I was about to call Taeyeon's version the only thing I've liked to come out of this project so far, but nope- THIS is it. SM been sleepin on Li Yin for way too long tbh.
bless this song. i haven't heard taeyeon's version but even this version is a blessing, filled with so much feelings and emotions and to that zly fan who i talked to back when the chinese version of breath came out-- this is a huuuge step up to her older discography, a ballad that i really like ;;____;; if she keeps on releasing stuff like this i will emerge a believer faster than you can say i told you so *______*
man, i don't know how taeyeon's ver can top the feelings i'd gotten when i heard this version :3

Both her version and Taeyeon's have so much emotion. Taeyeon's version speaks of a romantic relationship and heartache, while ZLY's speaks of being caged. At least that's my interpretation.
Their styles are different, Taeyeon dives pretty powerfully into her deep notes while Liyin swiftly sails through them...if I can use that picture? Both versions are sweet. I tend to not like Taeyeon in ballads that much, because to me the emotions often falls flat, but this time I feel like she really captured what she wanted the song to mean. Zhang Liyin has changed her singing style lately, and this interpretation compared to her older songs, makes me even more emotional. Both are nailed, each in their way of what they want to express. I wouldn't be surprised if the lyrics are slightly different in the languages anyway and that plays a big part in how they interpreted the song /rambles off with her feelings for the song
Lol np. I actually did notice that about Zhang Liyin too; I noticed that compared to her old style, she doesn't use her head tone as frequently. She has improved so much over the years, and I just hope that her career will finally start to flourish with the blessing of this comeback. Whether it's with SME or another company.
PS: I think in the Chinese version, it's "Set me free, let me fly" instead of "let me be" which was why I interpreted Zhang Liyin's version as being less about romance and more about freedom from being caged.
