Chrome Entertainment responds to backlash after asking fans for monetary contributions for charity instead of gifts
Crayon Pop has been met with backlash once again, but this time involving the issue of fan gifts.
Chrome Entertainment posted on Crayon Pop's official homepage
"Hello? It's Chrome Entertainment. As much as your support for Crayon Pop is growing, the members are receiving many gifts. We sincerely thank you. As Crayon Pop rises in popularity, the scale of their fan base is rapidly increasing and it is sometimes difficult to handle all the presents, so we are writing this post to ask for fans' understanding. |
Despite their good intentions to give back to those in need, the fact that they did not consult with fans prior to their decision did not go over so well, especially with those who had already prepared gifts or was planning to gift the girls with items that did not have monetary value.
In addition, the wording of the post, mentioning a special bank account being set up and asking fans to send in deposits (despite the mention about it being used for charity), rubbed many the wrong way and raised suspicions of onlookers. Enough so that Chrome Entertainment has posted another message, revealing their intention to rethink their previous decision.
The agency responded, "We apologize that our post about gifting and donation caused fans concern, different from our intentions. We will reflect more on the content and we will review and announce a plan through which we can work together with everyone."

Crayon Pop has issued an official apology for their bank account incident.
The girls and their company received a lot of backlash after opening a bank account specifically for charitable contributions. However, the problem was that the announcement was worded badly, and the original announcement seemed to emphasize the part that the bank account was for gifts instead of the part that the deposits would be donated to charity.
Although Chrome Entertainment had already spoken up about it, the company issued an official statement saying
The reason why we decided not to receive gifts was because the members felt burdened when they received expensive gifts. |
What do you think about all that happened?

Crayon Pop dismissed rumors that they were funded by a chaebol.
Recently, the girls have been swept in rumors (see number 3) that the girls were backed by a chaebol (conglomerate). However, Chrome Entertainment explained, "We heard the rumors, but they are definitely not the truth. We do not receive that kind of funding."
They also responded to rumors that they had a political backing, and said, "That's shocking. Those rumors are unfounded."

Date: 2013-08-27 09:36 pm (UTC)I feel like the company didn't even finish their thought before they jumped on that one. Refusing ALL fan gifts and then setting up an account? They could have just asked nicely that the fans donate to charity instead of giving them brand stuff and other crap.... *sigh*
Chrome is great until they're asked to act like a mature company.

While I agree that asking fans to deposit money directly into a company bank account is shady, in principle most of us agreed that South Korea's fan-gift culture is messed up and charity donations are a better way to go.
