“Beautiful Man‘s” star actor Jang Geun Suk revealed that he “went to the hairdresser three times a day” during filming days.

In KBS2‘s Wed-Thurs drama “Beautiful Man,” Jang Geun Suk appears with a variety of hairstyles to play the world’s most beautiful man Dokgo Mate. Jang Geun Suk discusses the back story to why Dokgo Mate has so many hairstyles.

He clarifies that the drama is not fashion show for Dokgo Mate, and that his changing appearances coincides with Dokgo Mate’s growth as a character. He hopes that the constantly changing appearance of Dokgo Mate doesn’t distract viewers from the character’s growth. Jang Geun Suk also let us know that Dokgo Mate’s hair might appear shorter in the future.

“Beautiful Man” premiered on November 20, and the drama is becoming popular among women as the changing styles of Dokgo Mate have been a hot topic for discussion.

I'm not a fan of his hair ever lol even now. But the drama is pretty cute and IU's character is REALLY cute and weird. But OF COURSE I like the second lead bc he's really cute and weird too and I'm an idiot who always falls for the guy who doesn't get the girl.

im watching it!!!! and im really enjoying it and i feel like im the only one. lol @ everyone that says it's horrible. idk i dont take it seriously. it's quirky and funny and sometimes i think it's almost satire to other dramas

I'm enjoying it too! I think there are definitely elements of satire in there, and though I can't quite articulate it I do feel like they're playing with gender stereotypes as well (I can't put my finger on what gives me that impression, but it's just a thought that occurred to me while watching the show)

It’s loosely based on its namesake, the French satirical novel, “Bel Ami” by Guy de Maupassant, about a man who manipulates wealthy women with his charm and good looks to climb the social ladder.

The most obvious satire in this drama is that around ideas of beauty, especially when tied to success and wealth. Dokgo Mate is good looking, but poor and uneducated. His ticket out of poverty is his looks, and though his actions are distasteful and the way he treats Bo Tong is pretty vile, we still want him to succeed. But the good life isn’t being handed to him on a golden platter; he must work for it (or make Bo Tong do it for him, heh).

It’s slightly darker underbelly pokes fun at Korean society, and the ruthlessness of people who care only about scandals, inheritance, social status (much like 1890’s Paris). It also pokes fun at superstitious people who spend lots of money looking for other people to tell them how to solve their problems.

I mean, how can you not love The Electric Fairy? The blend of traditional and the slightly creepy strangeness of the circus décor where she performs her act (is it real? Is it not? Maybe both?) is spectacular. Instead of dancing in a ritual, she shocks herself with electricity, surrounded by cymbal banging toy monkeys.

I haven’t seen much political commentary (if you have, let me know!!), but that isn’t surprising, as KBS is controlled by the ruling conservative Saenuri Party and the last thing they want to talk about is their stolen election and the rampant corruption that exists among the ruling elite. Anyways, that’s another story…..

But I am loving it. Its smarter than most of the shows on right now, and even though it marketed itself in a pretty lame way, it is exceeding my expectations.

I'm watching it and liking it, generally! it's kind of fading into the background for me right now, but I'm really enjoying Botongie and Choi David's burgeoning friendship – they are the cutest and I am not sure how Mattei is gonna convince me to prefer him – and the atmosphere of the show is really nice, very rom-com lightness and fluffiness. I'd like to see more of Botongie tbh, and I'd love it if the women Mattei romances were a bit less instantly swoon-y, but in general it's a pleasant show.

I'm really enjoying it so far! Between watching Heirs (mess) and Reply 1994 (ALL the feels) I needed something light and fun to act as a breather and this is perfect. JGS is great, bad hair and all and IU just lights up the screen in every scene she's in, she's so adorably quirky and lovely in the role I just can't you guys ;~; I've now watched everything IU has acted in and I think she's an incredibly charming actress that's improved a ton since her Dream High days.
I do admit I don't find the 'seduce all these women with my beauty' storyline particularly interesting but I am SO here for all things Bo Tong/Dokgo Ma Te/David Choi related.

I watch and skip all the scenes having anything to do with JGS and who he's the illegitimate child of /him wooing these rando women/him staring off into the sunset for no discernible reason because that stopped being funny somewhere in ep 2.

Totally here for IU in this and the guy who plays David Choi. I'd watch an hour of those two just getting into shenanigans.

Also, JGS is a pretty man???? I don't see it y'all... I just do not see it.

I'm watching the drama and I love it, it's everything I need in order the recover from the boring mess known as 'The Heirs'. I'm not really watching it b/c of JGS (though he was brilliant in the funeral breakdown scene) but b/c of IU. She's a glorious, fluffy and adorable heroine. I wish people would pay more attention to her acting, whereas other idol actresses are incredibly overrated.

Oh and I'd love it, if we had discussion posts.

And yes! This is just like MSOAN. The drama had so many of my faves, plus great actors but you right people hated it. I'm not exactly sure why, but I really feel like it has to do with JKS…

Meh, I think I've re-watched that drama a couple of times now. The characters were cute and the storyline was playful. I mean, that's all you can expect right? And I don't think it was trying to be anything other than that.
