Vic's done a drama or two, right? She can definitely be supported more, but she's been doing at least a little, so...they might have a building block there.

well i think sm are scaling back on japan bc there isn't that much money to be made there anymore (apart from with tvxq). yeah, it is them being lazy, but they don't want to put much effort into promotion when they know they can't make easy money anymore like they could in 2011, when hallyu was pretty huge in japan. now it's basically dead.

lbr, snsd are still the biggest girl group in japan but their sales have definitely dropped. i think their releases there now are just to fill set lists for concert tours, bc that's where the big money is. sm aren't interested in a long term japanese career for soshi, never have been imo. they just want to make the most money by doing as little as possible. hence their japanese debut.

i think sm are doing what they can in china but they don't really have many connections there. it'll take time to conquer the market and they know this. but yeah, they do suck at promotion. i don't promote the talent they have. they could be doing so much more with victoria (she has huge potential in china, if only sm would realise it) and zhang li yin.

i'm curious if SM will be lazy and arrogant about really forging ahead in China. when they first started with Japan, they let DBSK and BoA actually immerse themselves in the language and culture to really promote well. lately they choose to release something, tour and wait for pockets to fill. BoA's US debut was the first sign of how arrogant SM had got. that was a solid album. but she did very little to promote it and was pulled back when she wasn't an "overnight" sensation.

in China they do have a little bit of a headway with SJM and Exo/ExoM. SJM is well loved in Taiwan and Hong Kong at least. Siwon, Zhoumi and Donghae have explored acting in China,Taiwan and Hong Kong. Exo M market hasn't been fully tested to its full potential yet. and i expect that to be a complete explosion if the album is solid. it does make me wonder if SM will do a full marketing bit or be lazy about it. The first taste for my interest will be to see how they push SJM now. will they finally get an actual tour in the region?

I remember reading an article in exochoco about some industry insiders from china not really appreciating how exo managers act and how it seems they arent willing to adapt to that market but instead are trying to run the show with their practices brought from korea. :/

If that's how they plan to go about future china promos then eeeeeep.

never saw the point of the sm's hallyu into japan tbh, all they did was try to debut one artist after another when the wave was at its peak in japan and then only giving concert tours. you can't expect to maintain popularity in japan that way. which is why BoA and DBSK are still pretty relevant in the public but the rest have their own fanbase which isn't really expanding.

Lol I hope SM will actually do China properly like they did with DBSK in Japan but knowing SM...

Anyway, they'll make a lot of money as long as they exploit the Luhan thirst. Give the guy lots of solo deals and watch the money pour in tbh.

Ugh and my personal bias is gonna show here but I'm just super happy that Zhang Li Yin could be included in some way.

It will be interesting if they actually try to push Luhan... He seems like he doesn't enjoy being in solely in the spotlight. His preference seems to be when the spotlight/focus is diffused across a few members at a time.

i'm been looking forward to more chinese activities tbh. but man, sm is down to make quick money, which sucks for the longevity of their talents as artists. they worked boa/tvxq really well in japan. i hope we see the same in china? but that market is HUGE. oh boy. looking forward to this though! yaaaay for more exo and fx!

I think Chen has improved so much and he's not shy to speak in Chinese which is great because most of the stuff he ends up saying in Chinese is endearing.

Xiumin, on the other hand, seems to sort of understand the gist of the conversation but he's either too shy or don't feel like speaking in Chinese.

Seeing how saturated the Japanese market nowadays (at least for the Kpop acts), that's a logical move. Unfortunately, like a lot of you guys have said, will SM adapt to the market or not? I live in Hong Kong at the moment, and Kpop is pretty famous for young adults, but not much for the adult (30+). There are lot of Hong Kong/China/Taiwa- established artists/groups already and they have to compete with that.
So yeah..good luck

i was hoping liyin would ditch sm

i can't see this working out too well unless they put real effort into it like they did with dbsk and boa in japan.

the level of activity definitely has a part to play too.

jumping into the chinese market is probably easier since it's just a matter of 1 successful act and the rest can be a packaged deal. at least that's what SM is doing and the fact that China eats it up.

I'm all for whatever that will results in more chinese activities for exo.

If the reports going around are true then it should mean Exo's showtime in China, another appearance on Happy Camp, around 20 concerts in China this year. Just throw in some Chinese cf deals and some solo activities for M members then I'm all set.

Just admit it SM, you're too lazy to do ACTUAL work in Japan anymore. You just want that easy money. But hey...as long as EXO M gets more screentime on Chinese shows, I'm not complaining!!! ^___^
