Choreographer J Blaze demands an explanation from YG Entertainment regarding the use of his moves

A few days ago, YG Entertainment hyped up their new variety program, 'WIN', with two videos showcasing the two trainee groups that will be competing against each other.

While the videos got fans and viewers pumped up for the show, it appears that the choreography for Group B has run into a snag. A choreographer named J Blaze has called out YG Entertainment for not getting his permission before using it in their choreography.

He lashed out on Twitter against YG Entertainment earlier today:

These choreographers make their contacts accessible on their damn YouTubes. How lazy can you be? Shaun is a bitch for instigating all this and not explaining purpose of the show. He knows damn well most kpop trainees do choreos for learning purposes and not actually trying to pass it off as theirs. officially on the shit list. As for J Blaze I get why he might thought otherwise, but still he was actually credited so don't see problem here.

J Blaze was completely within his rights. He wasn't even overly rude about it. When I first saw the title I was like "who the eff is JBlaze?" Once I saw he was choreo it was just like ...yeah that's a problem. There's a difference between a youtube cover done for fun and a cover that's put on national television.

YG Ent is making profit from the cover because it's on their show, therefore JBlaze should've been contacted, and should also get a bit of the check. It is his choreo. I'd be pissed as hell if I spent hours or days creating this choreo, and then I find out through twitter that someone in another country was showing it off on tv. That's MY time to shine and show MY baby off.

That would hurt my pride and I'd be a mix of pissed and sad at the same time with just the tiniest bit of happy. Sure it's great that his dance gets all this attention, but if no one knows or acknowledges that it's his, then what's the point? How can anyone be grateful for that? I wish these netizens would actually put themselves in his shoes, think about the work put into dancing, and really think about how they would feel if it happened to them, because I'm sure they would have some much uglier shit to say if the roles were reversed.

The thing is not everybody reads end credit (especially me, unless I really REALLY wanna know about something, and usually things that you really wanna know is not even included at the end credit).

As someone who watches the show a little (cuts and stuff), I was under the impression that the team came up with the choreo themselves. So, that's basically the whole problem.

You can't just take someones art without asking permission. He stopped asking about getting paid once he figured out what was going on. He just thought it was unprofessional to use his choreography without permission on national broadcast. People keep saying "It was just a cover", well what if he didn't want them using it? You can't use youtube content however you want just because it's out there.

I wonder what YG searches for on youtube whenever he wants to promote an artist. I imagine something like "hip hop, black people, sort by: top rated."

This was pretty tacky, imo. You're a huge ass company, if you can put them dingy fingers on a keyboard and search for his choreo, you can put said fingers and ask for permission or at least let him know. It's like copy&pasting someone's written work, getting it published and receiving attn/praise and then going to the original writer: "LOL but I mentioned you as an inspiration, chill."

Thing is all these kpop companies do this.

I remember Lyle was angry about Super Junior doing his Mic Check choreo on Star Dance Battle back in like 2010. I also think Shinee's Just Dance performance on the MBC gayo 2009 was taken from Lyle, but he had choreographed it to a different song.

I mean the covers done by Wassup taken from youtube as well as that choreo Hyuna did in one of her instagram vids came from Movement Lifestyle. I guess with Wassup and Hyuna's it was just a cover that wasn't done on tv so I guess it's not as bad caz there are people who cover choreo on youtube, but it's not aired on tv.
