[ENG SUB] Cast Interviews

[ENG SUB]Kyuhyun's interview with Chosun

Other comments from that weren't on video but in the article (link)

“(When I joined The Three Musketeers back in 2010), 95% of musical fans cursed at me. Other 5% didn't care. I purposely read all the curses on the internet. I see 'There are people that think this way' then receive comfort by going to (my) fan cafes and see 'there are people that love me'. Out of the bad comments, if there are ones that have a point, I apply it to my acting. Changing till words like 'I watched him and he's decent' show up, that's the fun musicals give me.”

………

When the reporter said he watched Kyuhyun's 'Catch me if you can' first performance, Kyuhyun said “Sigh, you watched that? I was terrible.”

………

(He, who matured after receiving curses, said) “Idols need to receive some curses.” “It's a part that they have to endure. Actors receiving lead roles without slowly working their way up is receiving special privileges.”

………

Kyuhyun said “This time, I will try to stay at the practice hall from 10AM to 10PM.”
and “I have a spell I usually chant on stage, and I've been chanting it more recently.”
his 'spell' is 'There aren't any of my fans in that large audience'.
“I want to receive applauds for my acting from an audience of (calm-judging) musical fans.”

I remember Kyuhyun saying that earlier too... He said that he read negative comments to gauge response, the critiques/level-minded to apply to himself + get better, then the positive (fan) comments on bad days to cheer himself up some. Didn't the same thing happen with RS too? No one can say he doesn't work hard, at least.

Ether way, I can't imagine what it feels like to be cursed at by 30 sunbaes.

I tend to agree with you, I think. I think it's part of the culture itself (emphasis on seniority + methods of discipline) outside of just the musical system, but the musical scene itself seems bit excessive. It could just be because I don't hear much about it at all (I might just be remembering the bad)...but it can't be all that terrible, can it? Kyuhyun always says that he's gotten an immense amount of help from his sunbaes/the crew and he's made musical friends. I don't know how much of that is what he's saying for public consumption (you wouldn't complain in interviews), how much he's just used to the system there (obviously), or how much he means (I get the feeling that it's everything).

Anyway, I can sort of see how the feelings you get from being scolded by a large crowd of people can be channeled into intense acting emotion, but talking about the acting environment (especially the ice water bit)...I don't think I would handle that very well. I'm wondering if this kind of treatment is possibly different (worsened) because he's an idol? I'd like to think that the way he works would eventually prove to people that he's serious about what he's doing (probably more so than, say, Key, who just didn't learn the musical style of singing). I don't know, I definitely haven't seen enough about the BTS of musical theatre.

It's a relief to hear that it's rewarding for Kyuhyun though, at any rate. At least he likes what he's been running himself ragged with (even if he can't/won't date).

Recently an interesting article on musicals was reposted on omene, read it here (http://omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com/12396666.html). I think idols especially have it hard on musical scene, because they aren't orignally trained for them... Netizenbuzz has few related posts, here (http://netizenbuzz.blogspot.com/2013/10/key-on-chopping-block-for-bonnie-clyde.html), here (http://netizenbuzz.blogspot.com/2013/04/how-did-yeeun-do-in-her-first-musical.html) and here (http://netizenbuzz.blogspot.com/2013/01/actor-yoo-jun-sang-talks-about-working.html).

Ah, I've never acted before so I have no experience, but even I 'objectively' prefer the the second method to having emotions forced out of you (tears from sadness vs. tears from humiliation, idk?). Is it sacrificing organic emotions for the final 'product' (i.e., ends justifying the means)? x_x

Oh my God, though????? Like, sure, OK, don't treat him any differently than any other actor because he's an idol, whatever. But they're dunking his head in ice water? That can make someone sick; that shit's not funny. I know jackshit about the Korean musical scene, but I don't think that's normal.

He brought it up on RS when that sunbae (Yoo Joon Sang) was a guest. The reactions of the other people on set seemed to also think it was at least a little bit excessive (for being ten minutes late to practice), I think, because YJS clarified what happened and Kyuhyun said it was all good in the end,

I feel like vocally speaking, Seohyun isn't ready or suited for this role...

Maybe she'll surprise us? She's not the strongest singer out there, but she has pretty good technique = and is pretty accurate live. I can't hear her singing anything like what the trailer sounds like though, but maybe she's improved...?

seohyun will sound good in her solo songs but the duets are going to be a wreck because for some reason her voice doesn't sound good with other people (tts, kyuhyun, yonghwa, etc) lol. idek what it is it makes no sense to me.

Her voice lacks actual color/tone, idk. Everyone she sings with has more 'personality' or warmth to their singing than she does, so I can't even tell if she's just getting overpowered or she just doesn't blend/mesh well with other voices. I don't think the solos will sound great either - she can sing them to textbook perfection, but they just won't sound as good as the others (like the trailer singing).

She's just no where near the level of the voices in the video imo. The one good thing is that she's very good at harmonizing... But I feel like she sounds too technical.

Seohyun sings with textbook accuracy, but there's...no life in it. IDK, I don't think she can really hold her own alone - there are some voices that are interesting enough to sing a whole song (like IU or Younha), but there are others that just fall flat (like Seohyun and Hyorin, a bit, and I don't mean pitch-wise). I know musicals have helped a lot of idols improve, so maybe she'll stun us all? I don't have high hopes for it, though.

That Chosun Interview (written and video) is everything to me. I love him so much and I hope he's gonna get lots of praise for this.

Sort of off-topic to the idols in this musical, but I have to say that I really hope that this musical tours (and to Busan) because I would kill to see Jeon Dongseok again.

I got the chance to see as Tod in Elisabeth last September when it came to Busan and honestly, his voice. I forget how young he is sometimes when I hear it.

I'm glad that he's doing this musical again, especially because he won an award for it last year. I think that he's definitely someone that isn't a HUGE musical star in Korea yet like say...Park Euntae, but I think he's definitely making his way up there musical by musical.
