[identity profile] shanny-w.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] omonatheydid

Isn't it amazing that with all of the K-pop-related news and opinion sites on the web, none of them include podcasts? As popular and numerous as they are, one based on Korean entertainment would fill a niche on the internet.

Omona member [livejournal.com profile] jesaray has proposed the idea of a K-pop/Hallyu podcast anchored by the members of this community. It does not have to be directly connected to Omona, but we want a program greatly infused with the spirit of the community. We also need people who aren't afraid to be opinionated, critical and silly about a fandom that often takes itself too seriously.

Are you getting interested?

What we're looking for...

On-Air Personalities:
-Four people max
-All views, backgrounds and biases are welcome.

We believe the more diverse the individuals, the more fun and unpredictable the discourse!

Development & Behind the Scenes:
If you're interested in development, programming, and/or have your own experience with podcasts/radio we need you!

Things are still in the development stages, & it's necessary that people are dependable during this process.

Having tech, web and/or social media savvy is a million pluses.

What we're not seeking:
To be blunt everyone involved & Omona as a whole wont have time for anyone who is thirsty to become the next internet celebrity, (in which case wouldn't you want to do your own show?) we need everyone involved to be a team player. This is about putting out the best product possible & having fun!

Content-wise:
We're not always gonna be fluff, fangirling/fanboying over idols: we're also going to be critical and not shy away from social issues. Don't be afraid to voice your opinions and not sugarcoat or handwave topics others may not want to address. Basically the same deal as Omona.

How to apply:
If interested please contact us through koreanpoppodcast@gmail.com & include any sort of resume or links to past works if you've got them. Don't forget to include your username. We look forward to receiving your application :)

Please use this application template when applying.

What position are you applying for?
Do you have any past work experience (or other) you think qualifies you or could benefit this position?
Please share any links to past work if available:
What kind of availability does your usual weekly schedule afford you?

Anything else you'd like to add?

OHHHH this is interesting!

I have a few questions

1) how anonymous would this be? Like, if I was selected to be a host/personality would ppl know anything more about me than my LJ name?

2) How time consuming will this be? And this is for all roles. If your a personality, is this about 1-2 hrs a week kind of gig? Same for the behind the scenes ppl

3) Will this be available on itunes?

ok to offer a little more info:

i'm involved in this project. we're still in the development stages and we need more people to be involved in that area because we're building this thing from the ground up and we wanna do it right. we do correspondence via email and we even did a gchat once.

so that means any questions about technology and logistics, we're still going through it. we've talked about platforms with which to record with especially if the cohosts are going to be in different states or even different countries. as far as content and the format of the show goes, that's something we'll all talk about. nothing is settled yet because yeah, we need more people.

honestly the more people to help the better. i imagine: we'd have 2-3 cohosts (who don't have to be in at the same time but that can be developed too), we'd need some kind of engineer (can also be a co-host but they're in charge of handling the recording, sound, and uploading and no you don't have to be a legit engineer you just need to have some experience), and maybe one more behind the scenes person (let's call this a producer? i think i'm a producer lawl). as you can see this takes some planning so if you're going to do it, we'd like you to not half-ass your involvement.

maybe that sounds like a lot of work but all good things do. lawl i think this would be good to put on a resume even. it shows that you can work in a team, can stick to deadlines and whatnot so yeah!!!

if this sounds like something you want to get into, you should definitely try it.

I listen to podcasts all the time. Occasionally I'll see if there are any good kpop podcasts available and never seem to find anything that is consistent or of decent quality. This is a really good idea. it's a niche that hasn't been filled in a comprehensive way... as far as I know.

The only way I could potentially help is with a website. I run KPOPPY (http://kpoppy.com/). But it's pretty simple. Depending on how much content you want on the page, it might be better to go the route of WordPress or something.

Assuming that we're able to get regular hosts and a stable show, it'd be cool to let listeners record short segments for the 'topic of the week' or month. That kind of thing. And include them in discussions.

Anyway, I hope this can be a thing!

Oh I would love to be a part of this but I want to know about time and stuff because I have university and a part time job. But I've been a fan of kpop since 2005 and literally it's true that there are no good podcasts or frequent ones.

This is an AMAZING opportunity!!! I've even contemplated participating, although I know that I wouldn't have time whatsoever. No, I think I'll stick to listening but I hope a lot of people are really motivated to do this even though it'll probably be quite time-consuming. I'll support you from the sidelines! :)

I'm interested at the moment. I would at least like to put my name in as a potential one-shot host (sorry, that's probably not helpful atm).
I'm moving back to the U.S. next month (in Korea right now), so my time zone doesn't work well now. When I'm back I'll be in the Midwest.
I might actually be moving back to Korea next year, but that's a whole 'nother story. :P Sorry I ramble a bit.

This sounds so amazing. i want to participate!!! But I would definitely half ass it so I won't even attempt it. My life is hectic in the most miserable way up until september. but I completely look forward to hearing it!!!!. I used to have a radio show in high school... ages ago really.... but they are really fun. Really great idea honestly.

Would there be a way for members to suggest topics to talk about? Like an anonymous or not drop box for suggestions?
