“Do you see the oppas?” … The most sad concert in the world

The use of performances from the enthusiastic idol group has eventually been replaced. This is a sad story about a female student who passed away due to the Sewol tragedy. The soul may have become ‘a thousand winds’ and lingered around the concert hall.

A female student from Danwon High School, Ms.Yoo, liked a 7 membered hip hop group. She who would eagerly take part in fan club activities, was planning to go to the concert that she had wanted to go to so much after a school trip.

[Interview with Ms.Yoo’s father]

“After coming back from the school trip, my daughter had said that there was a concert on her birthday so I had promised to let her go…”

However, Ms.Yoo who left to travel on Sewol for her school trip, returned as a cold lifeless body. The unfortunate news was also delivered to the idol group members.

The member whom Ms.Yoo liked the most came to find the funeral with a personally written letter in hand.

[Interview with Ms.Yoo’s father]

"He sat there for an hour and a half, talking and crying before he left. He said that he had lost a precious fan.. he really cried a lot of tears before he left.”

Then, in the past weekend, the concert which was held back due to the Sewol tragedy was opened.
Ms.Yoo’s parents who were specially invited, embraced a small photo in their arms as they watched the concert of the boys that she liked.

[Interview with Ms.Yoo’s father]

"Still.. It felt like the photo of our daughter had changed into one of her smiling…”

It usually may have been an excitingly fun dance concert, however that day was one of the most sad concerts in the world.

T/N: If you go on the source and watch the video, you can tell that the group is BLOCK B.

Zico’s Extra Verse in “I’m Still Fly”- 2014 Blockbuster Concert

Inside this unending accident
Without a shield, I endured with my bare body
A fancy award-winning career, That’s nothing
You all are my medals and trophies that I’ve gained in these 3 years
Though my shoulders are heavy
I can never let go of this burden
Each person has their own cross to bear
My one rest that makes my heart race is always taboo
PS. Hyewon, I pray that you will hear this song

끊이지 않던 사건사고 속
난 방패막이 없이 맨몸으로 버텼어
화려한 수상 경력 That’s nothing

Hyewon is the name of the BBC that died in the Sewol Ferry Tragedy.

Full Performance

Obs: After fans contacted the company and explained what the n-word meant, Zico edited "I'm Still Fly" and replaced the n-word with "baby".

Sometimes Zico makes it really hard for me

That was nice of him to do.

Good on him for understanding and removing that word in the song, too. I'm glad fans spoke out about it and the company told him. I never knew about the song & was reading comments on youtube and those were the worst (lots of the type of fangirls I want to stay away from), so I now I have to cleanse my brain and go hug my cat, lol. Why do I do this to myself?

Claps for Zico, though. Only before he was carrying on with his members during interviews, it's nice to see him maturing. I'm gonna assume the others are doing so as well.

I appreciate that he respected his fans enough to learn from them and further LISTEN to them by editing out the word. It's a start.

Very nice of him. I'm glad he was genuinely touched, and that he reached out to the family. I'm also glad his fans actually corrected him, and that he actually listened. First Rapmon, now Zico. Keep it going boys.

He removed it from songs he used it in after people expressed the negative meanings.

No, but he tried to explain his "black english" as slang instead of a language only black people speak. This was on a radio show where K.Will asked him to specifically do that. He didn't bring it up himself.

RM: Rather than saying it's a specialty, it's because I watch alot of videos of rappers, and there's a large majority who are black, so my accent started to sound like a black person.
Like when I speak english, it became a specialty that's not really a specialty.

KW: I see, then is there a difference between a black person speaking english and a white person speaking english?

RM: -laughs- no one ever asked me that before.

KW: Oh really?

RM: Rather than thinking there's a difference, the rappers- Rather than labeling it "Black English", there are alot of rappers who are black, and when they talk in English their speech is a little different. Like, they carry this groove when they talk.

KW: Oh then can you show us a bit in a very cool way?

I'm just a girl that easily cried for no reason. Even reading an article with "crying" in the sentence, I might cry my heart out OTL but this, this really touched my heart. I was there with Block B since debut, and I'm getting the motherly feeling seeing how much Zico grew up after so many incidents happened on Block B. Good job, Zico! Much respect

I teared up reading his extra verse. I've had my issues with Zico before but this was really sweet. I'm glad to hear he's stopped using the n-word too, good on the fans who educated him.

because black people are cool/edgy/dangerous and if you want to be cool you blindly copy black people or at least that is how it works in the states

Yeah, I guess he was just mimicking rappers he listens to. Which is whack, but ugggh, at least he seems to be learning/willing to and change. Slow progress, lol. *sigh*

That is honestly the most heartbreaking thing ever, I'm proud of Block B for having so much compassion. Honestly I felt like tearing up when I read how much the member cried and said how they'd lost a valuable fan. The Sewol incident has really struck a nerve with me :(

Also glad that Zico has stopped using the n-word and fans were proactive enough to directly tell him the problems about using that term instead of complaining and letting it slide until he said it again :)

"instead of complaining and letting it slide until he said it again" so you are blaming fans for not having direct access to idols to express their grievances?

Date: 2014-05-25 06:52 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] 21banged.livejournal.com
No that was not what I meant at all. When I said "instead of complaining and letting it slide until he said it again" I was referring to fans who see something that is wrong and then complain about it over twitter but don't try and contact the idols to let them know. I'm talking about my own fandom really, when blackjacks talked about Dara wearing the bindi and such, but didn't try and correct Dara by mentioning her in their twitter.

Not sure if that made any sense but long story short, I have nothing against fans who want to complain about issues they have with their artists, however SNS has provided a means for idols and fans to become closer, and I'm glad fans are making use of it in teaching idols what is culturally appropriate instead of having to deal with the same problems occurring over and over

Reminds me how my Korean ex was going to meet my closest friend (black) and asked how he was supposed to call him. He wanted to use an equivalent of "hyung" in English and thought that the n-word was of equal meaning, just like a "hyung" that you use to call black people. Thought it was interesting.

I never thought this day would come. This deserves it's own post.

And that's one of the sweetest things I've seen an idol do for the Sewol incident. I doubt Block B has the kind of money to match other celebrities' donation. It's nice to see them do what they can.

Aw. I thought it was nice enough when he quietly attended the girl's funeral a few weeks ago (I don't think it was reported anywhere except on Block B fansites) but this was really lovely. He's such a sweet kid.
