For the first time as all nine members, Girls' Generation earns a spot on the Billboard 200 with its new EP, "Mr. Mr." The all-Korean set hits No. 110, selling just over 3,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The six-track record surpasses the previously highest-charting K-pop album on the Billboard 200. The "Twinkle" EP released by Girls' Generation - TTS, a splinter trio featuring members Tae Yeon, Tiffany and Seohyun, hit No. 126 in 2012. With 3,000 copies sold, the sub unit had held the title for highest-charting K-pop album until this week.
The chart success is not only triumph for U.S. K-pop fans, but also marks big sales despite an atypical rollout. When the set hit online retailers on Feb. 24, no music from the EP had been revealed barring a 40-second teaser dropped two weeks earlier. The glossy music video for lead single "Mr.Mr." (above) followed on Feb. 28. It's earned 6.7 million global views to date.
Elsewhere on Billboard's charts, the ninesome send all of the EP's tracks to this week's K-Pop Hot 100. "Mr.Mr." ranks the highest (at No. 5) along with "Goodbye" (No. 23), "Wait a Minute" (No. 43), "Back Hug" (No. 62), "Europa" (No. 64) and "Soul" (No. 83) all bowing. Girls' Generation have two No. 1s on the chart to date with 2013's "I Got a Boy" and 2011's "The Boys."
"Mr. Mr." also hits No. 4 on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart. All charts will be refreshed Thursday morning on Billboard.com.
