Soompi releases 'K-Pop Idol Group Infographic 2014 Edition'

It has been more than two years since the first K-Pop Idol Group Infographic. Instead of continuing to name all the groups that have made their debut, this time we focus on the top 25 boy groups and top 25 girl groups.

All information used features the members from within these 50 groups and was finalized on May 1, 2014.





With so many groups out there, it definitely takes a lot of work to break into the top 25, especially if the group isn’t from a huge company.

Male groups seem to be more stable as there were only six members that left their respective groups, compared to 29 female girl group members that have left their respective groups.

In calculating the “songs released per year in Korea” to determine the most and least active groups, OST tracks, CF songs, and sub unit/solo promotions were NOT counted. B.A.P has been an very active group since their debut, releasing many songs every year. While it doesn’t seem like it, 2NE1 is the second most active since they release multiple title tracks for each comeback.

2011 and 2012 were slow years for JYP
2013 was better, and 2014 will be the best. 3 debuts, 2 comebacks for 2PM, and 1 for all other arists.

And that when I first started really getting into k-pop, Taemin and Dongho were the youngest. Now they're practically in the median age. I'm getting old. LOL

When i got into kpop soshi hasnt even debuted yet. The youngest in idol world was minhwan. My bias was 4 years older and i was like oppa is 19!!! Which is ancient for a 15 year old. :/
And now i dread looking at profiles of rookie groups.

Also lol at 2ne1 being 2nd on the most active list when their fans complain a lot about them being stuck in the YG dungeon. They release multiple singles at a time so i guess that's why.

Since 2NE1 releases multiple singles in large quantities, even without albums, I guess their active list placement does make sense. Does anyone else do that these days besides Big Bang?

Yep Troublemaker's got 14 wins, but that is counting the little ones like Show Champion and Music on Top. If you only look at MB, MC and Inki they've still got 5 though (4 for Now, one for Troublemaker).

I wonder what the criteria for the ranking is? sales? fan clubs?

There are a few groups there I don't really recognize (as in, I have seen the names before, but never in a way that distinguished them as other than nugus with hype -- Ladies Code and FIESTAR and many boy bands starting with B -- while groups I thought were higher profile aren't (15&, Jewelry (though their 2013 single was a deserved flop), GLAM, Wonder Boyz).


Cube is kinda pushing to make the top 3 a top 4, aren't they...

Probably a combination of group age, sales, and familiarity though I personally don't know why they included some of the rookie groups like esp Got7 since they've been debuted for like, 5 minutes


And I'm glad to see Cube up there, 4minute and Beast are quite the heavy hitters when it comes to sales and popularity and now that Cube's got apink making headway, I'm sure they could become a 'Big 4'
