Ladies Code made a lovely visit for an interview with the KPOPPlanet Team on Sept 6. As we greeted them, they brightened up the room with their colorful outfits and sweet smiles. As we congratulated them with their new look and the new album, they also congratulated us back on the launch of the KPOPPlanet!

From the beginning to the end, the interview was filled with positive energy and contagious laughter with their polite and bubbly personalities.

Q. Your thoughts on your comeback?
(Sojung) We’re returning after many months of inactivity; in fact, months more than we had planned for. So, we’re going to give our fans our best to make up for the lost time.
(Ashley) We were originally going to comeback in June, but we couldn’t because Zuny’s knee went bad. However, I do think we spent the two months well; it wasn’t time wasted. We prepared more and trained more, so you can expect a great showing.
(RiSe) While many people liked our song we were unable to raise awareness of us. That is, many people would recognize the song and its name, but they couldn’t say whose song it was. So this comeback is a chance to raise awareness of us among the public.

Q. Were you satisfied with your previous album?
(EunB) We had a successful finish and that was great. But, like Rise just said, people knew the song, but didn’t know who sang it, and they would misspell our name, too. Instead of Ladies’ Code, they would write Lady Code or Race Code.

Q. Did you go overseas last time?
(EunB) No. Not once! We wanted to and daydreamed of doing so, but we didn’t actually go. We do have fans in France, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, etc., and found fanclubs—Ashely speaks Spanish, she learned it as a second language in the US.
(RiSe) We want to go, but…for now we’re focusing on Korea to strengthen our base of operations here.
Manager: We did get some offers from festivals and such from, say, Mongolia but our schedule was busy and Zuny was hurt, so we had to turn down the offers.

Q. Would you like to say something to your fans abroad?
(Ashely) Hola todos! Ladies codes somos aqui con nuestro cancion nuevo, “Pretty Pretty”! Por favor apoyen y amen nuestro cancion! muchas gracias~.
(Translated: Hello everyone! Ladies codes are here with our new song, “Pretty Pretty”! Please support and love our song! thank you very much ~.)

Q. Did you spend some time resting, since your comeback was delayed by two months?
(Sojung) No, we had no time. You see, when Zuny’s knee went bad we were told there would be a two week delay. So we were like, ‘We can’t rest—it’s only two weeks—so let’s train even more…’ Then we were told there would be another two week delay, and we were like ‘We can’t rest—it’s only another two weeks—so let’s train even more…’ again and again, and we ended up spending the two months training without end.
(Ashely) We did take some time off to go eye-shopping at the stores around Sungshin Women’s University. Our home is near there.

Q. What do you do at home?
(Ashley) These days we spend a lot of time sleeping. But we also cook, watch movies, and put manicure on each other.
(EunB) We don’t have computers or smart phones, so we found replacements for them.
(RiSe) And we see movies at home since we can’t go to the theater.
(Ashely) The role of cook goes around. We just volunteer, like, ‘I want to be the cook today.’
(Sojung) However, we can’t cook something good, something tasty I mean, because what we know are mostly fatty foods. Our manager lives with us and makes sure to keep a close eye on what we are doing. (Laughing)

Q. Now, tell me a little something about your title song, please.
(Zuny) The concept is boldness. You can see in the album pictures that we’re ugly, but we’re also happy and accepting of that ugliness. So the moral is being confidence in ourselves and love for ourselves will give us the strength to not be encumbered by our ugliness. (Smiling while trying to make a confident face expression)
(Ashley) The genre of our song appears to be retro, but it’s actually funky disco. The rhythm is bright and exciting and the song is light-hearted.
(Sojung) I usually dislike dance songs, but I did like this one.
(Ashley) There’s a part where Sojung suddenly sings solo with soul music and ad-libs for a minute or so.
(EunB) I like our new song and I liked our previous song, but our new one fits especially well with my preference for a bright atmosphere. The previous song was darker and heavier.
(Zuny) I like our new song better than our previous one.

Q. The clothes you’re wearing are brighter. Any comments about that?
(Ashley) We’re wearing colorful clothes and have on colorful makeup because it fits with our new song. The bright colors help us feel better and smile more easily when training, and we dance more easily and skillfully when we’re feeling good.

Q. Do you think you are any more skilled than before?
(Sojung) Well, yes. It took us less time to complete the recording, even though this song is longer and more complicated than our previous one. Also, we learned the choreography faster.
Q. What do you think about your teamwork?
(RiSe) Our teamwork did get better because we’ve had longer to get to know each other. We’re past cultural differences and differences in eating habits now. In fact, our likes and dislikes in food are similar now.
(EunB) I think our unnis (older sisters) did very well in this aspect. They brought up difficult subjects first so we juniors could talk about it freely.

Q. Do you have anything to say about Super Changddai?
(Ashley) Mr. Changddai was the composer, the songwriter, and the arranger for us. He told us he made the title song with us constantly in his thoughts and he gave tailor-made roles to each of us.
(RiSe) Mr. Changddai said, “I was happiest when making your song,” so we felt his love for us.

Q. What do you think about your choreography?
(Ashely) I think it was great. It has lots of hand movements and pelvis movements because it is funky. And you know how sometimes beautiful women are said to have an ‘aura’ around them? That’s why the male backup dancers behind us are waving their hands. It’s to form an ‘aura’ behind us.

Q. What is your goal this time around?
(RiSe) Our goal is to raise awareness of us overseas. That’s the most important. We’d also like to go to the MAMA Awards in person, instead of watching it on TV.

Q. By the way RiSe, you’re doing some diving these days, right? Wasn’t it hard?
(RiSe) Yes, but it was fun.
(EunB) We saw the bruises she got. (Looking at RiSe)
(RiSe) Zuny packed lunches for me. (Smiling brightly)

Q. I see that “Pretty Pretty” is quite different from “Hate You”. Anything to say about that?
(Sojung) “Pretty Pretty” is supposed to be different. “Hate You” was a dark and it was a horror song, meaning it didn’t fit with the brighter atmosphere of “Pretty Pretty”, but it was too good to throw away so we put it out first.
