Just wrapping up with Asia tour with two final showed to go, Shinhwa surprisingly found its name featured in US-based magazine, The Atlantic.

On July 23, an article by Amy He popped on The Atlantic’s website with the title, “What the Backstreet Boys Could Learn from K-Pop.” The article talked about how Backstreet Boys may be the longest running group in the history of all boy bands, but may be having a hard time gaining new fans.
Amy He referred Backstreet Boys to Shinhwa, who made its comeback in 2012 after a four year hiatus and still managed to gain new fans while rising to the top of the charts with its new albums.

“What the Backstreet Boys can learn from Shinhwa, then, is to get over the awkwardness of being grown men in a boy band and embrace the jokes thrown their way,” wrote Amy He, who added that Shinhwa was acting as a bridge to connect the seniors and juniors in a friendly way, despite Korea’s strict hierarchy rules.
“We’re very happy and a slightly feeling burdened that Shinhwa is being spotlighted in Asia and even USA,” said Shinhwa Company, after hearing about being featured in The Atlantic. “We will always do our best best to become an example to junior singers in the future and to let K-Pop known overseas. Thank you.”

Meanwhile, Shinhwa will close off its concert tour on August 3 and 4 in Seoul.

Article: Shinhwa introduced as a good example of a long run idol on The Atlantic
1. [+1,001, -32] Journalist doesn't seem to know Shinhwa all that well ㅋ It's not that they're willing to let their image go for the sake of changing generations but the fact that they've always been like that and have loved to joke around ㅋㅋ
2. [+674, -26] WE are~ Shinhwa!
3. [+548, -25] I've loved both Shinhwa and the Backstreet Boys since elementary school so it's amazing for me that an article like this is released ㅋㅋㅋ I hope both groups do well! Shinhwa-san! Trust in BSB!
4. [+75, -2] Shinhwa deserves a perfect attendance award from the music industry. These days, everyone's obsessed with making money and releasing single albums with 3-4 songs at most but Shinhwa has consistently been releasing full albums while still managing to win #1 on music programs.
5. [+59, -2] I'm not a fan but in a country where everything is moving at a fast pace and there are singers and groups coming and disappearing every day, it's amazing to me that there is still a first generation idol group who's managed to stay together and still promote.

BSB is just the same she doesn't know either of the groups she wrote about.

Date: 2013-07-26 10:12 pm (UTC)Shinhwa can get TV appearances/shows/performances more easily in Korea since they're sunbaes, but in the west people will be LESS likely to have the "old" "yesterday's news" pop stars on
But if you look at "serious" and "respected" artists in the west (ie bands) they all survived unless they themselves decided to break up, since people have respect for them - that's the position Shinhwa is in in Korea

Date: 2013-07-27 03:15 am (UTC)First, you can't compare the most successful boyband in the whole world to ShinHwa.
Second, they need to check their facts first before writing something that the whole world can read and judge.
Third, if they look at boybands at Japan, they will be even more shocked. Bands like SMAP, KinKi Kids and Arashi still consistently topping music charts despite being 15+/20+ y/o, still regularly come on TV on weekly basis because they have their own shows, and still selling out concert tours with big venues every single year. :/

Date: 2013-07-27 05:39 pm (UTC)I mean if a group is really good but the average members age is high (which is like +25yo for korean standards unfortunately lol) people kinda lose interest and go for someone younger
