A drama about a group of college students who live in a boarding house located in Shinchon, run by Na Jung and her family, that houses students from all over the countryside who come to Seoul for college. It will cover the lives of college freshmen in 1994 as they learn to live in a big city and what the students will go through as they experience Seoul, the basketball tournament obsession, Seo Taiji and Kids, and other social issues that occurred in 1994.

not here for Chilbong making Najung feel bad or awkward about not beinh with him/not falling for him. What he said about how him being nice ruined his chances with NJ, yeah, Idgaf. please keep that to yourself.

I'm just over feeling sorry for him. Najung is with someone else, someone whom she clearly has strong feelings for. She has been clear with CB from the beginning about where she stands with him. You need to move the fuck on.

Binggrae's sacrifice for his family was really touching. I liked Najung's quote that played during that scene.

I think that certain aspects of the show are really wearing it down like the mystery husband and love triangle. There are many scenes which just drag and some scenes which I don't even know why they are there. The love triangle is really overpowering a lot of the show. The individual characters are adorable and likeable. The cast is great too. There are still the touching stories. I would recommend maybe waiting until it is over to start. This way you won't have to wait and can see the whole finished product.

i live for trash/binggure scenes. i don't know if we're getting any next ep because it seems that bingu goes MT with his classmates, but i do hope it goes back to normal right after and they get to talk to each other and stuff. i still need some kind of confession from binggure to his sunbaenim. i don't expect something along the lines of junhee in 1997, but i want him to tell trash he really admires him/he's an important figure for him. ;w; i just need that ok

The handshake scene was really beautifully done and shot. As for Chilbong I have said this before on dramabeans but Feelings don’t come with an on and off switch. It is really foolish to wait for someone who is in a relationship with someone else however, you can’t help how you feel. Time can change feelings but the way I see it Chilbong going all the way means he won’t have any regrets later in life. Whoever he marries and whatever he does, any girl is truly lucky to be with him.

The love triangle is really getting out of control. I really don't understand why we need so many episodes. They are totally going to drag this to the end. It needs to end and we need to move on. Chilbong's persistence is foolish and annoying as well. But without it it seems that there is nothing more to the story.

I actually liked that he said I was too nice. Just like the saying Nice guys finish last. I am not saying Najung owes him anything just because he was being nice like a good friend. He seems like the guy hides his suffering from everyone. He keeps his emotions bottled up. When he said he was too nice, it’s a nice reminder that he too is human. There is a limit to how much more he take when his heart is breaking. If he hadn’t said anything like that I would have thought there is no way this guy is human.

I think we are also all being too critical of the characters especially Najung, Oppa and Chilbong. They all are so young. Barely even adults. They have so much yet to learn and experience. No one is perfect. It's easier for us to make judgement on them since we are a third party who is observing them. Unfortunately people will get hurt that is life but we know that the 2013 versions of each of the characters are more mature than their counterparts.

That being said I hope we get more backstories and development of all characters. Especially Najung who we still don't really know. Also shout out to Lee Sang Min this week. Nice to know he is still around.

I am now so firmly on the Chilbongie train it's ridiculous and I think I know how the writers are gonna get NJ and him together. December 31, 1999 they are gonna meet again, NJ is gonna be single, and it's going to beautifully parallel the confession scene from earlier in the series and it's going to be perfect and everything I ever wanted. I just have to say that the snow scene / fate scene..... *death* I got more butterflies from that than I did practically every NJ / Trash kiss scene. The hat!!!! With the picture inside?!?!?!?! UGHHHHHHHH!!!!!

i'm sad about what the writers are doing to chilbong's character. i really liked him during the first episodes until his new year's eve confession. he began to go down after that moment imo... right now he's just being uncomfortably insistent (and boring). i don't like the fact that he doesn't take najeong's feelings for oppa into account AT ALL, and his logic that if she's not with trash she'll be with him?¿? L O L ok. whatever. follow your dreams. -sigh- i'm very disappointed he's turned out like this.


and on a brighter note, SO excited for ep 16. too many feels for binggure scenes and cameos. i'm trying to calm down my expectations but ugh i hope it's good.

Najung and Chilbong's characters are suffering because of the love triangle. They are reduced to only love interests not real people. I believe there are other types of love rather than romantic love. I feel bad for Yoo Yeon Seok and Go Ahra. This drama is part of their breakout performances but they don't really have much to work with. Chilbong has so much potential too especially with his broken family. But it doesn't seem like we will be getting that.

I love Yoo Yeon Seok so I can never stop loving Chilbong. But I can disapprove of his actions. I really don't understand the baseball either. I wish it was introduced earlier in the show so it could have been like the pendant in dream high. It could have represented dreams and aspirations since there is a beautiful story behind it. It would have been great to pass around from character to character while we had some background on each. This way it would actually mean something than be part of the love triangle.

I really don't get all the CB hate. If anything I love him even more for not giving up! He's in love with her even though he knows she's in love with someone else, there's nothing he can do about that ("give up"? have you never been in love? it's not that easy). But being clear about it, wearing his heart on his sleeve and honestly declare that he's willing to wait? I find this awesome. They're 20 years old, just because you're in love/dating someone at that age doesn't mean that he is the love of your life. They're too young, and keeping his hope along with his feelings seem just right to me.

I'm not going to comment on Trash's character, because I do like him as a person. Is the "lover" aspect I can't buy. I see that he loves her, but him being IN love with her seems so forced. I don't think its the actors' problem but rather the characters' (NJ and Trash feel way too much like a family for me to get excited about their romantic moments). And that's probably the biggest reason I want her with CB. Because T/NJ kissing makes me roll my eyes, and then CB unwilling to let go of her hand just yet.... it's killing me. He's SO there. In every single moment they're together, you can see she has his full attention. The way he looks at her, the way he's conscious of everything that is her and more importantly the way he likes every single thing about her... just gets me! I'm not saying he "deserves" her more, because there's not such thing when it comes to love. I'm saying that as a viewer this is what I want to watch, and this couple is the one that gives me feels.

All the Future Hubby business aside, Binggeure's story had me. Letting go of his dream for the people he loves... gosh. It's just so real.

At the risk of sounding like a smug bitch (okay, I do sound like a smug bitch) I said weeks ago, the fact that everything revolves around a love triangle is this show's downfall.

The writer has really failed with Chilbongie, turning him into an obsessive second lead male character, which is really unfortunate. Its similar to Jung Yong Hwa's character in Mirae's Choice. Like Se Joo, Chilbongie seems to think that just because the woman he loves is not in a relationship, somehow they HAVE to be with him.
Women are not prizes in competitions. You can’t “steal” them, win them, or lose them as if they have no volition of their own. They are not objects. THEY ARE NOT BASEBALLS.

i have so many mixed feelings for chilbong rn, sigh... the handshake scene and the restaurant scene (~is snowing outside~ omg pls) were good. even though the 'bc i was too nice i was ruined' line made me cringe i kind of understand what he was trying to say, idk. but i guess the fact that he went to japan shows that he knows he has to move on somehow, even if for now he can't stop liking her. but ugh that baseball scene with trash was awful :(

the scene of najung crying in her first date with oppa broke my heart, she was keeping it all bottled up for so long, aw bb. i liked the scenes of haitai in the army, of yoonjin and scp having a hard time in their relationship bc of seo taiji and especially of binggrae going back to college for his family. it isn't what most stories tell, normally is the kid who's being pressured into doing something they hate bc their parents are awful and inconsiderate, so it was refreshing to see him deciding to go back to med school bc he loves his family and is grateful for all their efforts to send him off to college.

oppa and najung are qt and all, jungwoo is so funny with his aegyo lmao. but as a couple they do nothing for me and i got bored tbh. but it's nice seeing them so happy.

but yeah i feel like they're dragging this a lot tho, this love triangle is basically pointless now

I don't ship Najung and Chilbong anymore because she hasn't shown any romantic feelings for him. I don't ship Najung and Trash since his idiocy in the middle stretch when he was passive about his feelings and their love story feels forced now. In the beginning I was perfectly alright with both couples, but now I just don't care anymore. And the problem is that the story is only revolving around the love triangle so I need to care about them.

Why we still know almost nothing about Najung? That's my biggest problem with this show. I feel like writers are trying more to trick me, then to actually tell a story.

I don't ship anyone with Najung anymore. I am more of Team Everyone's happiness and character development. The only pairing that is working for me is Yoo Jin and Samchunpo. In fact, after everything that is happened so far I am actually surprised that Najung, Oppa and Chilbong are still friends. In reality I actually think neither of them would end up with her.

I can't connect with Najung on an emotional level at all. I don't know who she is at all.

All the other characters are great though.

It's just sad NJ is not the lead in her own show. She shows no depth, no growth, she's just... there, a corner in that messy triangle. But worse is that all the characters are still pretty much unidimensional, and the little development they do get is limited to a few scenes drowned out by the loooong screentime given to the angsty love triangle.

I used to love this love triangle and now I hate it. Chilbong was my favorite character but now since the writers still want to keep his side of the triangle alive, they end up making him look desperate and pathetic. If it's that important to make it continue being a love triangle, don't have Na Jeong love only Trash to the point that Chilbong has to do such annoying things like that baseball metaphor scene that I hated. ugh.

Past two episodes really made it clear to me how I need something to happen to Na Jeong as a person. All of her scenes involve her trudging through the love triangle business. Does she not have school? What about the basketball obsession? Can she please just do something where it's just her?

Also smh at everyone on viki bashing Yoon Jin - her obsession is just the same as Shiwon's in 1997. Yeah she's a little crazy, and this is my opinion but I guess since I can relate to her, I don't find her to be getting on my nerves or anything like that (if this was football and not kpop because I go all out over football lol). LOVE LOVE LOVE SCP's dealing with her and finally the toilet stealing scene ahaha.

I just wish they kept it to 20 one hour long episodes, the pacing would be much quicker I doubt the damn love triangle would be drawn out like this. Just hoping now that they'll quickly decide who's endgame (yeah right) and move on with an actual plot. Loved Bing and Haitai's scenes!

Wow lol i didnt realize so many people are hating on trash and chilbong. Idk not everything is black and white and like what db said i didnt find the baseball analogy he told trash rude at all. I understood it as him saying his missed his chance now but if there ever is one in the future, he'll be able to grab on to it.

Idk if people stops obsessively focusing on who the husband is, maybe they'll be able to see the development of the characters. There are six more episodes left and so much can happen.

And i though the haitai storyline wasnt useless at all.

Besides the mystery husband drama. What do you guys think about Samchunpo? He has changed so much since we first met him. I wasn't even a fan of him then but he has changed so much. I am a 100% behind their relationship. I loved that Yoo Jin and him are changing each other for the better. Even though they still argue and can bring out the worst in each other they also bring out the best.

Their sickeningly cute relationship at first annoyed me but it started to grow on me when YJ would go back to her violent ways LOL (that so does not sound right but I hope you got what I meant). And in this episode, I really appreciated them as a couple. Samcheonpo really got me in the feels. I could just feel his frustration and pain for not being able to do anything, and his insecurity for feeling like he wasn't enough for YJ. I wanted to cry when I saw that he got the toilet for YJ. True love right there.

1) CB needs to sit down. I know he's already started to back off, but telling everyone that you still like the girl and will steal her whenever the opportunity presents itself is THE definition of NOT CUTE.
2) Be brave #TCB, it seems the writers are going to be playing with your hearts for the next 3 weeks.
3) OPPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NJ & T are really CUTE. I like that their both awkward and lovey-dovey. Although I get the whole "dating in secret" thing, I don't understand why it took MONTHS for them to come clean.
4) YAS @ SCP stealing a toilet for his girl.
5) The random cuz is JUST LIKE ME. Say random shit, and it happens to come true sometimes....
6) I miss Haiti, but at least he gets more screen time and story than BG....

P.s. Yes NJ isn't the most developed character EVER, but she's pretty solid as a Korean Female lead. She hasn't RANDOMLY fallen for a guy she hated. She's actually smart, has friends, and has a good relationship with her parents.

I know the show makes it seem like she's boy obsessed, but she's NOT. It took YEARS for her to get with Trash. In that time she didn't just stay in her room making out with his pic.

Basketball isn't in the show, because it was a TREND from 1994. The show is in 1996 now, she moved on (yes the writers could have written it out better).

AND YES, SHE IS THE MAIN CHARACTER OF HER SHOW. We know 5x more about her than any other character.

;A; Chilbong's probably coming off as desperate as this point in time and it's pretty off putting but I'm still kind of glad he's trying(?). Only in dramaland would I ever accept this tbh because I think it would be pretty creepy in real life. The najung/trash hug was really cute. lmao them reading Haetae's letter, I'm not sure whether to laugh at him or cry for him. LOL at the story of Trash's cousin. Oooo Kim Seulgi! I'm getting my hopes up after what she said about Najung liking him less now & the thing about her breaking up with Trash. omg at the apocalypse part. Chilbong's face when Yoonjin talked about Najung/Trash's kiss :(. All the Binggeurae/Chilbong scenes ;_; Najung worrying about Chilbong ;u; It's cute how she calls him Joon-ah. Oh Chilbong how is it you can still smile all this while. Najung's picture in the case! How could I forget?!

omg the Guest bag Yoonjin was carrying. SCP talking to Yoonjin's Seo Taiji poster was cute hah :3 oof The part with Binggeurae's family. I'm glad Dongwoo's making regular cameos. God these past few episodes are out to get my heart. All the sad scenes :(

I miss the mom/dad interactions so much, I'm so happy about the cute going on at the beginning. LOL at the trash/najung petty fight. How is it SCP/Yoonjin are still so cute when they're fighting? Chilbong running across the field to go home though, so cute. Trash & Chilbongie meeting up for one last time weep ;; The part about Seo Taiji & The Boys' retirement was hilar but for some reason I teared up at the same time lul. I'm glad to see the basketball portion making an appearance again. SCP bringing the toilet back & Yoonjin planting a plant in it omg. Not here for the lack of haetae omg.

i don't have such a huge issue with the show, it's clear people enjoy it and watch for it every week (although the ratings DID go down which shows a big issue which is probably the mystery~ of the husband and it's irritating) but it does have it's downfalls. a big one is the length, another is catering to the audience instead of keeping true to their intentions although i'm sure these writers will keep to what they want and not care so much abt the ratings as opposed to...MHIYD but it's frustrating that they're trying to hook people with this one bit, and also character development. i don't care about cb immensely, to me he was always second lead so his character being flat isn't such a huge problem since a lot of times that's how it goes. however, for NJ even though i adore her, because i think it's a little unfair to throw her character to the side because of writer's underdevelopment, all she is is her love with oppa as of now which wasn't completely the case b4 (a lesser extent the love triangle.)

they need to push independence onto her as in her own space, her own story, that can maybe meld with her relationships. like with yoon jin whose story this week was really funny but also really sad because she was like devastated lol and then her bf did something really wonderful and out of character for himself because of her. it's desperately needed and wouldn't be a detriment to the story.

i do think comparing this one to 97 though leaves a bit to be desired simply because shiwon didn't like anyone and that was probably the greatest for her because she could grow on her own, without her annoying best friend's feelings stifling her, move away from her parents and meet new people. so maybe that's where people are expecting more? but it's not the same and i do think it's unfair to pretend that she hasn't developed or she's boiled down to nothing or she has absolutely no depth. as far as comparisons go, i find her to be a bit more likeable than shiwon at times (less..impetuous.)

as for cb's entire existence idek. at this point it's even more pathetic than it was like 3 weeks ago. the idea that if she has no one by her side that she would come to him is also absurd because you cannot guarantee she will ever love him and so far she hasn't and doesn't want to. not that every man in this show is perfect, theyre not but this is very typical nice guy and if this were irl i would honest to god be livid that someone would go to my boyfriend and insinuate what.

because i think theyre also trying to keep it lighthearted oppa being weird in general is funny but it's kind of a lot but JW still is a great actor so i guess you take what you get.

anyway tho binggrae this week especially it was nice to see him with his family because he seems so lost, and it's hard to see someone who you simultaneously hate and love at the same time go through pain. and i love his brother lol he looks so dumb.

Bb Binggure, I teared up when his dad woke up from surgery, I'm sad that he's gonna cave in because of parental pressure and just forget his dream.

Haitai's army adventures had me rolling, I couldn't stop laughing at his superiors being so random. I'm glad we still see him and he has character development.

NJ never randomly kissed T, NJ feels were reciprocal (although she didn't know it), NJ rarely talked about T in a romantic way (there was relationship was 99% platonic until they officially started going out), NJ was never turned down so her love wasn't able to turn obsessive, and NJ NEVER WENT TO T GF A TOLD HER THAT SHE'S PLANNING ON BEING WITH T THE MOMENT HE'S FREE.

I didnt like this two episode, there's no development in najung and chilbong character while we see a lot of trash side story. As a chilbong's fan, im glad that he's going somewhere else and focus on baseball and can we get najung back to her basketball mania.

i haven't finished these episodes yet so i can't comment properly - but i'm really confused with some of the writer's decisions. i think it was really weird that we never saw the aftermath of chilbongie's confession at new year's or na jung's rejection of him. it also feels strange that we've ffw through the early stages of the na jung/trash relationship.

it also feels like we've spent too long on irrelevant stuff, the frustrating ~love triangle~ stuff that the writer keeps shoving down our throats. this isn't really a love triangle if she only sees chilbongie as a friend (which i think she does). i ship na jung/happiness but atm neither of these ships are working for me bc the writer is not developing either relationship properly. she is too focussed on messing with us to the detriment of character + relationship development/a coherent narrative. idgi.

I spent a episode wondering when she would tell (at least YJ) someone about his confession. It was like it didn't happen. Nothing changed. There were a few moment s where I thought she would be at least awkward, but nope.

I feel like CB has to b the husband, because why would the writers cheat us of cute first love (at least from NJ side)? I'm trying to write it off as "they were a secret relationship" and now the cute will come since they're public.
