I HEAR YOUR VOICE IN TALKS FOR EXTENSION
by girlfriday | July 10, 2013
Gah, you know when you SAY that you love something so much that you could watch it for a thousand episodes? I don’t really MEAN it, Show! It’s no surprise that SBS is trying to finagle an extension out of its new hit Wednesday-Thursday drama I Hear Your Voice — it’s cracktastic, and well made, and nearing the 20% mark in ratings (last Thursday’s Episode 10 brought in 19.7%).
The network is reportedly in talks with producers about a 2-episode extension, which would bring the total count to 18. Among the bigger factors are the scripts and the actors’ schedules, especially with Lee Jong-seok due back on the set of The Face Reader soon after the drama wraps.
The production has also been plagued with spoiler leaks online, and though the writer has said that she’s sticking to her story, this may open up a chance to throw the audience a curveball. Just yunno, let’s keep it this side of sane, yeah? I’m all for smiting the spoiler purveyors (Down with all spoilers!) but let’s not sacrifice the story in the name of vengeance. I feel like I’m back to talking Su-ha off that murderous ledge: Don’t hurt yourself trying to stop the crazy!
I rarely meet an extension I like, so I’m wary of anything that’ll drag the pace of the story down, and doubly so when it’s chugging along at breakneck speed like it is in Voice. On the bright side, it’s early enough that if they decide to extend, a reasonable 2-episode arc could be added, and at the end of the day, more of this drama’s cuteness wouldn’t really be so bad (…I say with all fingers and toes crossed).
If the extension goes through, that’ll push the Hong sisters’ Master’s Sun another week, till early August.
*NOTE/UPDATE FROM GIRLFRIDAY ON EXTENSION:
A note about the possible 2-episode extension: the network jumped the gun to announce that it’s been confirmed, but so far the decision is still pending. Producers say they’re still considering it and working out actors’ schedules, but nothing’s final and the stories are still conflicting. I’ll keep you posted.

Date: 2013-07-12 01:53 pm (UTC)The thing I love most about this drama is that it's repeatedly keeping us on our toes and throwing these revelations that we didn't expect at all.
I seriously can't wait to see how the past all fit together (especially with lawyer shin's buddy and the woman he bumped into at the hospital).
With so much left that they
have toshould answer/reveal, I sort of hope there's an extension for the chance to have everything fleshed out more...but then again, extensions aren't the best when it comes to kdramas :(no subject

This! I always considered myself as good in predicting drama plots (lmao) as I'm watching them but IHYV has proven my speculations to be wrong for so many times already. I always had mini heart attacks while watching this show D:
oh, that woman was cruel to Hwang Dal Jeong daejcfbaekvua. She's his wife, no? Hwang Dal Jeong has being imprisoned for years for her "left hand murder". I can't wait for the past to fit all together too!

Date: 2013-07-12 03:07 pm (UTC)LJS just brings it every episode, and Hyesung is such a fantastic and refreshing female lead. That scene when Suha finds her at the fridge was like literally perfect.
Ugh. I really super love the writing / pacing / acting and I'm praying the extension doesn't screw that up :/

Date: 2013-07-12 03:25 pm (UTC)The mortified look on Hyesung's face at the fridge was gold. lmao.
I'm praying the extension will not happen for real.

Date: 2013-07-12 06:21 pm (UTC)but let's be real, with the Hong Sisters drama coming and Heirs coming after that, there are not enough awards to give out to young actors at SBS. The only way a midsummer drama has any chance at year-end awards is if IHYV manages to cross 30% in ratings.
Which is a real, real stretch, to be honest. (I mean I want it to happen, but I'm not sure it can.)

Date: 2013-07-13 01:30 am (UTC)I know it's rather a stretch / the chance is very slim for him to bag the best actor award but I still harbour the hope that he does. He needs to be recognised for the talent that he had. ;A;

Date: 2013-07-13 03:24 am (UTC)The boy is looking so exhausted in Ep.12 though, I'm not sure if I want him to work himself to death.

Date: 2013-07-13 09:02 am (UTC)Yeah about him winning any award, I think for now I should be happy if he ever get the chance to be nominated and hopefully he'll have other blockbuster projects the next year and maybe, win any award for them.
He's looking so thin and lethargic in ep. 12. He needs a very long, good rest but we know he won't be getting much till No Breathing wraps up, no? ;____;

Date: 2013-07-15 05:45 pm (UTC)Seeing him in another non-lead role would be weird too lmao, I'm pretty sure I'd focus way more on his sub-plot than the actual drama.

lmao me too bb me too! and if he's the 2nd male lead in that drama, I know from day one whom I'm rooting for. xD
Yesss, I'm happy that he's getting really popular now but we know that he'll still think that this popularity he is having at the moment is just like a bubble that'll burst anytime :( I love the humility he possesses and how grounded he is but boy need to have more confidence in himself sometimes. ;A;

Date: 2013-07-12 03:38 pm (UTC)SCREAMING
Suha begging Hyesung not to go, to not hate him. Ugh I was this close to tearing up.
The flashback scenes were really intense, Jongsuk continually amazes me...like I was genuinely freaking out on his behalf while watching. AND FAJDKGNLKFSJF THAT BACKHUG. I'm glad she didn't shove him away out of habit.
This is the turnaround I've been waiting for with Doyeon and Hyesung, I want them to be BFFs by the end of the show. And it's cute how Hyesung and Lawyer Shin aren't bickering like kids anymore, the door scene was hilarious. I'm also gonna need Choongki to TELL SEONGBIN HE LIKES HER ALREADY.

Date: 2013-07-15 05:48 pm (UTC)I liked the door scene with Lawyer Shin!

Date: 2013-07-12 05:16 pm (UTC)I say no extension. If they want to do a special afterwards sure. Like an epilogue episode or two great but when they try and stretch more material out it gets bumbled up in confusion. However, I'm always down for happy dating/family after scenes which we hardly ever get in dramas.

Date: 2013-07-13 10:27 am (UTC)I love Lawyer Oska but it annoys me a bit how persistent he is and when he said those stuff to SooHa. At least he knows that was a low blow, but still.
I don't want Hwang Dal-joong to die ;_; and I want him to have a happy ending OTL I hate Judge Seo with a passion.
I can't get enough Yoo-Chang. He is my favorite!

Date: 2013-07-14 06:00 am (UTC)I don't see her really having romantic feelings for him. Again, mother/son relationship. Yet, I think the writers may be going the opposite of that. My poor Lawyer Jang/Cha ship. :( Although sometimes it seems like the writers are pushing the lawyer ship. Like when Lawyer Jang is crying in the bathroom and Lawyer Cha finds out and cries in the hallway while listening because imo his heart breaks for her. The same writer changed ships to a more popular one in Dream High, so I think Sooha/Lawyer Jang may happen here too. Oh I must admit I did squeal at the super cute and sweet Sooha/Lawyer Jang moments of the back hug and kissing her hand while she's asleep. Those really make me feel for him seeing as I think his affections are misplaced. We have never seen or heard of his mom. If we had and she was in the picture at some point, I think he would be able to recognize his feels as those towards a mother.
I totally knew there was going to be a family connection to the case all those years ago and with Mingook. I just knew it. I loved the scene where Sooha gets all his memories back. (Btw Jongsuk looks really good in the shots when he running full tilt down the sidewalk because of his tall slenderness.) His eyes rolling back in his head were amazing when he got the nosebleed. I find the acting in that scene so very wonderful. Lee Jongsuk is a very great actor in a variety of scenes actually. Like in the underground parking lot scene with Mingook and Lawyer Jang (so many different emotions displayed in one scene!), the catching Lawyer Jang eating at the fridge, lost little puppy with amnesia, etc.
I don't like how Lawyer Cha was portrayed when he was in the cafe counseling Sooha and stating how he is going to fight for Lawyer Jang. I understand he has to put his foot down at some point if he wants to have a chance at winning her heart, but I think it was a little too harsh coming from such a nice guy. Sure Sooha has become an official adult in terms of age and is no longer in his school, but I think there was a better way for Lawyer Cha to state his stance. This is one of the instances where I think the writers are pushing Jang/Sooha.

Date: 2013-07-14 06:09 am (UTC)Judge Seo is becoming more and more of a villain. I bet he was more involved in Daljoong's case than just as the preceding judge. I wonder if he gave advice to any of the people involved. Ooooh! I wonder if he has a connection to Sooha's parents. I totally think he does now.
The extension. On the one hand, yay more I Hear Your Voice and Jongsuk face and acting. On the other hand, extensions in Kdramas usually aren't very good because things are added in that aren't in the original plot outline and don't mesh too terribly well. The plot could get dragged out for an unnecessary mount of time here too. The writers have been doing a good job so far, therefore maybe the extension won't be that bad.
(Can you tell I get way into the dramas I watch as they air? lol I hope no one minds my extra long comments.)

Date: 2013-07-15 05:32 pm (UTC)the good: don't stay up all night marathoning dramas
the bad: cliff hanger episodes where I have to wait a week to find out what happens, don't know in advance if a drama will be consistently good, so many go downhill in the later episodes
