VIXX, "Vampire idol? Now we want to be the trend."

VIXX, who were one of the most successful idols last year, relayed their thoughts on ending promotions.

VIXX’s leader N recently met with reporters before going on stage at KBS Music Bank and said, “Although we were busy, last year 2013 was a time that we could take leisurely.”

Last January VIXX started off with “On and On” raising their awareness with earnest, and succeeded in forming a big fandom with ‘hyde’, ‘G.R.8.U’, and ‘Voodoo Doll’. In particular, ‘Voodoo Doll’ gave them their first #1 on a national music program after debut, as they proved their status as the idol trend. VIXX repaid the love they received from their fans by promoting follow up song ‘Thank You for My Love’ for two weeks.

As album promotions end this week, VIXX will take a period of time to redevelop themselves and plan to make a comeback within the first half of this year.



Regarding this, N explained, “It’s the truth that releasing several songs and busily working was personally tiring. However if I think about it, we got a lot out from it. Firstly, we could hold a 1st place trophy, and we also gained a lot more fans. The fact that I could release a bit of my burdens was the best part of it. I couldn’t express it while we were preparing last year, but I secretly worried that ‘If we can’t get #1 this time, VIXX or the people who helped VIXX might get really tired.’ But we were able to finish off with great results and shake off that burden.”

When asked, “Don’t you have more burdens if your album can’t get you #1?” N replied, “I think that will be a new challenge. ‘Voodoo Doll’ became a driving force for us to work harder and do better for 2014, therefore we can embrace that burden and start brightly.”

VIXX who kept their promise after debuting in 2012 to buy chicken for their fans if they won #1 have established a new goal. It’s for VIXX to become the trend of the music industry. N said, “After we achieved our 1st place goal, the members gathered and said, ‘Let’s become the trend’, creating a new mission for us. For example, if VIXX has been called ‘vampire idol’, ‘kids who wear lenses’, ‘fantasy concept idols’, now we want to be fixed in detail as ‘VIXX who wears lenses’, ‘the clothes that VIXX wears’.”

Although VIXX achieved great results with their successful promotions last year, they still regrettably live without cell phones. The phones that they turned in to their agency during debut had not been returned to them yet, and the six all share the team phone that N manages. N revealed, “I’m not sure if we can get our phones back our not. Once we finish up our activities well, I think I’ll have to ask them again.”

As of this year, all the members of VIXX are now adults. Maknae Hyuk turned 20 and is awaiting to start university, and N and Leo turned 25 this year, entering their mid-20s. Regarding this, N expressed, “Recently people around me told me, ‘You look like you have no energy. Is something wrong?’ They’re worried for me but I’m doing fine. Instead as time passes I think I’ve become more calm. I’m also the leader so I feel that I’ve become more careful about everything than before.”

"I’m thankful to my members for helping me so much. I think VIXX can do even better in the future," N revealed his aspirations and asked for more support and anticipation. After successfully completing domestic promotions, VIXX will meet fans around the world with their global showcase "Milky Way’ encore concerts and are currently preparing in earnest for Japanese promotions.

There's a ken focused fancam from a fansign a couple of days ago and he's been sniffling constantly.
There's also a selca for mcountdown and bb looked rough.

Hakyeon missed a fansign and people were saying he was sick. Some said he had personal schedule. Who knows what's up. Ravi didnt say why but just said it was a shame n couldnt be there.

i've heard about that misunderstandings with hakyeon but nothing about jaehwannie being sick at all. aw, poor babies. rough weather and killer schedules, must have been hard on them. and i heard they are all (except leo) joining that damned idol-championship thing too, today. i hope everything went well and no more injuries like the previous isac.

Im glad they're making leo sit this one out. It would have been so easy for a company to be like, nope! You're healedn get your ass there and get some airtime and get high search rankings! It's nice that they dont want to risk another injury when he's just recovered/still recovering. I was worried since leo has been saying he wanted to win next time.

That's what im hoping. I lighter schedule than the usual promo rounds they have to do.
Because well it is a job, and normal people dont really go on vacations for months. So i guess its the same or idols with 3 weeks leave for a year?

I guess they'll be fine with not being shuttled from one music show/fansign to the next. Maybe even an 8-10 hour uninterrupted sleep will do them wonders. Their eyebags are really prominent underneath that thick make-up. Do you know why Leo is not participating in the ISAC?

They said tao who was injured last time, is going to try and redeem himself this time while leo ended up foregoing the games this time after having to skip out on performances because of the injury last time.

Yeah. The boys are lucky that they ended up in jelpi ent. Eventhough they've been working non stop last year, at least they get pockets of rest. (Been rewatching plan v diary and vixx tv and I noticed that they were taken to MTs after promotions.)

They've been working nonstop but their schedule hasnt been as crazy as most popular idols though. Right? Like one performance and at most two fansigns in a day. Then random filming here and there. They also stayed in canada for days after their performance. That was around the end of gr8u performance. One of th most grueling week in their career because it was summer and their were tons of festivals to perform at. Plus leo's injury.
I remember thinking man that is crazy to have leo fly all the way to canada to sing while sitting down in one song performance when he can barely walk. But then they stayed in canada to chill for like 3 days? Then i thought, oh maybe that was why they made leo fly. That was the week before chuseok i think.

I can understand promoting again so soon in korea but tbh, i dnw japan promos cause that's a whole new ball game. Traveling can take such a toll on their bodies, and it's a new environment, new system they'd have to adapt to and maybe it can get too much emotionally/mentally. Then again, maybe that's how bbs can make some money.

Yes they got noticed in 2013, they need to secure their spot in 2014 in Korea and come back with a hit. Japan... I think it's definitively too early (at least seeing their small, but growing, popularity in Korea), plus the "kpop bubble" seems to have exploded. It won't be easy.
And as you said, it could a toll on their bodies, and I don't want them injured/dead-tired or anything that happens to k-pop stars moving in Japan at the wrong time :/
I would rather see them make some international tour from time to time, I'm sure international fans are willing to spend money on them (heck I've put more money in that concert ticket in Paris than for my favourite band).

IDK - Jelpi probably thought it was best while they gain popularity to try and maintain some kind of control over that. Don't want scandals breaking out while they're still on the rise and tarnishing all their hard work. They probably won't be without them for too much longer. yeah, it was really weird/shocking for me when I heard that some companies take away their cellphones. there's no way a manager or company could do that to n.american celebrities, that's just unheard of....although some of them could seriously use a cellphone time out. social media can be a career/image killer. it makes me wonder how much control they have over their own twitter accts.

i think what bothers me more is that it must feel isolating for them to not have that connection and freedom that most everyone else does. =/ But hopefully they'll get them back soon.

Yeah they're not stupid, a good explanation of social medias and what's supposed to happen when you're a celebrity could be a first step, before allowing them some freedom/social medias. It's not that complicated, actually (part of my internship was teaching social medias to young jobless people and most of them really changed their internet profiles after that). And that's different than owning a mobile. They can own a mobile and not have an internet connexion on it, thus less social medias (or social medias being banned). Phones are so important to keep in touch with family and friend, I agree that it must feel isolating not having one :(

Yup i think they'll be doing some sightseeing or some photoshoot while there. Jelpi doesnt really do that flying back and forth between countries and inserting as much schedules in between based on their europe/us dates in the past. Travel schedule wasnt hectic so they had time to breathe before rehearsals/concert day and after.
