This October 9th, Omona(어머나) will be commemorating the invention of the Korean alphabet with a sponsored give-away!
If you are somewhat new to Korean culture you might be asking "what is Hangul?"
Hangul(한글) is the native alphabet of the Korean Language. It is also known as Chosongul(조선글) in North Korea. It was created during the Joseon Dynasty by King Sejong the Great in 1443! It is now the official script of both South Korea and North Korea, and co-official in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture of China's Jilin Province.

What is your favorite(좋아하는) word or phrase in Korean? It's not exactly a word or a phrase but the whole concept of kinship vocabulary is very interesting to me because it allows you to explicitly indicate intimacy or closeness with people who aren't necessarily members of your family or your significant other.
How are you most exposed to the Korean language(한국어)? (ex. dramas/music/friends...) I got into k-pop two years ago because my friends were in a hallyu dance show, and since I'm fascinated by language and I'm a sociology student I was compelled to learn about the cultural context of the fandom and the language is obviously a huge part of that.
Have you ever traveled(여행을 갔다)to Korea or plan to visit? Yes! This summer I visited my best friend who was studying there, and I plan on going back next fall for a semester through my university's exchange program.
What language(s)(언어) do you speak? English, French, rusty but still mostly fluent Hebrew, and basic Yiddish and German. I've just begun learning Korean through borrowed books but it's hard without guided help.
What languages would you like to learn(배우다) or get better at? Korean, and I'd like to revive my Hebrew. In general I plan on learning more languages as time goes on, though. I'm going to do a graduate degree in linguistics when I finish my BA in Sociology.

What is your favorite(좋아하는) word or phrase in Korean? "obseo". because when i went to seoul, i had difficulties to communicate to an ajussi who serves in the restaurant. but after a few times coming to that restaurant, we learned what "obseo" means, it stuck ever since and we use it mixed with english to explain something that is not there (maybe it's a wrong usage for the word but yeah.. ahaha)

What is your favorite(좋아하는) word or phrase in Korean?: 살아있네~! I like how the phrase became modernized slang into Korean, all influenced by a movie, I believe. I admit it's just one of those things that is difficult to comprehend unless you witness it being used in a show or something. Like, if I were to teach this phrase to anyone, I'd show them a video clip of it being used in a situation. It has a fun meaning behind it with the fascinating Busan accent behind it. I've also seen many idols/stars use the phrase.
How are you most exposed to the Korean language(한국어)?: Definitely through music. There's also dramas and variety shows, which help a lot since it's everyday, conversational speech.
Have you ever traveled(여행을 갔다)to Korea or plan to visit?: Ever since I've gotten myself into the kpop fandom, I've been wanting to visit South Korea. Korean culture has always been a big interest to me and helped me gain a willingness to understand cultures outside my own more easily, but I'd like to experience it all firsthand.
What language(s)(언어) do you speak?: Mandarin (though not fluently) and Viet (sort of; my accent is weird)
What languages would you like to learn(배우다) or get better at?: I'd love to improve my Korean skills. I'm no beginner, but I'm also not at the stage where I'd be considered at the advanced level. I learned Mandarin for four years, so I couldn't work on Korean too much at the same time. However, I want to commit my time with learning Korean more now, which will take a lot of diligence and enthusiasm that I'm willing to give.

What is your favorite(좋아하는) word or phrase in Korean? 엄친아/엄마 친구 아들, haha.
How are you most exposed to the Korean language(한국어)? (ex. dramas/music/friends...) Music + varieties/occasional dramas + a couple of exchange students!
Have you ever traveled(여행을 갔다)to Korea or plan to visit? Planning to, possibly even study abroad next year!
What language(s)(언어) do you speak? English, Konkani, intermediate French
What languages would you like to learn(배우다) or get better at? Korean, Japanese, maybe a little Mandarin as well. I can read Hangul well and I know basic-moderate Korean, but I'm much better at understanding than I am at forming it myself and speaking. I'd like to properly learn it (instead of picking up bits and pieces) because it's really very elegant, speaking linguistically. In a couple of years I'll be doing research into languages, and I may have the chance to pick Korean if I know it well enough by then!
---
So far I've been picking Korean up by actually listening to what people say/sing and comparing it to the translations, the same way I did for Japanese. It's not the fastest or most efficient way, but once you get started and you get past the curve it's actually a really good way (for me at least, since it's like one big puzzle).

What is your favorite(좋아하는) word or phrase in Korean? I have mastered the phrase "I love you" (saranghae) in Korean. It was one of the first words I've learned. If I had to choose another, it would be all forms of "no".
How are you most exposed to the Korean language(한국어)? (ex. dramas/music/friends...) I am most exposed to the Korean language through music and dramas. There are terms and words that are used a lot, such as alone, I love you, I hate you, pain, hurt, girlfriend, boyfriend, like, things like that. You start to notice often them when reading english subtitles.
Have you ever traveled(여행을 갔다)to Korea or plan to visit? I haven't been to Korea, but I'd love to go if I ever had the opportunity.
What language(s)(언어) do you speak? I currently speak fluent English, and that is mostly it. My knowledge of Spanish is from high school classes a LONG time ago, haha, it's very broken. My knowledge of Korean is much better than my Spanish. I can read it and pronounce it better (even though my accent is weird, lol).
What languages would you like to learn(배우다) or get better at? I'd love to learn Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
