2NE1‘s Park Bom has recently been criticized for not wearing her seat belt.

The 2NE1 members were guests for the July 28 episode of “Running Man” for an “Alien Race” special.

During the episode, Park Bom and Minzy became a team with Yoo Jae Suk and Lee Kwang Soo. After completing their first mission, the four of them got into a car to move to the next location.

During the car ride, viewers spotted Park Bom not wearing her seat belt. This was even more noticeable since all of the seat belts had a yellow “Seat Belts For All Seats” sign fastened.

Everyone in the car, including people from the other team’s car with the other 2NE1 members, were seen wearing their seat belts but only Park Bom did not have hers on.

Although it isn’t against the law to not wear your seat belt in the backseat, there have been campaigns for every single person to wear their seat belt in the car, due to the high traffic accident death rate in South Korea. The Korean lawmakers are pushing to have mandatory seat belt laws implemented by 2015.

Therefore, viewers and netizens frowned upon Park Bom’s no-seat belt scenes.

After this became an issue, Jo Hyo Jin PD of “Running Man” commented, “Park Bom was wearing her seat belt at first. But there was a part where the car stopped for a moment and people got of the car, including Park Bom. After she got back in, she forgot to put back her seat belt. We will be more careful in the future.”

People can't just wait to get their panties in a bunch (edit:but unless of course you're promoting safe driving, then, well, it's just nagl)

I don't think it should've become an issue, but I do think it's important to always wear a seat belt. but she forgot so its not that serious.

Wait, it's not against the law to be without a seat belt in the back seat?

Maybe THAT'S one of the reasons why idols are always getting jacked up in car accidents...

I think it's a bit of an Asian thing. When I was visiting China, NOBODY wore a seat belt in the back seat. It was the weirdest thing.

What's weirder is people kind of took stop lights and signs and traffic regulations in general to be guidelines and suggestions rather than laws.

But then again, idols are in cars longer than most people... driving all around Korea to hold like 3-4 fansigns all over the place. :\

Well in my country, only the driver and the one in the front passenger seat are mandated by law to wear their seatbelts. I think Korea's the same. But yeah, it's a TV show. Might as well fake like you care about wearing a seatbelt in the backseat.

I mean she's kind of asking for the netizens to go crazy if there's a bright yellow sign on the seatbelt saying to buckle up.

Every time I read the word "netizen(s)" now it autocorrects to middle school aged Koreans in my brain. Making all articles I read here ridiculous.

we all know one story like that.. but i know many more where people crashed w/o a seatbelt on and either got flung against the inside of the car or through the window, and consequently suffered massive injuries that could have been avoided

The reason it was an issue in the first place was because that episode was specifically promoting a safe driving campaign (the yellow things on the seatbelts) and considering the volume of car accidents in Seoul especially, yeah I guess it was kinda dumb...

People should be wearing their seatbelts, but I don't think it's something to really criticise her about. People, including myself, forget all the time. Not at all saying/implying that putting on a seat belt is meaningless, they do save lives. But this particular situation shouldn't really be an issue.

Although, it is kind of a facepalm moment, seeing as how they're trying to promote safe driving. eh.

Also I hate being that idiot that bases shit off tv, but I'm surprised that ppl don't wear belts in the backseat in a lot of shows. Especially in taxis.

I'm really disappointed in Bommie both as a Blackjack and as a victim of a car accident... in 2006 I was in a bad one where I was thrown out of the windshield and flew 10 yards and landed in a small ditch. I was in a coma for 4 days and suffered from brain damage that affects the use of my legs and it's part of the reason why I require a round the clock caretaker. If I had been wearing a seatbelt I could be pursuing my dreams as a volleyball player.

When I was watching this episode on Dramafever I had to skip through the car scenes, it was extremely triggering and I had nightmares of my accent during my nap just a few hours ago.

ahh, wow. although i do think it is a big deal to wear a seatbelt, i didn't even pay attention to that! technically, though, she wasn't breaking the law. the law won't be implemented until 2015, so she was abiding by the rules. but...i guess that isn't the issue here.

thankfully everyone's safe and sound.

Idw to comment on the seatbelt thing coming from a country that doesnt mandate wearing a seatbelts. I think it's important but nonworth such media fuss but whatever

Just want to say this episode was painful to watch. Then i saw comments on NB and i had to ask myself whether i was watching something else entirely. Im confused. Cause i found if really boring and cringeworthy.

The only parts I found to be funny were Jaesuk getting high on his fanboying mode. However, the entire episode was much better than I had expected because 2NE1 usually bore me to death.

I'm slightly side eyeing the people who are passing it off as a whatever. Sure what she did was legal, but it wasn't safe, and she was being a bad example on the "Car Safety" episode. I don't understand why so many people just don't use their seat belts. It isn't exactly uncomfortable, and it generally isn't inconvenient either. Every time I drive, I always have to nag at my mom endlessly to make her wear her seat belt properly, regardless if she's in the backseat or not. I refuse to give anyone a ride unless they follow that simple safety protocol because I just don't want to take that extra risk. Regardless if the law says its legal or not, every time you ride in a car without your seat belt you are putting your life in danger.

IA. There are times when I leave the seatbelt alone though because my car sickness seem to become a little worse when I wear one sometimes. Then again, I don't have a car and rarely ride in one besides taking a cab.

Just recently, my friend got ticketed for not buckling up in the back. Guess where she's from? Korea. She was shocked and honestly thought it was more of a suggestion than law, so there's that.

I never heard of buckling up for passengers on back seats.
Well, my country has no law like that.
I googled it rn, it seems just recently that the neighbor countries installed it, so I think my country will too, soon.

Wearing your seat belts has been mandatory in my country for years so I'm always weirded out by Korean idols driving without seat belts in their vans (in fact many cars in my country even have sensors that start beeping loudly if you don't buckle up)
