2013debuts-800x450

With K-Pop going as strong as ever, the endless wave of new group debuts continues to keep us entertained.

These two videos feature debuts from 36 boy groups and 31 girl groups! (that is 163 boys and 121 girls!) This is a little less than last year, which had 38 new boy groups and 41 girl groups. In trying to cover as much as possible, vocal groups, duos, bands, rappers, and sub units are included.

The groups are featured in order of debut.

Boy Groups

Girl Groups

To allow for more variety, it seems companies have further embraced the idea of sub units. This year we had Infinite-H, ZE:A5, uBEAT, 100% V, 2YOON, DASONI, T-ara N4, M&N and BOM&HI.

Another interesting thing to note this year is that there wasn’t there wasn’t a debut from the big 3 (not counting sub units). However, they do all have plans for new groups in 2014. YG‘s Winner, while on TV has yet to make their official debut. JYP will be releasing their new boy group GOT7 this month, along with another boy group and girl group later. SM has just started showing off their trainees through SM Rookies.

While it would be nearly impossible to copy the level of popularity EXO and B.A.P in their 2012 rookie year, there are definitely a few standouts from last year.

the only groups that really made an impact on me (excluding subunits) were ladies code, BESTie, and bts (i don't stan them but it's easy to tell how popular they are). history did with their debut song but their subsequent stuff has been... whelming.

disappointed that there wasn't another soshi subunit debuted this year :c where's my hyoyul unit!!!

Debuts last year sucked and were really disappointing. The only ones that caught my attention were Ladies' Code, GI, Odd Eyes, and History.

Even sub-units were really disappointing- 2Yoon and Infinite-H especially. Like, they involved my fave members of their respective groups, but I wasn't into either of their releases. I do have to say that I loved T-ara N4's song. The dance was a lot of fun too. Best sub-unit I think.

I will say though that although 2013 didn't have many good debuts, it brought the laughs. Looking at you Wa$$up and Purplay. idk K-pop is going to have to try extra hard to get me to like a rookie group, cause I'm slipping away and becoming harder to please...

i've stopped keeping track of debuts since like 2011; i can barely keep up with my favourite groups i definitely don't have time to care about others. most of the time i listen to newbie songs when my classmates force them on me

wow I'm actually pretty shocked at the number of these groups I have never heard of (esp amongst girls).

I probably have very ~basic~ taste but the only groups that really caught my attention are bestie and History (minus that second single, that was godawful D:)

Also, most subunits were quite disappointing :(

I stopped bothering to check out new groups (from nugu companies) already couple years ago, so pretty much all of these apart sub groups were total unknown acts for me. I wonder how many of these groups have already disbanded and their management companies filed for bankruptcy? Hoping for less new debuts this year from nugu companies...

Its getting harder and harder to please me. Im sorry if i dont get the "Oh my gawd who are they!" moment they didnt leave a great impression on me therefore i ignore their effort and so on so forth. That's how i even started listening to Kpop in first place, because of the different feel and each group having their own identity that can be distinguished. All of these rookie groups just look and sound like wanna be clones(clones of clones especially the cutesy groups). The only groups that made an impression on me was Wa$$up, GI, Purplay and probably Bestie. I mean this is where i stand with supporting rookies, who ever is running these groups need to work harder if they want that dollar.

Sucks about History, they were kinda cool. But Winner, Got7 are gonna sink all the male rookies. I hope BTS can survive because they're great.

BP Pop are gonna do great things.
Forever cries at the wasted potential of Queen B'Z.
Tren-D are cute as hell (even though their company's attempts to get some of that Crayon Pop formula is obvious)

Let's count how many ways NEGA continues to half ass everything jfc.

Like most of you, I'm in the dark about most of these groups but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that many of these boy bands were actual bands, that played their own instruments.

LOVING Ladies Code & BTS. Bestie has surprised me with their success, especially since EXID hasn't been heard from in a while. Where they at?!

I'm glad I found History. Their 2nd comeback was a mess but "What am I to you" was pretty good imo
I liked Mama Beat, M&N.

There were a lot of secondhand embarrassment watching these....
I found some new ppl to check out though, especially ones who sit still and sing without colorful hair and half-assed cliche choreographies.

PUNGDENG-E!!!

Bestie and History are fantastic. Probably the only ones I really care about. Although Bestie I'm ready for a real mini or something I need more then 2 songs.

Also props to 2Yoon and Infinite H because both units got me to finally care about their respective groups who are now my bias groups.

Yo whatever happened to LC9 their debut MV was everything then they disappeared off the face of the earth.

What, no N.O.M.? :)

So many interchangeable 5 person groups being cute in bright colors. I love Lush and GI, though, and want more from odd eye and Queen B'z (and, uh, Turan, though I have no idea why.)

History needs another good song (more like Dreamer) and I'll follow them, same with LC9 and maybe Royal Pirates.

BESTie, Ladies Code and Nari (Wa$$up) were the most memorable gg debuts and i will be checking these girl in 2k14. BTS for boys, really enjoyed 'no more dreams' and their albums were great. also i was late in discovering mr.mr but their last song is like one of my fav songs of 2013
