Jung Woo talks about co-stars' acting in CeCi interview

Actor Jung Woo transformed into a handsome and charming gentleman with a playful twist that is reminiscent of his “Reply 1994” character, “Trash.”

Jung Woo recently posed for fashion magazine, “CeCi,” which has revealed a couple of cuts on November 19. The photos show Jung Woo dressed up in outfits such as checkered loungewear, posing in a nineties-esque home. Another photo shows Jung Woo holding up a bag of chips, which starkly contrasts his trendy and fashionable outfit.

After the shoot, Jung Woo, who has been acting for over 13 years, shared his thoughts on his co-stars and their acting.

“I think Go Ara‘s acting skills have been overlooked by her pretty looks in her past projects. She really seems like she’s acting like her life depends on it. Part of me thinks she should do this more comfortably but on the other hand, I know that it’s not easy to let go of the pressure. It’s so good to see her trying her best so I really want to applaud her,” he said as he praised his leading lady co-star.

On Yoo Yeon Seok, Jung Woo mentioned, “Chilbongie (Yoo Yeon Seok) has a superior sense and technique for acting. He knows exactly what to do and how to do it.”

“Bingeurae (Baro) and Yoon Jin (Dohee) both act pure-heartedly and with instinct. It’s so good to see them acting not with their heads but with their hearts,” he said.

Lastly, Jung Woo mentioned, “Haitai (Son Ho Joon) and I worked together in the past for the 2008 SeeYa music video for ‘That Person‘ as well as the film ‘Wish.’ Every time I meet him, I can see that his acting skills get better and better. As for Samcheonpo (Kim Sung Kyun), who is the same age as me, he is a really kind and pure-hearted friend. He is an expert on acting so I learn a lot from him.”

CeCi magazine’s editor Park So Hyun commented, “All throughout the photo shoot and interview, Jung Woo was honest and sincere, just like his character in ‘Reply 1994.’”

A video of actor Yoo Yeon Seok, familiar to many as Chilbong on “Reply 1994,” is receiving much interest for his performance at a wedding.

On November 26, a video titled, “Yoo Yeon Seok Sings and Plays the Piano at a Wedding” was uploaded on an online community page.

Last year, the actor attended the wedding of a person affiliated with his agency and performed a song to congratulate the couple. It has also been revealed that actor Lee Dong Wook was the MC at the wedding.

In the video, Yoo Yeon Seok sings Lee Sung Gi’s “Will You Marry Me” while playing the piano. The video caught the attention of many female fans, and many netizens praised the actor on his musical talent.

'Reply 1994' director states extension is still undecided

When a drama reaches a certain level of popularity and ratings, the question of an extension always comes up. TvN’s hit drama “Reply 1994” is no exception. With ratings that go higher and higher each episode and the “Reply 1994″ fever taking over the media and TV audience, the question of an extension is on the tip of everyone’s tongues. The director of “Reply 1994,” PD Shin Won Ho, responded to that question recently, but with an answer that only adds fuel to the fire.

In a phone call with Star News, director Shin Won Ho stated, in regards to an extension of the 20-episode drama, “Nothing has been decided yet.” His answer was not a definite no, nor a definite yes, leaving those who want more of Trash oppa and Chilbong unsatisfied.

There are many factors to consider when debating the question of an extension. First is the schedule and the health of the cast. While in the beginning, filming occurred at a leisurely schedule, now, as the scripts are being reported as coming out later and later, the shooting schedule is too hectic and tight for the cast to be able to rest. Second is the pacing of the drama since each episode of “Reply 1994″ revolves around a theme, and forcing new themes and plotlines might drag the story.

What do you think, drama fans? Do you want an extension for “Reply 1994″? Do you think there is enough story for an extension? Is more of Trash oppa, Chilbong, Samcheonpo, Haitai, Binggeurae, Na Jung, and Yoon Jin all you want?

Although the real variety show “Nunas Over Flowers” is schedule to air after “Reply 1994″ finishes it run, starting December 29, tvN reps also teased, “We can be flexible as long as the production team [of "Reply 1994"] wants it.”

Kim Yoo Mi acknowledges dating Jung Woo & opens up about relationship

Actress Kim Yoo Mi has acknowledged her dating Jung Woo and slightly opened up about their relationship on “Radio Star.”

Kim Yoo Mi along with actor Jung Joon, comedian Jo Sae Ho and singer Navi were guests on “Radio Star” on November 27.

During the episode, Kim Yoo Mi said, “I am receiving a lot of uncomfortable questions about my love life. But honestly, Jung Woo is an actor and I am an actress too so I am being very cautious.”

She continued, “I am keeping etiquette since the drama he is starring in is very popular and I’m afraid that I would interfere with the fans who are immersed in the drama,” as she rejected the MCs request for her to leave a video message to Jung Woo.

MC Kim Gura jokingly replied, “These days, Yoo Yeon Seok‘s parts are increasing and the Samchunpo couple’s parts are increasing too. Jung Woo’s parts have slightly decreased.”

Kim Yoo Mi also revealed that Jung Woo was the one who asked her out first while they were working together on a film. Lastly, Kim Yoo Mi confessed that she was a fan of “Reply 1994” by saying she watches the show every week.

Meanwhile, Kim Yoo Mi and Jung Woo were reported to be dating earlier this month. Some reports even stated that the two have already made marriage plans, which the couple later denied. The couple also met some drama due to Jung Woo’s ex-girlfriend, Kim Jin. This caused Jung Woo to fall ill due to the stress.

Director of 'Old Boy' regrets not treating Yoo Yeon Seok better

Celebrating ten years since the release of the world renowned film Old Boy, director Park Chan Wook talked about Yoo Yeon Seok, who is currently rising in popularity.

On November 21, director Park Chan Wook participated in a re-release of Old Boy at the CGV theaters located in Youngdeungpo.

He talked about the overwhelming emotion of watching Old Boy after 10 years and shared his experiences at the Cannes Film Festival with the movie.

The director also mentioned Yoo Yeon Seok, whose fame is currently rising with tvN’s Reply 1994. Yoo Yeon Seok acted in Old Boy as Yoo Ji Tae’s child actor.

“These days, I think If I knew he was going to be this successful, I would have been nicer and given him closer shots.”

On casting Yoo Yeon Seok, Park Chan Wook said he needed to find an actor who looked like Yoo Ji Tae, but reassured he didn’t just cast him because of his looks. “He’s very good at acting. When we were filming the scene in the chemistry room with Yoon Ji Seo, I was worried that it might be hard for a rookie actor to do, but after he worried a bit, he tried very hard and created that scene.”

He later bought the actors a drink and praised them for their excellent acting.

Meanwhile, the re-release of Old Boy came out on November 21.

Son Ho Jun: Being Cast in 'Reply 1994' was good luck

Actor Son HoJun is now starring in tvN's Answer Me 1994 that is directed by Shin WonHo PD and Writer Lee WooJeong. He states that he was casted as the the young Haitai from the Jeolla province who has an honest and loyal nature that many viewers are loving.

Answer Me 1994 is the turning point for Son Hojun, the name Son Hojun has been gaining stamp from viewers. Son Hojun said,  "I went to other drama classes and talked with the person in charge of Answer Me 1994  casting. At that time I was told that they are looking for an actor from Gyeongsang-do. I wanted to do the show and came to audition to challenged the dialect "

He was in the movie 'Wish' with Jung Woo and was one of the characters who entered the gang circle. Son Hojun: Gyeongsangdo was the dialect they were looking for and Shin Won Ho PD saw the movie 'Wish' and saw me in Jeolla dialect and thought I would be a possible cast. I saw Answer me 1997, and was impressed by the Jeolla province dialect

Why did take 10 years for Go Ara's talent to be recognized?

Article: 10 years after 'Banollim'... why did it take so long for Go Ara to receive a 'reply' from the viewers?

Source: Newsen via Nate

1. [+493, -35] Being under SM was a detriment to her car. Because of SM being known for their crappy acting, she was stereotyped and buried under that. She worked hard on a lot of different projects but never got any recognition for them.. I hope she gets popular through this opportunity.

2. [+394, -30] Really, it was through this drama that I saw her in a new light;; She's so good at acting and she's not even playing the stereotypical female lead where all you have to do is sit around in luxury brands and look pretty...... She's pretty just as she is.

3. [+355, -28] I think it's that she was always a good actress, just that she never landed the right project

4. [+47, -5] She's a hundred times better than labelmate Lee Yeon Hee, I really don't know why she hasn't received her shining moment until now

5. [+28, -4] I remember reading a movie director talk about Go Ara and he said that despite her pretty looks, she'll do whatever you tell her to and that she was bound for success.

6. [+27, -4] As someone who never missed an episode of 'Banollim' and 'Banollim 2', I can see similarities between 'Najung' and 'Oklim'... I think that's why Go Ara hasn't been able to receive attention since 'Oklim' until she landed 'Najung' again. I'm worried that she's going to enter into another slump after this drama or that she'll never be able to escape the 'Najung' character image for the next decade. I personally wish her the best.

7. [+12, -2] The careers of actors are decided 60~70% by the projects they choose. The remaining 30~40% is their acting talent. The actors who choose the right projects have longer running careers than actors who are simply good at acting.

8. [+11, -4] She never lucked out on her projects

No to an extension, the episodes are already too long lol. (Answer to the Go Ara question/mini rant: majority of drama fans/watchers (who comment on the internet) are more critical of actresses than they are of actors, especially pretty ones, like how actresses consistently outact their male counterparts, yet it's rarely acknowledged. She's not some great thespian, but she's not bad. Plus her choice of projects didn't help.)

If anyone can translate this article, I think it's saying that the egg scene was an ad-lib by Go Ara - which explains why Chilbong's reaction reminded me of his variety show appearances, and why she said "who put raw eggs here?" lol. Also there are random spoilers floating around everywhere, at this rate the husband will probably be spoiled before he's revealed in the show - and the script is apparently completed already.

this drama and this cast is fucking perfect and flawless.

but is saddens me so much that out of all the cast, ahra is the most overlooked and less appreciated when she is so amazing on it, she is always on najung mood even when she isn’t in the scene and is just in the background.

This truth right here. One of the best cast ensembles I've seen in a drama.

And definitely agree about Go Ara. A lot of people, including myself, get so caught up on the mystery of who the husband is so all the attention is directed to the main guys while Na jeong and Go Ara by extension are neglected. But yes, she's not given enough credit on her performance. I'm surprised by how dynamic her facial expressions can be. I've only seen her in that drama with YunHo and she was serviceable but nothing special.I'm glad she was able to tap into her potential in Reply 1994 because she is slaaaaaaying it and I can't imagine anyone else playing Na jeong because she was practically born for that role. It also never fails to surprise just how gorgeous she is out of her Na Jeong getup haha

Yoo Yeonseok is perfect. I'm so glad that Son Hojun was casted because Haetae is one of my favourite charactaers in 94'. I still haven't gotten over the egg scene and no wonder it looked so real. No to the extensions though, I think the current number of episodes is enough

Hai Tai/Son Hojun, I looooooove youuuuuuu!

The fact that he's BFF's with Yunho in real life just adds on to the reason why I like Hai Tai. I can imagine all their satoori-filled conversations. LOL

20 almost 90 minute long episodes are enough, please don't extend it.

The egg scene felt like a cut from a blooper reel, it was adorable. And gross.

I don't want an extension because it'll probably mean adding on to a plot arc of making a new one just to fill up screen time. TELL US WHO FREAKING KIM JAE JOON IS ALREADY. And LOL the last episode was an hour and a half long. My attention span can only tolerate as much.

Yes to Go Ara finally getting noticed for more than her pretty face.

i don't want an extension because I feel it would drag the storyline even more.

I would be sad when the drama ends but an extension would be unnecessary. I'd love an SP, though. A couple months after the drama ends. Like maybe an episode to catch up with the other characters' lives.

YASYASYAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!
I need more time, I'm already fearing the withdrawal (I barely made it through last week, DAMN the MAMAs).

P.s. lol @ EVERYONE dreading an extension. Have faith! 1994 was able to jump to spring of 1995 within the span of zero seconds. I'm sure the extension would only mean the show continuing on until the end of uni (aka 98).

It's not the time jump itself though. Reply 1997 went from 1997-1999 (I think) then 2005 then 2012. It's when writers add unnecessary conflicts or whatever to a plot line just to make the story longer that people don't want an extension for.

But whatever, we could all do with more Chilbong. LOL

I love this show so much. <3 <3 <3

So the whole thing is everyone shares the "jun" element, right? And the husband's name is Jae-Jun. Trash Oppa's brother's name is Jae-Something (I can't remember, hyung or something?). Wouldn't that make the "Jae" the generational name element shared between brothers? Or am I completely off on this?

Ah, I see. Sometimes I pay attention accurately and sometimes I miss things because I get distracted. >.> I've always been bad at puzzles, and trying to keep track of a puzzle using a cultural background I didn't grow up in is very difficult.

Thanks for explaining. :D

"more critical of actresses than they are of actors, especially pretty ones, like how actresses consistently outact their male counterparts, yet it's rarely acknowledged."

Basically this. It's what I feel too.

The egg scene was an ad-lib? That makes sense. I thought the scene was a little awkward. It would explain why I felt that way. I'm okay with an extension. I don't find the drama that long oddly enough. I like that because episodes are longer, there's a lot more to delve into and get across.

Extension?

Chilbongie is not amused and doesn't approve.

Come on now we don't need an extension because it'll cause the revealation on who's the husband to be dragged on. Unless they reveal the husband early and then the extended episodes explore how sexy Chilbongie can be as the husband, ehmmm, maybe I'll consider. lmao.

Nooo to the extension please! This is the one drama that really doesn't need it, especially with the whole husband mystery. I just need to know that it's Chilbongie who it is already so I can re-watch it again and focus less on the romance and more on the other aspects and appreciate this great show as a whole.

But I love this cast ensemble. I do think it's going to be awhile to find another gem of a drama such as this, especially since the writer and PD aren't planning to do another Reply series. It'd be cool if they could do Reply 2000 lol.

and i don't think i want extension as much as i'm gonna be sad once it ends

this cast is flawless. even the choice of keeping the same actor for the parents - which i thought was akward in the begining - was on point.

i loved reply 1997, but i´m enjoying 1994 more. i think it´s because their ages - and conflicts/questions - are closer to mine. i can´t relate with high school scene anymore.

Extensions are made just to make money, not to improve the quality of a show. Most of the time they are detrimental, ruining what could have been a tightly written story. The issue with shows like this one, where the entire plot revolves around who the husband is, an extension will only make the audience less forgiving for being trolled for so long.

Oh, and the Nate article (http://news.nate.com/view/20131126n12842?mid=n1008) says that it is unclear whether or not the entire egg scene was ad libbed or if it was the dialogue after. At least that's what my husband says. He won't translate the entire thing because he's lazy.... >>
