MC - Marie Claire
S - Sun
People often say, to challenge oneself and to accomplish, that is the privilege of being young.
However, few people will tell you that beyond seeking challenges and achievements, there is an alternative path.
Sun went against the norm and chose this path.
She is braver than some of the youths.
There are times when there’s a need to make important choices early on in your life. A 19 year old will need to select the college major that will determine his future. Many in their 20s will need to decide on their careers and their other-half, this is the harsh reality. Sun is the leader of an idol group who won the love and support of people sooner than others. This success is an envy to many, however, she stopped unexpectedly for love, and will soon become a mother to a child. A frontrunner might drop to the back of the race pack if they slow down, that is nothing surprising, but to stop completely and to walk out of the course is something unusual. Some people might think that Sun wanted a simpler life? To most people in their 20s, this decision requires a lot of courage. Over time, we will see Sun spending a more peaceful and beautiful life.
MC: It's been a long time since your last pictorial, how’s your condition?
S: Until now, there isn’t anything particularly uncomfortable, I consider myself healthy. Due to hormonal changes during pregnancy, it is normal to feel tired, experience changes in tastebuds, and become healthier. Even my usual anemic condition has improved after I got pregnant. The readings have returned to normal. I seldom eat Korean food in the past. My work schedules were packed. After I got pregnant I mainly eat Korean food.
MC: Seems like you can feel many changes after getting pregnant?
S: Many. In the early stages (of pregnancy) the skin produce more glands, during the mid-stages the skin become more moist. I used to have atopic dermatitis and the areas around my eyes will swell when it’s dry, but it is much better now. There’s also more freckles (laugh). I struggled during the early stages but I’m fine now.
MC: Any special sport or management that you did?
S: Pilates is more suitable for me, I used to do that but I stopped after I got pregnant. Everyone was telling me to be more careful during the initial stages of pregnancy so I could only stay at home. Mum doesn’t even allow me to carry the kimchi vat. I don’t need to do the laundry or the dishes, just be like a princess and work on my prenatal exercises when it’s time to do so. Mainly stretching exercises. I have been back in Korea for 3 months and I attended a 1-to-1 prenatal course. Once a week, an hour each time, and I can feel my body becoming lighter. My body’s center of gravity changed after pregnancy and I started to use the muscles which I seldom use in the past. This helps to loosen the muscles. Not long ago I started learning a husband-wife massage. I heard it is not that effective for edema but it is more useful for people with poor blood circulation. My overall health has improved, or rather, I can feel the energy in my body now.
MC: Hearing the word ‘husband’ coming from Sun is so weird. Isn’t ‘boyfriend’ or ‘lover’ a much better match?
S: Really? (laughs)
MC: You must be happy, being a young and pretty mom.
S: I’m grateful to be able to have a baby while I’m still healthy. We didn’t plan it and it is a blessing to us. It is amazing that a baby is growing every day, relying only on the umbilical cord. Our baby loves moving a lot, so during the ultrasound scan, the doctor told me that this baby is very active. That’s a relief.
MC: What does it feels like to be a mother?
S: It is the same feeling as a father, but a mother’s love is more special. The baby is in the mother’s womb for several months, so no matter how bad the kid is, the maternal love will naturally be there. Maybe because the baby is in me so it felt more real to me than to the father.
MC: It’s getting real.
S: Initially I didn’t feel it, but now I do. Am looking forward to it.
MC: Really not afraid?
S: Not afraid. This is something which all mothers will experience. I was born this way too and precisely because of this mindset, rather than being fearful, I am looking forward to it.
MC: Apart from the expression and the tone of voice, the aura from a person’s face can also make one feel comfortable. This is the Sun we are seeing now.
S: I lived a busy life when I was working. Living alone was part and parcel of it. Now that I am living with my family, there comes a sense of responsibility and also stability. Before marriage, many people said that I seemed brighter after meeting my husband. After marriage, I also often hear people saying they can see the difference in me.
MC: (Your) Life has changed. Specifically, what has changed?
S: I can’t believe that I can now occasionally take a rest . Maybe because I was too used to my previous lifestyle, there’s this sudden anxiety which as a human, is normal. But rather, because of this, I am more grateful towards what I am able to enjoy now. I feel blessed, thank you.
MC: What type of makeup style do you like?
S: Even though I do not like thick makeup, but as a professional singer, we often have to do that. Also because of the strong lighting, the skin tends to dry easily.
MC: Any preferred personal beauty item?
S: My skin tends to be dry. Sometimes there will be rashes so I diligently took care of this aspect. Even though it is expected, but make-up removal is still the most important. I always have mist with me.
MC: Preferred product?
S: ‘Moisture Bound Skin Energy Mist’ from Amore Pacific.
MC: Must-have item in pouch?
S: Mist and lip balm. I have a habit of licking my lips because my lips are thin and small. I apply lip balm often.
MC: After getting pregnant, any products that you continued to use? Any parts which you miss out?
S: Moisturizing cream. I have been using ‘cell-hydration moistuzing cream’ often. It is light and non-sticky to use even in the summer, that’s good. It doesn’t make your skin feels tight even if you use it with toner so I often use it.
MC: What kind of makeup when you are going out?
S: I do not like putting a lot of stuff on my face. Toner, moisturizing cream, sun block and sometimes I will use a bit of BB cream. I seldom apply foundation. Nowadays though there are plenty of light concealer products, but using it for long periods will feel stuffy.
MC: Do you often visit the dermatologist or aesthetic parlor?
S Occasionally when there’s things like pimples which I need to get rid of. As for aesthetic parlor, I will go for hydrating treatment. I still visit the spa which I used to frequent in the past for similar treatment.
MC: ‘Aging’ is not only important to the elderly. Rather, because one is young, there is more to think about ‘aging’.
S: There are many people regretting their past, people who are envious of the skin of those in their 20s, and that is because of the different perceptions towards beauty. Even an elderly with a face full of wrinkles will have something beautiful about her. Plastic surgery has been developing rapidly and there are more and more people doing it. To me, I feel that one doesn’t have to do it because as the years go by and the face matures, it will show a different kind of beauty of your age. That is more beautiful. If we say that the 20s have their external beauty, then those in the 30s can shine of maternal beauty and the increasing charm of a woman.
MC: When I was your age, I was attending lessons in school. Why do you have such thoughts?
S: The media coverage is wide, even the actors on TV does it. Taking my grandmother as an example, she exudes a charm and beauty that is of her age. I have confidence in myself and my current situation. Having natural and beautiful thoughts is better. Pondering over the past is not a good idea.
MC: An overly calm feeling. Doesn’t seem like old mentality…
S: It is still old mentality (laugh)
MC: Old mentality (laugh). Girls your age tend to be more interested in shopping, dating and career. Even if the decision came earlier than others, and not being afraid of aging, but there are is still a need to consider things which others your age have yet to consider.
S: The husband is responsible for working, so he handles the ‘big matters’, while the wife manages the house affairs, so she handles the ‘small matters’. Rather than thinking like that, I believe that a fit of roles will create a well-balanced, harmonious and healthy family. Now that I have a child, my priority is to raise and teach my child well. As for my husband, as long as everything goes smoothly for him in his work, I am fine with it. There are people asking me about plans 10 years down the road, I am not sure and find it difficult to answer.
MC: Still want to know, what kind of life do we expect from Sun 10 years later?
S: It has been reported in the media, I will be going to Haiti next May. This will continue. Might still hear about me in magazines or other media once in a while. There isn’t any specific plans so I can’t really say. Maybe I might even appear on stage again.
MC: Because of public interest and being in the public eye, there are some things which you do not have control over.
S: Although I am also working in the entertainment industry, but even hoobaes or sunbaes tell you that the action of the celebrities is largely determined by the public’s demand. People have different tolerance levels, but to see people suffering from depression, my heart pains for them even if I don’t really know them. I’m always thinking of how can I resolve their problems. It is very sad to have someone else determining your life. Sometimes I do feel like fighting against the idea. There’s a need to prioritize, even though things will change with time, I do believe there is a solution to all problems.

All I'm really hearing is that she's pretty much done with Wonder Girls.
