Ryu Shi Won (41) was found guilty of illegally tracking and threatening his wife, and was fined 7 million KRW (~6,443 USD).

Seoul Central District Court reasoned, "If you listen to the contents of the recorded CD which [Ryu Shi Won's] wife submitted, you can hear sounds of slapping skin. It appears that he slapped her face very lightly... It has also been acknowledge that during the heated argument with his wife following his installing of the illegal tracking device, he hurled insulting remarks and mentioned that he could get people to watch her.

"Even if the chance of him putting his words into action is very slight, from the victim's point of view, it is enough for her to feel fear... Even if he is her husband, there is no urgent need to install illegal tracking equipment on her car and cellphone, so it can not be seen as a justifiable act."

Ryu Shi Won and Ms. Cho tied the knot in 2010 and filed for divorce in March 2012. Ms. Cho then filed a complaint to the police against her husband for threats and assault against her. In response, Ryu Shi Won filed his own lawsuit against her and accused her of trying to stir things up to have things swing her way for their divorce settlement. The two are still in the midst of trying to work out a divorce settlement.

Is he the one that got caught trying to bury the body or the dui?

I remember that post from ages ago & couldn't believe that most of the people were still working in the industry

Nope he drove over a pedestrian and got away by paying.

"Actor and singer Ryu Si Won was nicknamed “Ryucifer” (Ryu+Lucifer) because he killed a person back in 1995; he accidentally knocked down a pedestrian while he was driving his Le Mans late at night. He was investigated but did not get charged against any crimes as he made a settlement with the victim’s family, but the tag of a murderer still follows him. Ryu is an amateur car racer and still enjoys his hobby to this date, which only fuels people’s accusations against him."

wow, I don't understand how you can get away with murder by simply paying the victims family money WTF, that's basically putting a price on someone's life :/

If it's an accident it doesn't make it a murder does it? Since there's no intent? But in Korea crimes are often written off with out-of-court settlements that they agreed on. Personally I think people have no confidence that the law will prevail if they take it to the courts, which is sad.

Daesung and/or YG also paid a settlement, I really hate when people call him a murderer when it's a tragic accident all around.

This is the law in the US as well, you don't automatically got to jail just because someone dies in an auto accident, it has to be egregious.

And I know ppl rant about blood money but its the same concept as a civil lawsuit for wrongful death. THey just cut out all the lawyers and court costs

Very slight? I would say it's very possible. This kind of behavior can easily escalate. No wonder she wants a divorce, she needs to get away from him ASAP. I feel bad for her, because I know I would definitely be scared if someone had threatened, hit, and tried to follow me =/.

officially on my k-drama actor shit list. How do you even slap someone light in A HEATED discussion!? They should have issued a restraining order, anger managment classes, and his ass can afford to pay a bigger fine!

You can tell they are trying to make his crimes seem less dangerous. He lightly slapped her, the chance of him acting on his threats was very slight, etc. It's really sad how they downplay domestic issues there.
