The latest updates on the propofol case for Park Shi Yeon, Lee Seung Yeon and Jang Mi In Ae states that the three actresses were found guilty of drug abuse and have been sentenced to eight months of imprisonment, two years of probation and a penalty fine.

On November 25, a hearing was held in the Seoul District Court where Park Shi Yeon, Lee Seung Yeon, Jang Mi In Ae and two doctors attended.

After being indicted for propofol abuse in March, the three actresses attended several hearings, denying the claims of propofol abuse and addiction, stating that the injections were for medicinal purposes.

The actresses as well as the doctors were ruled to be guilty as the judge stated that he finds the actresses dependent on the drug.

The judge also went on to say that since they are celebrities and have a great influence on the public, they should be even more law-abiding and exemplary citizens instead of breaking the law. He also commented that the actresses gave great disappointment to the public. The judge also commented that he decided on imprisonment further because of how the actresses kept denying the claims.

The judge also mentioned that he also considered the fact that the actresses did not inject the drug themselves and also the fact that Lee Seung Yeon and Park Shi Yeon have young children to look after, when he was assessing the weight of their sentence.

This resulted in the actresses to be sentenced to eight months of prison, two years of probation and around $5,500 for Jang Mi In Ae, $4,050 for Lee Seung Yeon and $3,700 for Park Shi Yeon in fines.

i think 2 yrs probation means she doesnt exactly go to jail. (kinda always is with korea probation > actual jail sentence)

I agree it's really sad, but on the other hand at least she won't be a drug addicted mom for the next who knows how long! Lesser of the two evils =/?

i'm really concerned about the baby tbh. conceived under propofol abuse + high stress, then living her first year w/o nutrition from her mum... :(

Woah, this really surprised cause I know both Park Shi Yeon & Jang Mi In Ae.
It's really sad that they got addicted to using drugs.. I didn't even suspect anything.
This article really left me dumbfounded.

Can I just saw how fucked up it is that the fact that they're celebrities factors AT ALL into their sentence.... like they should be punished according to the nature of their crime. Period. Making them fucking examples for the "general public" makes me shudder tbh - sometimes the Korean justice system is downright terrifying

This. I can't help but wonder if they really looked at these three actresses cases from a medical standpoint or did they just see a chance to use them as "examples" to the public?

Korea's justice system has so much growing up to do.

It's really frustrating

It's like how Daesung was investigated way more in depth than a normal person would have been because the Police said they didn't want to be accused of favoritism...how about you just treat everyone equally under the law?

But, if they're addicted why imprison them... Why not send them to rehab... It's not like they were dealers.

Korea will forever confuse me.

thank you. and it bums me out that this addiction would not have happened if they weren't pressured to ger plastic surgery (female actresses are pressured to look 18 forever).

damned if you do, damned if you don't

Why does their job play into the decision regarding their sentence? What mess is this.
I thought drug addicts were sentenced to rehab. Not prison. I guess korea is different.

Have the doctors who were giving out the drug been sentenced yet? Really curious to see how the sentences of the pushers compare to the users.

Imprisoning drug addicts seems like a total waste. A combo of treatment, community service, and fines seems more appropriate.

This is fucked as shit, seeing as these judges clearly slap the "celebrity" thing willy nilly -- all those celebrity DUIs didn't result in jail sentences, just slaps on the wrist, when those could've potentially put other people in harm's way. I vaguely feel like because all those charged are female celebrities, the onus was placed on them harder to "be responsible" >:\

'The judge also went on to say that since they are celebrities and have a great influence on the public, they should be even more law-abiding and exemplary citizens instead of breaking the law'

Not sure whether my comprehension skill is low but I would say that they receive the sentence because they are celebrities. What?? Are they trying to make example from them? They need to be in rehab, not in prison imho...

That's what i got too. Heavier sentence because they should have been living exemplary lives because they're celebs.
Too bad netizens think they got off easy since they're celebs.
