Girl’s Day members talked about their new sexy concept, leaving behind their previous cute image.

Making a comeback with its third mini album, Girl’s Day held a showcase for the press on January 3 at Patio 9 in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

After performing its newest song Something, Hyeri talked about the group’s new concept.

“We tried to express the more sophisticated and captivating sexiness, and tried not to cross the line. We put a lot of efforts into my song, dance and the music video. I hope fans will like our new concept,” said the Girl’s Day member.

So Jin also said, “Actually the cute concept makes me feel really uncomfortable.”

Hyeri added, “We released many albums last year, so we were more excited than nervous about releasing this one. We had plenty of time to prepare and the song came out really well too, so I feel confident about this album.”

Meanwhile, Girl’s Day’s new mini album’s title song Something is a dance song that combines hip-hop groove with acoustic sounds, eliminating as much electronic sound as possible, allowing listeners to focus on the members’ singing.

so, wait - they like the new concept?! I'd heard before, from an OMONAer, that it was the sexy concepts they dislike. Hrm.

But I do like the new mini (the intro is already one of my favorite ones of the past 6 months) and if they are into their new look/sound then I can be too

well its not like disliking sexy concepts and disliking cutesy concepts is mututally exclusive

i can see why female president was uncomfortable to them because of yuras butt being filmed and their cutesy concepts have always been over-the-top aegyo, not in a satirical way like orange caramel either... its like two opposite ends of the spectrum

neither are really preferable

I believe it was specifically Yura who said she'd felt uncomfortable after having been told that only her torso would be filmed in that scene of Female President and then discovering after the release that yes, her butt was on display.

And that's not really mutually exclusive with Sojin feeling uncomfortable doing ridiculously cute concepts, considering that she's a 27 year old woman with a degree in mechanical engineering.

I think that got exaggerated. Yura complained because the company lied to her about what would be included in the MV-- and she was totally in the right about it. The other thing was making them jump into pools in skimpy costumes in front of a bunch of reporters. They had to do a lot of really uncomfortably sexual stuff, I don't think that translated to them disliking a sexy concept though.

I hope they're saying this because they genuinely mean it and not because they're management is putting words in their mouth like last time.

Yep & I don't even see why they need to emphasize it, almost every other female group does sexy concepts. It's nbd.

Idk, I feel like there's a whole lot of variety of concepts available to girl groups at any given moment, from preschool cutesy, to klutzy cutesy, lolita sexy, mature sexy, high fashion cool, tomboyish, sporty... Just look at what's currently being promoted on this weekend's live music shows. Especially when Crayon Pop just had their breakthrough wearing tracksuits and helmets you can't exactly say concepts for girl groups in kpop are that limited... ;)

tbf boy groups do a limited amount of concepts too. there's variations that make it seem like boy groups have endless concepts but tbh there's definitely a pattern (sexy, dark, crazy/punks, hip hop swag, or cutesy). girl groups are the same way imo

They sound pretty good the few songs I heard on youtube today. The cute concepts I have seen so far is not too much. I can only handle cutesy stuffs in small doses from both males and female idols. I want to like a new female group so I have been looking for any MTV diary or similar BTS concept but so far I have no luck.

Twinkle Twinkle was cute, but it was a bit too much for me. I really liked Expectations and this song.

Omg you speak the truth. For every element in 'Something' (choreo, vocals, outfits, song itself) there's at least one artist out there who's done it better than Girl's Day. But I don't know about 9 Muses and Sweetune. Ironically, 9M just don't have that kind of broad spectrum as Girl's Day do simply because they're always working with Sweetune and a lot of their songs and concepts sound/look similar.

(And hdu forget Nothing Lasts Forever, it's just as jam-worthy as Excectation and probably the best Girl's Day song ever!)

I'm confused. Wasn't the sexy concept the one they disliked?
But I can see why Sojin dislike the cute concept. Iirc she's in her late 20s so she probably finds the cute concepts kinda silly and embarrassing.

I think the problem is theres never a happy medium with their concepts. Its either rdiculously aegyo (Twinkle Twinkle) or sexy to the point where the members arent comfortable with it.

From: [identity profile] engraved-16.livejournal.com
Yeah, i definitely agree. It always teeters off to one side when they do both concepts.

Considering we know for a fact that they hated the concept of Female President I'm not entirely sure that's what they meant. I think they like the mature concept of Don't Forget Me more than straight out sexy poses.
Sojin is an interesting one because she's both naturally cute and naturally sexy (along with very silly!) so for her to say she doesn't like cute concepts is weird! She fits in perfectly with them...
