Omona's favorite girl groups become cheerleaders for MBC Idol Futsal Championship

As the 2014 Brazil Word Cup is getting closer, MBC will hold “Idol Futsal Championship” in order to celebrate the world cup. Not only that, several girl groups also scouted to be the cheerleading team. AOA, Ladies Code, 9Muses, Jewelry, Miss A’s Jia and Min, Sunmi, Sistar’s Soyu, Secret, Hello Venus, After School, Bestie, Dal Shabet, and TINT are the name who will be joining the cheerleader team.

Idols such as BEAST and EXO are considered to be the highest anticipated group which fans want to see in this futsal competition.

I'm confused, the upcoming world cup is for men's soccer, and everyone is upset that the male idols will be playing soccer and the women cheerleading? I could understand if they were celebrating the women's world cup which is next year and they made the men play.

Granted I'm all about the fact that Korea is sexist I get that, totally no doubt, but not everything needs to be a sexist issue. This is legitimately celebrating the men's world cup, it would make less sense to have the girls compete here honestly. It doesn't make sense for them to be cheerleaders, but at least they get to participate in some manner.

It comes off like a lot of people complaining don't feel female idols ever get to do anything sports related, but they are always at the idol Olympics, and Bora and Sohyun are well respected in particular for their athletic prowess. I get that there's sexism in Korea, but this is a moment where the nit picking doesn't make sense. Wait till next year, if they do it again, get your pitchforks and save me one cause I'll be right there.

Oh I love watching competitive cheerleading but we all know it's not going to be like that. Probably for the best though. That stuff is bloody hazardous to your health.

Definitely not gonna tune in to watch a bunch of amateurs kick a ball around. These idol events always remind me of sport days at school. Just... lame.

Gross. There's no cheerleading in football. But there is the Women's World Cup. And it's better than the men's because it's not a collection of egos faking fouls but actual athletes competing. Let the women play!

First time I'm hearing about this futsal championship and I seem to be pretty lonely here in actually looking forward to it but WHY did they have to make the girls cheerleaders? Futsal doesn't have cheerleaders so having them do that only seems like a way for the organisers to get more ppl to watch by having them act as fancy decorations to the boys...
