2NE1′s New Song “Missing You”, Beautiful Melody and Deep Emotional Exposure
Girlgroup 2NE1 (CL, Park Bom, Minji, Sandara Park) stuns with a striking comeback concept, a sad ballad with an emotional music video.
On the 21st, 2NE1’s new single ‘’Missing You’’ was released through various music sites at exactly 00:00AM KST. While it was released, YG Entertainment’s official blog also revealed the MV for ‘’Missing You’’.
The song was produced by YG’s very own Teddy who composed the song and wrote the lyrics. The dreamy ballad conveys a dark yet lyrical side, a song conveying many emotions. The chorus has the repetitive ‘’Missing You’’ lyrics, something addictive to the ears. The lyrics are like what the title captures, about past loves they miss.
While the ears caught the addictive song, the eyes caught the colourful artistic music video in which each member showed off their emotional acting. CL also drew lots of attention with her nude scene where she showed exceptional acting. CL showed off a mysterious look with her two nude scenes that show a women’s outward beauty and inner well-expressed sorrow.
Meanwhile 2NE1 has been killing charts with ‘’Missing You’’, topping Korea’s biggest charts within hours of release.
2NE1 also recently left for Hong Kong where they’ll attend ‘’Mnet Asian Music Awards 2013 (MAMA)’’ and showcase the first stage for ‘’Missing You’’. The popular girlgroup also recently revealed their plans for a world tour starting March 2014 in Seoul following Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Japan.
2NE1’s Dara Park, “Hope many share the feelings by listening…” new song speech
Girl group 2NE1 member Dara Park's speech regarding the new song 'Missing You’.
On the morning of the 21st, Dara park shared her feelings through the 2NE1 official line, "My heart is fluttering with the new song’s stage which I have to focus on the song instead of jumping around the stage enjoying as usual. When I was rehearsing I was moved.”
She added “I am happy to share this feelings with blackjacks. Hope many listens to this song and share this feeling with me.”
Also she claimed, “Members were up all night coming to Hong Kong. They must be tired. Let’s sleep now. All did well. Let’s nail ‘Missing You’ first stage in MAMA the day after tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, the new song sound source and music video was released on this day at midnight. They will be appearing in 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards held on 22 Hong Kong. 2NE1 will be starting their Korean promotion afterwards, and in March next year, starting in Seoul, they will be engaging with world wide fans in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thai and so on.
The K-pop quartet return at their most vulnerable yet
2NE1 has caught the attention of both the East and West with forward-thinking music, fierce fashion and carefree attitudes. But the K-pop girl group is showcasing their most vulnerable and mature side yet in new single “Missing You,” which brings surprises in the song composition and video.
Opening with subtle bass and guitar plucks — recalling productions by The xx — the first verse adds in bubble pops, hip-hop shouting and woozy harmonies over a swelling electro-pop production. But soon, soft piano chords get thrown into the mix, growing louder with each measure before listeners find themselves at an acoustic chorus featuring piano pounding and guitar strumming, letting the vocals shine.
2NE1’s singles from earlier this year "Falling in Love" and "Do You Love Me?" — both of which found big success on the K-Pop Hot 100, peaking at No. 2 — were crafted around catchy, repetitive choruses. But “Missing You” is just a striking, perhaps more so, even without a simple hook.
The music video also shows a softer different side for the group — particularly leader CL. Dressed in fashionable, at times witch-like, winter gear, the girls spend most of the video on the verge of tears singing the heartbreakingly bitter lyrics. The video’s talking point is undoubtedly when CL goes nude for a daring naked scene during the second chorus. The rapper/singer wistfully sits in a room of deteriorating cement, covering herself with only her arms and legs.
Look out for haters to call out the comparisons from Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” but CL does sad and naked with way more class.
It’s not the first time 2NE1’s done sad for a single (see "Lonely" and "Ugly"), but it’s certainly a standout moment as the music, vocals and visuals are convincing of the group’s maturation.
In February, CL first told Billboard about the track, saying, “I was really connected to that song because I was missing my fans and the stage. I love that song. I know people will love it." Look out for it to make a splash on the K-Pop Hot 100 this week or next.
Despite 2NE1’s label initially promising a single every month until an October album release, 2NE1 fell silent after the August release of “Do You Love Me?” But apparently moving right along, the group has revealed plans for a new world tour in 2014, announcing the Asia stops today. Member Dara added, “Wherever Blackjack fans are is a reason for us to visit. So, foreign promoters, give us a call.”
2NE1 was and still is the only K-pop girl group to hold an arena tour in the U.S. after two concerts in summer of 2012.
2NE1’s ‘Missing You’ Sweeps No.1 Places in Real-Time Music Charts!
2NE1’s new single 'MISSING YOU' is creating sensation, sweeping No.1 on the charts of Korean music web-sites.
2NE1’s 'MISSING YOU' has been in the top places in all of the nine music-streaming sites in Korea: Melon, Mnet, Bugs, Olleh, Cyworld, Daum, Naver, Genie, and Monkey (Editor’s Note they are now also #1 on Soribada), upon being released at midnight on the 20 this month. Notably, it has shown a strong momentum by “piercing the roof” upon being released, which means, setting the new highest record in Melon’s chart tracking the volume of use of music for 24 hours.
'MISSING YOU', the third song that 2NE1 released this year following 'FALLING IN LOVE' and 'DO YOU LOVE ME', is a winter song with full emotions that highlight balanced harmony between the four members. The ballad song catches ears with its full sound created without use of drum beat or bass, where a synth sound based on low bass and rock-ballad piano are at the center of the sound. 2NE1 adds up to the song’s sorrowful atmosphere by their soulful and appealing vocal, and especially, the repeated phrase “missing you” in high pitch in the climax of the song leaves a strong resound.
The music video that was released with the song is also drawing much attention. The music video of 'MISSING YOU' gives off a calm and dreamy feel, with mystical and beautiful visual. It begins with an image of 2NE1 in falling snow and expresses the sorrow of breakup and feeling of missing somebody, in a tender soul.
In addition, the four members are expressing the feel of the song, by facial expression acting of loneliness. Notably, CL, who has come under spotlight as she is known to present revealing performance, is catching eyes by giving off a new charm which is quite different from her past charismatic style. CL is showing her tattoo in her back, in a bathtub surrounded with thick vapor. In the next scene, she acts undressed, sitting crouched with her black hair falling down.
CL’s nude performance creates a synergy in the part where phrase “missing you” are densely repeated, to drive the internal sorrow to the climax.
YG Entertainment says, “CL, a woman of full confidence, has tried a bold nude performance in the music video of 2NE1’s new singe. CL’s nude scene gives rather a mystical feel like art photography than sex appeal, which expresses external beauty and internal sorrow of a woman mingled together.”
Toward the new single 'MISSING YOU' and its music video, fans are saying, “They’ve live up to my expectations”, “It’s the right song to listen to in the winter”, “I’m impressed by the soulful voice”, and so on.
Meanwhile, 2NE1 kicks off their performances for new song 'MISSING YOU', and will meet their fans around the world from next March, in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan.
Plus, 2NE1 is staging the first performance of 'MISSING YOU' at 'Mnet Asian Music Awards'.
