try to belt (you'd attempt G5 if you were christina aguilera, but otherwise probably not. Trust me, I've tried).
There are /some/ systems that shift the numbers up and down a bit but even then the range is less than an octave, and definitely not representative of her actual range (now that I've heard her sing, lol). If she's a mezzo, it's more likely she has a range of A3-F5, not A4. Perhaps it was a misprint.
this post is as long as my last comment lol i'm so sorry for clogging your inbox but i figured i'd explain while i could
