MR.MR’s Changjae 1: A Curious and Responsible Kid
Everyday, it seems like new idol groups are constantly coming out. One might say “I can’t learn who is who," but if you look carefully, you can see that all singers have talent and extraordinary passion. The care they put into their efforts and music is proportional to that passion. Last year, groups that worked even harder came out. And they had a very valuable experience. They experienced not being able to survive if they didn’t work diligently, doing everything they could.
Mister Mister is one of the boy idol groups that entered the industry last year. Leader Jin leads Tey, Ryu, Changjae and Doyeon. As 5, they made their debut in October 2012 with the single album “Who’s that Girl." Now, these fresh, hot rookies are approaching their first year since debut.
The dream of those called “singers" is to build extraordinary dances and songs through their passion. They shed tears and sweat in the name of debut. What kind of events were there before they became Mister Mister? Let’s check the “Hot Debut Diary!"

Mister Mister’s Hot Debut Diary: First up, Changjae!
Real name: Lee Changjae
Born: November 29, 1991
Hometown: Sillim-dong, Seoul
Taemong (A dream a mother has before having her child): White tiger licking her ear
Siblings: A sister four years younger
Changjae’s taemong dream was one his mother dreamed herself. A terribly large white tiger pounced on his mother and then licked her ear. After that dream, his mother knew she was pregnant, and then Changjae was born. When they were kids, Changjae fought a lot with his little sister, but now that she is a 3rd year high school student, if she is studying too late at night he is the kind of older brother that will accompany her home safely.

»Why was I a very curious kid?
They say I wasn’t a kid who cried a lot. But, I was nicknamed “hammer hands." With just hands, I would disassemble and destroy many things. And they say I had a lot of curiosity. If you ask why, you can hear all about it from my mother. She says there was a day that we were riding in a car and she received a lot of stress.
One day, her home-schooling was ruined. While solving problems alone, I kept asking why 2 plus 2 equals 4. Ha ha. Even though it wasn’t a good idea, Mom and Dad listened; I think I was an annoying kid.
I liked playing outside. Since the time that I was a baby, I preferred outside to being inside home! Even so, my parents trusted me and I freely ran outside and played.

Once, I was at a kind of kindergarten festival event. I was a fearless kid. From my dad, I learned sports, and also was a ping pong and archery participant. Even now, if you arm wrestle with my dad, you win some and you lose some. I won for the first time in my third year of high school. My grandfather, on the other hand, wasn’t a father who did a lot of sports, and so my father taught me a lot about exercising.
We also went to the baseball stadium a lot since the time when I was little. There are a lot of memorable times that I spent with my father.

»My father is my role model
Looking at the past, I have a lot of memories with my father. I’m close with my parents like friends, and our family had a peaceful, happy feeling.
One very clear memory…at night my father was driving the car and the stars were still very clear up above. At that time, there was no navigation in the car, and even though he was using a paper map, he was really just following his own way as he drove. For whatever reason, the cars behind us began to follow us as well. Those cars were lost as well, and just believed and followed our car. Unfortunately, we weren’t going the right way either. Perhaps we now remember approximately where Hongcheon is, but the memory is really fuzzy. I’m telling the truth! I’m unfortunately someone with an awful sense of directions. Again, I’m really sorry to the people who followed us….

Even though I did things like travel with my family, I have the most memories of doing sports with my father. And so I received a lot of influences from my dad. When I was a kid, all of our photos were taken by my father. At home, we have 8 heavy albums full of pictures!

These days, I often think “I want to become like my dad." No matter what, more and more, I want to become like my dad. I cannot express it well, but I’m always feeling thankful to my dad and respect him a lot.

»Three Keywords to “elem-student" Changjae [T/N: 초딩 is a slang word that is a combination of the words for elementary school and student]
I went to elementary school in the area I was born, Sillimdong, until the end of my first year. From my second year, I moved to Bongcheondong. I transferred into Cheongnyong Elementary school, and at that time, I was a student who like both pranks and sports.
From my fourth year of school, I started to learn racquetball. I learned at a racquetball center, but also by my father’s advice. At first, racquetball was just my dad’s hobby, but I often went along with him. It was really fun. Honestly, there was a separate kid’s lesson, but I took the lesson with the adults. I even did well on the adult drills and training, receiving a lot of praise from my instructor.

Even now when I participate in sports, I really have a strong desire to win. Ha ha. I’ve even participated in some competitions and won. At that time, my dream was to be a racquetball major.
At the same time, through school club activities, in a traditional Korean music group, I learned fun parts of the traditional activities [these include instruments and dances usually, I’m not sure what part he is referring to]. I became pretty popular in my elementary department so I was made the leader. I also have a lot of memories of participating in this group. Through Aramdan [T/N: Essentially Korea’s boy scouts/girl scouts], I also made a cross country learning trip. During the trip, the organizing instructor appointed me a flag bearer, and while I received it willing, it was honestly very difficult. Even though I was on the tallish side, carrying a huge flag while leading at the front was not an easy feat.
However, even here my competitive spirit was aroused. Whenever something was entrusted to me, it seemed I really liked it. Because of that, I developed a strong sense of responsibility. Even though it was hard, while I was doing it, my feeling of accomplishment was good.

During elementary school, by doing a lot of activities, I enjoyed my time a lot. And I entered middle school, and reached the first turning point in my life.
A kid who asked why too much and followed his dad doing sports, receiving excellent praise for his skills. With vigor and a strong sense of duty during his country tour, he was assigned flag bearer and in his traditional music club became leader. After a truly meaningful six years, he fell into a new activity in middle school: dance. See part two to find out more about his experience with dance!

Definitely check out Changjae's cute baby pictures even if you don't read the article! But big thanks to DoReMiso for translating~! I'm all lazy now that I don't have to translate anything except for Show Kpop, but I'll probably make a MR.MR twitter post soon.

Date: 2013-08-05 05:12 am (UTC)This was so cute. I'm thankful that Changjae uploads these videos but :( because he's hardly in them.
I saw the baby photos but I had no idea it was for one of those debut story articles, I love those. I loled when I saw the photos of him drinking beer.
I’m telling the truth! I’m unfortunately someone with an awful sense of directions.
It's ok we can balance each other out :-)
