Excited about the Yiruma collab (the tribute is forgettable), and I really liked that IS2 performance, I couldn't help but add it to the post even though I'm not familiar with this show. By the way, there's a bonus: EXO doing faces during Ailee's performance, for those interested.

Date: 2013-09-14 07:52 pm (UTC)I first saw the Yiruma collab on AllKPop so I checked the source (ugh they're not linking ANYTHING) and other information. But I wasn't found of this remix so I'm not sure I'll take a look at the others...

Date: 2013-09-14 09:33 pm (UTC)I want her to release more songs, still. Two minis are just really few.

Date: 2013-09-15 03:42 am (UTC)her performances never cease to amaze me.

Date: 2013-09-15 10:06 am (UTC)Of course she still have a lot to work on, but that's part of being a performer ? I might have added that I like to see her getting better, too. I can't wait to see her doing different things, which could be possible if she had a full album (if she sticks to minis, she'll have the same "I'm so powerful" songs made for Korea). She's still quite new, actually.

Date: 2013-09-15 02:34 am (UTC)Also, she's powerful and beautiful and one hell of a performer but when I see the same thing over and over again I tend to lose interest. Also because there's soooooo much more to Ailee than just her being able to hit some notes or do runs instead of finish the song.
In all honesty, I'm not sure if the votes were right in this sense. I don't think Exo was necessarily better, but I don't think Ailee did better than Exo (even though I think there are wayyyyy to many of them on such a small stage)

Date: 2013-09-15 02:52 pm (UTC)I agree with you though - I kind of sometimes want her to actually sing. I love her runs, but if she keeps performing like this on IS2 it'll get old (it's kind of getting there now). I really like her voice, I'd like to hear more of it.

Date: 2013-09-15 10:45 pm (UTC)Also ....ngl Exo probably got such a close score to Ailee because of the amount of Ahjumma fans in the audience as well as the little high schoolers who were voting in the audience. I'm kind of disappointed IS2 has come down to this because their first episode in IS2 (with Baekhyun and Chen) was so professional. It's just disturbing to see something so .... I don't know...usually about actual talent reduced to another mucore or another inkigayo makes me upset.
EXACTLY! I was watching her perform Heeya awhile ago, and I thought it was S O boring because all she does is run her voice. And I GET IT. But come on, Ailee, work on your vocal technique, work on your steady tones, and to be honest, really work on your sound quality.

Date: 2013-09-16 11:17 pm (UTC)Yeah, seeing all the fans in this audience made me do a double-take. I'm used to performances like this performance of Younha's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5rEad50fhI) on IS2, and while I realize that IS2 is about the whole performance and not just the singing (like I Am A Singer 2), the fact that they brought all of EXO out to essentially have four or five of them sing while the others are their back-up dancers... IDK ._. I just preferred the first EXO performance (Baekhyun/Chen) so much more, because that was just talent, not talent-and-playing-up-to-fans-for-screentime-and-votes. IDK. I know there's nothing wrong with what they're doing, especially from their perspective, but...if they want to do stuff like that they should stick to the music shows or the EOY Daejuns, because that's what this looked like.

Date: 2013-09-17 12:13 am (UTC)Definitely Ailee has a lot more room to perform and her newest mini-album Doll House was a SPECTACULAR mini album but as you said doesn't really show who she is as a singer but just showcases her voice. Which is great but when Wheesung get's back, I really hope he sort of changes things about and changes how and what she sounds like. She clearly has a nack for music, considering she wrote the English lyrics to all of her Korean singles but at the same time, it's figuring out how you want to portray your voice to others not just having other dictate to you (at least as much as an idol can do; but I think Wheesung is really cool about stuff like that)
E X A C T L Y. I loved loved loved the Baekhyun/Chen episode SIMPLY because it was a showcase of vocals. It told me who they were as singers and where they needed the most work. I think they should have come back JUST the two of them week 2 and 3 and really showed off their style a lot more. Baekhyun and Jongdae really are so young and haven't had any worldly experience which definitely shows but even in this Trot one, I think even shows improvement.
I think you're right but to a certain extent even Sunggyu in his performances used a lot of showy performances and showy antics to really get the crowd going and I'm all for that. I love that dynamic especially because the songs are all about showing off the Legend and if they can incorporate staging and blocking along with that without taking away from the performance itself. I'm good! I just wish there were less of them on stage. I'm all for a 12 membered group but even two weeks ago, their first large performance FELT MESSY. It was unorganized, not rehearsed properly. And this time around where they did seem to have their shit together it was almost ... still too much. Not only were there 8 of them on stage but there were seriously 4 other background dancers as well. And it was just a lot to take in at once. 3 different types of choreo, you couldn't really see where the actual singers were coming from. I don't know.
Also and as much as I love Lu Han and as much as I love Minseok, they both didn't need to sing last week or this week. I think if they were going to shuffle things around. They should have added Kyungsoo and made it a trio. THREE PART HARMONIES!!!! And reallllly blown away the audience. Kyungsoo's voice as a tenor and having them really just flower each other up and really just UGH I CAN ONLY IMAGINE. Or if they brought in Lu Han sometimes on the rare occasion and did a 4 part hARMONY?? Like they do for Open Arms?? I would die.
Also .... I'm not really sure if this was live as much as I wished it to be. I think it was live but definitely having their own vocals as backup helped them sound this solid. Because only in the Baekhyun/Chen one can you actually hear them breathing. And Idk maybe it's a techy thing or maybe it's just the sound master being BOMB at his job. But in reality it doesn't sound like they're actually .... singing?
((on a totally off topic note; BADA'S PERFORMANCE WAS SPECTACULAR. As was Bae Yumi and her entire time even though EXO was definitely their weakest link and should have gone first)

Date: 2013-10-12 07:16 pm (UTC)I can't agree with you more, and I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks Hyorin sounds thin and whiny a lot of the time - in terms of personal musicality Ailee might not really be getting there yet, but she has execution down pat. I'm hoping that'll come in time.
Messy and slipshod is sort of what I'd say for EXO's performance, yeah. IDK, I like performances that look pulled-together and whatnot, so things like their first appearance/Open Arms is really nice because everything works so well. It didn't sound as live as people are saying though, because I didn't hear breathing (but then I'm not the best judge of that so IDK).
BADA IS ALWAYS SO FLAWLESS AND EXCITED TO BE ON STAGE IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO SEE HER, it's a refreshing change. IDR if I mentioned this already, but her performance of Girls' Generation is my faaaavorite.

Date: 2013-09-15 09:15 am (UTC)And she SO deserved to win on "Immortal Song", because all her performances were breathtaking and beautiful. She is such an awesome performer (and that's just one of the many reasons why Ailee is awesome! <333).
