T-ara’s Jiyeon, who recently made her debut with her first solo single “Never Ever,” appeared on the May 20 episode of Mnet’s “4 Things Show: Outrageous Interview.”

Jiyeon also had a psychological test during the program, where she vocalized her serious stresses and concerns. The psychologist said, “Right now, in your current state, you need professional help. You’re having a really hard time right now. It’s important that you find a place you can go to recharge, and good people and relationships.” At this, Jiyeon started to shed tears. “At some point along the way, I feel like I’ve lost myself. There’s more to me than what people may necessarily think, but I wonder if I should give up. I feel like I’ve lost myself.

Now, when I think of my image with T-ara, I feel like that is me. I don’t even know myself anymore. At a certain point, I’ve become afraid of people’s gazes.

At the same time, Jiyeon said, “I don’t think it’s unfair [that some people don't look at me positively]. Because those opinions were formed from things that I’ve done, it’s on me.

In related news, Jiyeon, the youngest member of T-ara, just made her first official solo debut with “Never Ever.”

Poor girl. It has been hard for what will all the shit she's received for her webcam scandal and the whole T-Ara thing.
Attending counselling should be as mandatory for an idol as dance practice. These people are under ridiculous amounts of stress and pressure and there should be someone they can turn to for help in this. Cube Ent has a psychologist on staff for idols, other companies should follow suit. Or are we waiting for them to all form Milk Clubs ala SM idols

Yeah, I imagine a lot of idols having similar feelings. Especially with how young some of them start like Jiyeon. It really should be mandatory. I hope with this being public CCM will make her/ the other members of T-ARA/other idols in CCM talk to someone.

So sad!! Netizens are literally after her like a witch hunt! As if they never made any mistakes!! They keep reminding her of the mistakes she's made which is holding her back!!!
People need to relax!!! The only difference between T-ara and other idol groups is that T-ara exposed their dirty laundry!!

Jeez, it's so annoying... I'm gonna start stanning her from now on just for the fact that what she said is genuinely honest and none of that idol memorised script bull shit!

i watched this show and it made me tear up at this segment. i hope that she takes the advice to heart, talking to a professional about her problems might be a big help. i feel that it's something all idols should do but especially so with this group.

the rest of this show however was so cute, especially when spica's jiwon came out to play with her and eunjung. i'm glad the original members are still close friends even after 5 years

I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with conducting psychological test on TV and airing this kind of things. Shouldn't it be private?
That being said, I agree with people saying Idols need to have counselling.
Their conditions are not always the best, there is known to be bulling, the stress and expectations, they are overworked, all the time in the public eye and they are always requested to be in top condition and smiling.
Its not like they finish their job and go back home, their job is a 24/7 job. What about their social network? family and friends outside the company?
And who knows what goes behind that we don't see.

korean entertainment companies do everything for press.. your idol is underweight? you idol should see seek professional help? so what, let them cry on TV for help so they get some press.

her and the rest of t-ara
i can't imagine what they're going through between kks breathing down their necks and being treated like criminals by the general public

also i always thought something was off about jiyeon she has always rubbed me the wrong way. it's probably why i was so quick to believe the bully rumors

damn! do we really need to know about this kind of private issues? it's ok when it's little personnality games but a real psychological test? was it necessary for this psychologist to say the result on tv?

so i'm not sure if this (+ her interviews where she expresses her dislike for the song concept) is all made up by CCM so she gets (positive) press or if this is really her cry for help. she has said so many times that she does not like the sexy concept and that she's basically forced to do it.

Date: 2014-05-21 09:53 pm (UTC)

honestly, she won't get possitive press for this, netizens have none of her.

but ccm does make everything somethting to use pr wise.

Out of all the T-ara members her image makes her seem like she has the strongest personality but I think she really seems like a kid still. I guess her saying she feels like her development stopped since she started working at such a young age has something to do with it. I'm not sure if it's because of her looks or what, but even before the scandals people said they didn't like her because she "looks bitchy". I couldn't say how many times I read "i knew it! she always looked like a bitch" back then. I know it comes with the territory as a celebrity but everyone has their breaking point especially when it's as harsh and relentless as it is in this situation. I always forget how young she was when T-ara debuted but then i come across an old picture and it hits me

Saying someone "looks like a bitch" is one of the weirdest reasons for not liking someone. I wish people would just say they don't like someone, because the whole "she looks like a bitch" thing doesn't even make sense.

I think most people could benefit from some professional help every now and then but considering everything that's happened, the stress she's under and the hostility and insults hurled at her on a regular basis, I'd say definitely.

I have been following these promos next to nothing but even I know that this is already the second TV show where she's talked about these things frankly and raw, in tears, blaming herself and all-around wallowing in it all. Is it her company's plan to have this round of promotions be some sort of purgatory for her? Like if she lowers herself enough and looks miserable enough, people will finally sympathize?

Having psychological tests on camera, having random citizens telling the camera that they don't like her and then playing it back to her just for a reaction? The company doesn't need to subject her to this in order to simply promote her music. Or doesn't have to unless they wanted to.

I feel uncomfortable to say the least.

My doctor says if you're going to get yearly check-ups for your dental and physical health, you should damn well be doing the same for your mental health too. I agree with her.

as much as ppl want to say it's largely the way netizens targeted her, i think CCM is responsible for at least half of her stress/problems. KKS don't seem to treat them with decency.

Do people really think going to a counselor helps? I have gone to visit several psychologists with varying issues and in different times of my life and they were all..... well useless. I feel like counseling is for when you are going to do something extreme or something, otherwise your friends and family most definitely know you better. The psychologists I met either didn't understand my problems at all or didn't really help in solving them. I don't know, what's the point of talking to a stranger that can't solve (or improve) your problems?

I'm sorry you haven't had good experiences. Psychologists and psychiatrists are different. Have you tried a psychiatrist? They have more training and might be able to understand you better. It takes a lot of work to find the right person either way and there's a lot of bullshit you gotta go through before you truly start treatment (e.g. labs and EKG to see if there is something underlying the way you feel, etc). It's definitely difficult. But a psychiatrist can offer some different perspectives, meds if you need them or at the very least just become a consistent outlet.

meh... I feel bad that she's in a very stressful environment but I'm still ambivalent on my feelings about her.
I do agree that netizens are unnecessarily harsh, not on her faults but just personal attacks... not just on jiyeon but on anyone in general. a lot of people these days have a warped sense of justice and a lot of anger in their system and seems to think that taking it out on celebrities make them somehow a better person, when it really makes me worse.

I don't know if this is at all a possible outcome, but maybe if someone sees this and thinks, "wow, I'm having a hard time too, and if an idol can need help, maybe it's ok if I seek some too" then maybe it's a good thing.

The only thing I like about this is that they are putting mental health help out there in Korea since it is a huge problem, but they seriously did not have to use her (or anybody for that matter) to do that, and especially not in that way.
