snl-korea

Back in its fifth season, tvN’s “SNL Korea” has lost some of its more explicit content and political satire. With this, along with a cast and format change, the show has broadened the scope of its audience and recorded its highest viewer ratings yet.

The new fifth season of “SNL Korea,” which started in January, has shifted from 19+ content to 15+ content, and moved the air time up by about an hour, from 11pm (KST) to 9:50pm (KST). Moreover, getting rid of their ‘weekly update’ corner, they’ve added a ‘people update’ talk-show- like segment for cast member Yoo Hee Yeol. Following these changes, reception of the show has improved, and the show has put down a record viewer rating of 2.2%. However, while the show has a better reception overall, there are still those who protest the change in content.

Soompiers, did you prefer the old 19+ SNL, or do you like the new 15+ SNL?

I don't know if he was a regular or what but he was on at least a few times. I remember him poking fun at the Sulli/Choiza scandal lol

I haven't been able to watch a lot of episodes, but from the few I've seen, changing the show to 15+ is disappointing.

I felt like the show was supposed to be a platform for "more adult" comedy. While the rest of Korean television is Cartoon Network, SNL was supposed to be Adult Swim.

Is lowering the age rating really the best solution? =\

i don't watch korea's ver of SNL but the show comes on late night so i expect a more adult audience would be watching. maybe it just proves korea doesn't seem to enjoy really adult or satirical humor more than catering to a younger audience? i mean, how many korean tv shows are truly adult in nature, both live action AND cartoon, within any one given season?
hell, in america, it's so commonplace on cable and regular tv that i don't even bat an eye at it anymore.

edit- i didn't see the change in time the first time. that's just wrong

eh its pretty corny either way so the only time i watched it was when someone i liked was guesting and i will say that sort of takes away the fun like.. i can see 4minute being funny wherever but the joy of them being on snl was like jihyun getting nailed by jay park, you know????
like its never going to be actually funny but at least when it was '''raunchy''''' (not even really) it had minimal appeal to me

Obviously viewer rating would rise 'cause earlier time slot regardless the quality of the show.

Ratings never equate to quality or substance of a show. In America*, Conan O'Brien was a great example of that fail system. But censorship the world over seems to be regressing year by year anyway.
