Kpop Planet’s Ask Your Idol: Jaejoong Responds

KIM JAEJOONG is a K-pop singer best known as one of the original members of TVXQ and a current member of JYJ. He debuted with TVXQ in 2003 before breaking away in 2009 with two other TVXQ members, Junsu and Yoochun to form JYJ.

Jaejoong’s latest album is WWW (= Who, When, Why), released 29 October 2013 and quickly topped Korean music charts, along with iTunes charts in nine countries and reaching the upper tiers of Japan’s famous Oricon chart.



We carried out a special event called [Ask Your Idol: Ask JAEJOONG], where we chose the 15 questions fifteen questions from all posts with more than ten hearts ‘♥’, so fans can ask questions and get direct answers.

Jaejoong was kind enough to take a moment out of his busy schedule (from his endless concerts!) to answer the selected questions for KPOPPlanet.

Also, he took time to read other questions we sent him to read as well! (As one of you requested we sent him all the other questions that weren’t selected, to show him how much of his fans support him)

Q 1 (KPOPPlanet, Korea) : Your recent solo album activities and tour concerts were very impressive! Is there anything you want to share with us about your album or the tour?

I was nervous about bringing new music to the fans, worried that they might feel awkward and different towards it. Unexpectedly, many people love my music, which I am very thankful for! Also, it was great to feel that I gained more male fans through this album, haha! ^^

Q 2 (Lydia, USA) : In the pictures for your latest album there were many tattoos drawn on your body; was there any meaning behind them?

For my first mini solo album I, I expressed rock with accessories, hair styles… you know, the basic styling an artist can do. This time, I tried the tattoo to share just the right message of this full studio album, which has a dynamic feeling to it.

Q 3 (Hannah, Vietnam) : Among all your self-composed songs, which one do you have the happiest memory with and which one gives you the saddest memory?

“Paradise” is a song with a message that says I’ll love you now and forever. “I Did” is a ballad version of “Get Out.” The song’s story get’s easily stuck in my head and my heartaches every time I listen to it.

Q 4 (Rita, Russia) : What musical instrument could characterize your inner world?

Piano and guitar! For me, piano is excellent for expressing emotional and sentimental stories. As for guitars, it reflects extreme emotions very well.

Q 5 (Ann, United Kingdom) : If you were given a chance to collaborate with international artists, who would it be and why?

Wow, I would love to collaborate with L’Arc-en-Ciel and Maximilian Hecker!

Q 6 (Elvira, Lithuania) From the latest tweets it looks like Yoochun and Junsu didn’t have the opportunity to visit your home yet ^^. Are you planning on inviting them in the near future? If yes, could you post some dorky photos of their visit later?

We haven’t seen each other due to individual activities, so we talk to each other through texts or calls. When they have time I’ll invite them or invite myself to theirs! When that happens, I’ll post a picture of it ~~~ ^^

Q 7 (Loresu, Spain) : Why is your album gold-colored? Is there any hidden meaning or is it just aesthetic?

It’s simple, I like the color gold! It’s nice! ^^

Q 8 (Mei Xin, Singapore) : If you had a daughter, will you let her date Junsu or Yoochun and why?

Hm… I’d like to pass this one, haha! No comment~!



Q 9 (Ella, Texas) : I know you said JYJ is planning to release an album next year, so is there a chance for JYJ as a group to explore the rock sound too or other genres outside of pop music?

It will definitely be very different from any other solo albums. When we do music as JYJ, it creates a bigger synergy because its all three of us doing something together. Rather than feeling safe because we’re three, we try to keep balance with each other. So, when we perform as a group, we try not to show off like as we do when we are solos. It’s keep with each other’s pace to not break the balance.

Q 10 (Fawzia, Saudi Arabia) Do you read the fans messages through social networking sites such as Twitter?

Of course I do! ^^ I try reading them all, but Saudi Arabian words are quite difficult to read…haha

Q 11 (Deedee, Indonesia) : Among so many books you’ve read so far, which one is your ultimate favorite? Why? And what quote(s) do you like the most from it?

I read The Nightly Book of Positive Quotations. I read it before going to bed, or anytime when I have spare time. The quote that I really liked was ‘The ideal never comes. Today is ideal for him who makes it so.’ ~~ ^^

Q 12 (Emily, Poland) : Are there any other female artists that you admire and would like to collaborate with?

Female artist..? I would love to do something with Kesha!

Q 13 (Kana, Russia) : What do you do when you feel bad and sad?

I would say… try to accept it!

Q 14 (Mai, Thailand) : Can you tell us each of JYJ’s member’s secret?

Well, I’ll keep my member’s secret a secret…! As for me, my jinx is that things backfire when I try to maintain something too hard to be excellent in one thing.

Q 15 (Sabrine, France) : I wanted to know if your dream was to become a singer? Because if this is the case, you will be a model.

Actually, my dream was to be an owner of a super market! ^^;;

Q 16 (Micaela, Italy) How do you think your next work will be like? Which direction will it take? Stronger rock feel? A mixture of other genres? Or…?

As a solo, I want to continue doing rock, but, I don’t want to limit myself to one genre. I guess I’ll keep on doing ‘my’ music. Music that has my color and my scent!

Though wouldn't a new JYJ album this year be really awkward timing? Since it's been said that Junsu and JJ are enlisting this year? And maybe Yoochun, but idk with his asthma. There would be a really weird gap between the release and any possible concerts unless they push everything in a short time frame, which I can't see as beneficial.

pretty sure they can't enlist until quite late in the year anyway because they're supposed to attend the opening of the incheon asian games ceremony in september. so if they manage to release an album fairly soon after yoochun's drama is finished filming then it could probably work out. but who knows with jyj really...

Ok, found out that there are different translations to the song; 그랬지. I've seen it being called "It Is" while on Itunes International, it's called "I said I'm Sorry". And some translate 그랬지 as I Did. Was confused with the name I did at first.

The official english names for Jaejoong's songs (kpop songs in general, tbh) are usually never exact translations of the Korean titles. They just come up with random names.

LOL I feel like the only person who would actually want to see a Jaejoong/Kesha collab.
It would be crazy and strange and Just as weird as both of them. But I have a feeling it could be fabulous XD She's a pretty good song-writer.
After all, she did basically write (compose?) Run Devil Run and that song will always remain one of my favorites~

As much as Kesha's inability to sing live makes me want to bang my head on bricks, she does have chops as a writer and composer. That's the irony of her lacking vocal skills. And something I nevvvverrrrr thought I'd say, but legit her and Jaejoong could come up with some crazy ass piece that would be perfection with his vocals and their combined effort. I like to see him go outside the box, even if rock is what makes me drool the most.

I often describe Jaejoong's tastes/fashion/personality as being the most epic thrift store ever. If that makes sense.

♥ Been up and down lately, real life has been kinda INSANE in good and bad ways; barely any net in October, kinda sorta happened to adopt a horse though so November was busting my butt at his boarding stable to cover his board, theeeeen had to move him because of an outbreak of a disease that'd kill'em, and now dealing with being smacked in the face with the full force exhaustion of it all. But at the end of the day OMGIHAVEAHORSEAGAINGLEE. :DDDD I've wondered where you'd been, how was it? Adventures in our family tend to be er.. special. I mean, it's nice to see my parents since I don't get to all that often, but every time I do visit I'm reminded of why I only see them occasionally in the first place ROFL

Omg, I love answering questions and sharing him and being all OMG LOOK A HORSE OMG FREAKOUT101. He's a Friesian/Paint cross; his father is a 16.2h Friesian stallion out of Holland (http://www.hy-color-sporthorses.com/SIRJJ.htm), and his mother is a Grade A homozygous Tobiano Paint mare; homozygous basically means she'll always throw her tobiano coat, tobiano being the type of pattern. It makes him a Tobiano Pinto Friesian Sport horse. He was named Mister Romeo, however because of the situation (the breeder had given the pregnant mare to a friend of the family with the deal that if she took care of the mom and the baby until the baby sold, she'd get the mom for free instead of 1,500), he was called Mister by the girls taking care of him and Romeo by his breeder... sooooo because I'm a freak of nature and into mythology, and thought Romeo was a bit corny, my mom and I decided to rename him Loki after the Norse god... forgetting the Thor movie was coming out as a side note. He has a HUGE lightning strike on his side and is super intelligent to the point that he's a bit mischievous so it fit. I've ridden recreationally since age 3, however my dream was always to do cross country or normal jumping. He's built for basically anything; Western, English, you name it. He could go SO far with his bloodlines and build. His dad's sire is one of the most famous Friesians in Holland so I'm mindblown that we worked out a deal with the breeder so I was basically given him for nothing, versus paying 3k. It's a long story with so many weird little things that all connected together that it still makes me pinch myself, especially when I'm with him.



This is him at 6 hours old, born on June 30th, 2013

The day he arrived; November 5th, so he was just over 4 months old (VERY young for being weaned). He was such a champ; if I hadn't gotten him, he'd still have been weaned that young and put out to pasture with other colts.

A month later on December 5th, kinda see how much he grew in a month.

His first time in the snow. I was SO lucky because the boarding stable is quite far away, however they kept the horses in their stalls and the roads there are heavily traveled so I was literally the first to take him into the snow. I felt so nerdy and happy about it.

Blanking on the day, however he was being a little model in the sun and wind after being groomed. XD

AND today, in the pouring rain without a blanket as he's growing too fast to buy him a rain sheet; got him a snow one since we had 10-16 degree days, but man now it's warm and rainy, LOL he was one wet wookie. It was surprising though to see him like this because his winter coat is VERY thick so I often don't see how much muscle he's grown, and how freaking massive he's getting. He looks like a yearling there, blows my mind.

I have so many pictures it's sickening. -_-; Going to make him a Facebook though.


ROFL, oh god I know how that is with my dad and my brother. I hope the 3 days pass quickly than, and are smooth and easy so you can enjoy it but also get out and breathe a sigh of relief. I've never been to Texas, but I hear it's an interesting culture shock if you're from either coast. Hopefully you at least got to have some fun while there and enjoy yourself. Even if family can be oh so aggravating at times.

OMG!!!!! I can't get over how adorable that bb horse is ;; Especially the pic of him in his first snow. His face is so precious ;;;;;
He's going to grow up to be the most gorgeous horse.
How often do you get to go out and see him? And seriously good call on the rename! Loki is a much better choice than Mister Romeo. I have actually never seen any of the Thor movies >__< but I like that name A LOT.

With a horse this gorgeous (and holy crap, his bloodline is legit) I really hope that you do get to compete with him in the future!

He's got the most adorable face ever, even when he's being a jackass and trying to kick my face off (had a bad night tonight, he went nuts out of nowhere and reared/kicked; he's weird and WANTS to go in his stall, and got mad I didn't take him there for dinner XD). It's ironic because usually I love horses with white markings on their faces, but I love his face and the dark marks on his eyes and lips. And nose. He's so cute omg.

In November I saw him for a week and a half solid, then basically every other day until end of the month when I took 4 days off (LONGEST 4 days ever omg). December was touch and go because we moved him to a new facility I didn't/couldn't work at to pay off board, and exhaustion hit. Saw him probably every 2 or so days. This last month has suckkkkked, haven't seen him as much as I want to. :[ I think part of his attitude today/yesterday revolves around me being gone 5 days. Even adult horses get pissy when you're gone a long time. I'm new to boarding, since we had our horses on our own land, so I'm having to adapt to the 30-45 min drive. Soon as we have a second car, probably will be there every night if possible. Just need to figure out what to do with him since he's trained so well already. I take lotttttts of pictures, graze him in the thick grass, and work him in the arena right now. Plus an hour to two of grooming.

I hope so too. He'd be SO fun to take to the show ring. He has a lot of gaits as well that most foals don't show; he has his walk, then a little short step trot, then this huge loft trot that you often see in Dressage, then a bunny hop run, a gallop, and a full out canter that's insanely fast. I might go both ways with him and train him English and Western, do jumping in English (maybe dressage, depends on the pricing and people),and barrel racing or western pleasure in western. So many options. I do know though that soon as the weather is dryer and nicer, I'm going to trick train him since I can't ride him till 3 or 3 1/2; Friesians grow longer and backing them too early can screw up their backs. So I plan to teach him bowing, sitting, laying down on command, rearing on command, Spanish Walk, and a few other tricks. It creates a really close bond too.

Omg I could ramble about him forever. I've GOT to get his Facebook done, but if I'm not with him I'm dead in bed, lmao he's a tiring little bugger. Totally worth it though.

Wow at you guys who think the "daughter dating Junsu or Yoochun" question is gross. Haven't you ever heard of a hypothetical question? AKA "IF you had a daughter old enough to date Junsu or Yoochun which would you want her to date?" It's basically just another way of asking "who do you think would make a better boyfriend?"

ANYWAY... a Jaejoong/Kesha collab would be hilarious and awesome XD.
