South Korean actor Choi Min-Sik ('Old Boy') has joined the cast of director Luc Besson's upcoming sci-fi superheroine movie 'Lucy'. The role will mark the first non-Korean outing for Choi and he will be appearing alongside Hollywood heavyweights Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman.

The story for 'Lucy' centers around a drugs mule (Johansson) who is infected by her cargo and gains telekinetic powers, the ability to see into the future and a total disregard for pain. Freeman will play a professor who specialises in neurology, and is apparently the only person that can help Lucy survive. No word yet on Choi's role but you can bet your bottom dollar that he'll be the bad guy.

'Lucy' is scheduled to start shooting this year and will be released theatrically on 8 August 2014.

Storyline: We are prisoners of our own bodies, slaves to Evolution's slow hand, impatiently waiting for our species' inheritance... infinite intelligence and a body unbound by time. What would happen if human evolution was suddenly accelerated? Lucy (Scarlett Johansson), a young American living in Taipei, is drawn into the deadly world of Mr. Wang and his triad. At gunpoint she is forced to work for him. But in a violent turn of events, a massive dose of an experimental drug is released within Lucy's body; exploding her brain's capacity, unleashing a new and advanced consciousness. With the help of a famous Neuroscientist (Morgan Freeman) and French Policeman (Amr Waked), Lucy struggles to survive long enough to share her new knowledge, before Wang and his Gang can catch her.

Taipei. Unless he's playing a Korean living in Taiwan I guess all people of east asian descent are interchangeable once again. RME.

I'll just ship Choi and Freeman. That should keep me happy.

Can I hope for something just a little bit as impressive as 5th Element?

At first I was super happy when I read the headline and I think the summary of the plot doesn't even sound that bad (it could be really good or really stupid) but yeah, when I read the storyline I had similar worries as RocknRollPumpkin - unless he plays a Korean living in Taiwan, I'm side-eyeing this casting.

I was excited and slightly intrigued, then I read the plot and saw that the movie will be set in Taiwan and (I assume) Choi Min Shik is playing Mr. Wang.

Um. Choi Min Shik is a fantastic actor, but he's not Chinese or Taiwanese. We're not interchangeable, Hollywood.
