let's talk about how this song samples a child reciting the quran in it (https://twitter.com/JojTOP/status/441950076085473280) and the fact that 2ne1 is gonna have a stop in Malaysia (a pre-dominantly Muslim country) for this world tour.
I don't really hear it because I have bad ears. I'm confused by some Muslim fans who say it's not from the Quran, but idk if they're being delusional. I think the damage is done though with the death threats she's getting now, so even if there's an apology from YG it's whatever. I heard the sample on the first listen, but ofc I didn't understand and now it's blowing up.
There are some parts of this perf that make me laugh, but this band version is definitely better than the original song. Otherwise it was pretty awesome.
The lyrics to MTBD are still hella stupid and sound like they were made by a middle schooler in the middle of a rap battle.
er the bands instruments didnt go well with mtbd imo. the instrumental after the first time she says "menboong" makes me feel so YASS TWERK TWERK but the drums in this killed it :( and wtf is that dance lol like a monkey jumping around nagl and i prefer the original version of tbf (but im in the small group that liked that song so)
she know's what she's doing and that's all there is to it. she helped write the song. she does a prayer motion at that exact moment. if you're defending her you're wrong. if you think it was okay you're wrong.
they're wrong for using parts of the Quran and they deserve to get dragged for this. the death threats are disgusting but can fellow 2NE1 stans sit down with the "if you're Muslim you shouldn't be listening to music anyway/you didn't notice that part the first time you listened to the song so it means it's not there/etc" drivel?
the best was this guy http://bomblast.tumblr.com/post/78868489924/that-anon-sending-the-link-is-going-around-to-a-lot-of josh fro mthe uk gogoles quran and became an expert.
the people giving death threats, i want to slap them upside the head.its hard for sane muslims to make their points be heard when those idiots are out
I was trying to look for an e-mail address so people with (well-worded/non-threatening) complaints could contact them but I couldn't for the life of me. All I can say is that you should definitely shoot them a message over Facebook/tweet and/or message the official YG twitter or an English speaking YG family member who you think may relay the message. The sudden surge of messages is bound to get attention. But don't attack and be polite (even if you are understandably upset)! I also think it would be good to send a message more than once but not all at once.
Even better if someone could translate your complaint for you. Maybe you can push to get the song edited and re-released + an apology. It's worth a shot!
YGLadies def has contacts. My friend met Tanzania(?? bjs should know who this is) at one of the YG fam concerts in 2010 and she was going around saying that she had gone backstage and met the girls and blah blah. If BJ's really care, they would make an effort to contact YG cuz there is always at least one major member in a kpop fandom that does.
lol Sometimes she reminds me of my girlfriends that use their hair to dance to make up for loss of motions/skill. She has a lot of energy and presence on stage but she yelled too much on this one for me and it downplays what she can do. I'd like to see her do a stage where's she's sitting/standing and really bringing her verses. I think she moves so much to bring the hype she looses her breath. At the concert I'm sure it's a lot more fun bc it's in the moment and not viewed on a comp screen. She looked beautiful though.
However I think the criticism is deserved imo and people need to stop with the BUT IF THIS WAS ANYONE BUT CL/YG~~~. People at YG or any other agency over at SK aren't raging idiots incapable of learning of other cultures, religions and the people that color those things. Just because you can't relate doesn't mean you need to go out of your way to tell someone they're wrong or too sensitive to feel the way they feel. For some POC, abuse of things they believe in or aspects of their culture being temporarily obtained for show can be annoying or even offensive at times. I learned myself in this post so there's no reason why folks over there can't sit down and contemplate the things they're doing to pass for entertainment for currency. Ignorance is insanely contagious and it wouldn't be nice for their ignorance to spread to their fanbase. These pedestals are too high.
*Though placing the blame SOLELY on CL or/and the death threats are really nagl
I feel kind of bad because overall I didn't like the MTBD performance. Her outfit is cute but too much hairography for me. As far as the Muslim aspect of the song: I understand the offense, and hope they are wise in the decision for which tour cities to perform the song and which to simply skip. I know we can't always make EVERYONE happy (because someone somewhere seems to be offended my something) but this seems to be a bit deeper. Death threats are inappropriate, but some research and empathy as to why many feel like this way is needed.
If it is true that it is sampled from Islamic text then whoever chose to fo it is completely ignorant and insensitive but it's not a beautiful sight! seeing righteous online commentators joins hands with religious male chauvinists.. one condemning her the other sending her death threats,
