In what appeared to be a thinly veiled reference to SM Entertainment”s alleged requirement for their artists to get plastic surgery, F.T. Island guitarist and singer Song Seunghyun said he passed on a recording contract with the K-pop label when he was starting out, for fear of losing control over his body.

(The MC brought up that they heard he got cast by SM Entertainment at some point of time)

“It was back in middle school,” Seunghyun said on Tuesday”s episode on the South Korean television program “Beatles Code 3D.”

“I got lost at the fireworks festival when two women approached me, suddenly took a picture, gave me their card, and asked me to audition [for SM Entertainment]. The first person I saw when I went there was [Super Junior singer] Leeteuk. The very next day, Super Junior debuted.”

“But in the end, it didn”t work out,” he added.

“What scared me was the contract, which contained wording that suggested things such as giving up rights to my body.”

“Beatles Code” host and Super Junior singer Shindong couldn”t resist having a little bit of fun.

“What do you make of our company?” he jokingly asked the crowd. “Do we all give up the rights to our bodies?”

Well, that explains why SM artists tend to be the prettiest of the bunch. Gross tbh.

Good for him. I don't know how anyone could have or does sign with SM. That contract is insane for anyone hopeful esp the super talented.

Plastic surgery is a major requirement in SM? Like its pretty much written in the contracts?

The way it's worded sounds really scary to me...

I heard similar things about other major management companies as well.

It's great he was smart enough to sense/interpret and make up his own mind. Spill that tea bb.

ETA: Ppl out here actually saying he made the wrong decision b/c he turned down his chance for an awesome nose job? At the expense of his autonomy?? Really???

Sounds pretty credible. That could include things like forced diets and medical treatments too. Good for him for not getting stars in his eyes and actually reading the fine print.

I saw a better translation somewhere else - SM (and most companies) have rights to the idols' name / image (this is why you see so many lawsuits against plastic surgery clinics or cosmetic companies who use the idols' image without permission)

You made the right choice, Seunghyun bb

I don't think it's explicitly worded, but it's probably implied through big, ambiguous words.

And many other companies also have the same idea.

seeing how all of exo had something done, i guess it is. gotta make use of their dungeon surgeon.
plus it's nothing new in showbiz anyway...

bc it's practically guaranteed success?

all ent companies are just as shady as sm, i don't see how signing with another company instead of them would be any better tbh :/

SM plastic surgeons are amazing. I'd want to be done by them if I ever wanted to get something done. LOL

Chanyeol's nosejob looks so natural though. Whatever the guys may have had done (or not) on them enhanced their looks anyway. Nothing too drastic. They still look pretty much like their old selves, at least.

yikes.

sme being shady as usual, nothing new there. but fuck that sounds creepy as hell.

idk, sooyoung's nose or jessica's fat graft was botched... i would as for miryo's or lee dahee's surgeons numbers tbh, they had so much done but it looks pretty natural (esp miryo).
i always wanted to shave my jaw a little but knowing th death rate and how dangerous it is, i opted for doing face countouring with make up. jaw shaving is so scary. i couldn't stand watching a yt video from someone's surgery, let alone having it done myself...

SM fan?

Define success. Many artist have a different meaning of that. So Success is subjective.
My point is SH at that young age knew he didn't want to sign his body figuratively or literally over to SM. So he had already surpassed and defined his success before he even pursued a career as a musician.

Yeah, Sooyoung's nose is iffy. And CSJH's Sunday! :( I love Changmin's nose job, though. It was really done well.

Jaw surgery is so scary and dangerous. A tiny mistake like hitting a blood vessel can result in you choking to death on your own blood. :( That happened to a Chinese starlet, I think. I remember reading about it. :(

Omfg jaw surgery is THAT freaking dangerous? I'm crying~
I was browsing around korean plastic surgery websites and there were lots of options and i saw 'face contouring' i couldnt read the rest since it was all written in hangul. I wonder if its a milder form of jaw shaving???

Wow, okay, is there some PS masterlist anywhere? Every time I open a post like this I see people talking about more stuff (like nose jobs or fat grafts) that I had no idea about before #_#

Fat Graft???

Date: 2014-02-12 04:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] imienazwisko.livejournal.com
it is... it's done for people with underbite etc, people with okay teeth shouldn't even consider it if they only want to get it to look prettier...

face contouring is a joint word for things like jaw shaving, cheekbone reduction, chin argumentation, fat grafting (im not sure tho if it counts).
