Entertainment agencies have begun to force an 'Ilbe ban' on their idols due to the increasing amount of celebrities who have tarnished their images by misusing a term from the internet website.

JYP, an agency that houses miss A and 2PM, spoke with 'Sports Kyunghyang' in an interview and said, "We're monitoring their activities consistently. We all know what kind of place Ilbe is. We're making sure that none of our members are visiting the site and are also observing our trainees."

Another associate of a different agency added, "When idol stars interact with their fans on message boards or SNS, they pick up and start using words that they don't know where it's originally from. We've warned them all to be careful."

Other entertainment agencies have gone as far as to create a list of Ilbe terminology. A large entertainment agency said, "There's a chance that idols might use these words without knowing the meaning so we made a print out of a list of words like 'nomu nomu' and 'democratization' and handed them out to all of our celebrities."

Agencies are also making extra sure that their celebrities aren't being advertised on the site. On the 1st, an A Pink ad came up on Ilbe, causing a controversy over whether the A Pink members were Ilbe users as well. A Cube was quick to clarify, "The ad was not placed by our company or their official fanclubs. It seems that A Pink's anti fans placed the ad. We have already requested that it be taken down."

They should have done this earlier. I guess Hyosung's incident finally taught them

what did this person do?

hyosung used the word democratization on a radio show and it just stirred up a whole mess of controversy of whether or not she used the site. the term is very offensive to koreans due to the context it's used in on the site. illbe is known to disrespect such things etc etc. people were up in arms against her. more info here: (comments may also add more explanation)

can someone tell me what nomu nomu means because in my head I am like nom nom nom nom

Date: 2013-07-12 01:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] noirsama.livejournal.com
yeah, i thought it only means like "really really" since nomu means "really/so/very" ?

Date: 2013-07-12 02:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] clayray3290.livejournal.com
So the correct spelling of "really really" would be 너무너무, which is pronounced nuh-moo nuh-moo. But as I understand it, on Ilbe, they altered it to be 노무노무 (the nomu nomu) to also dig at the former president Roh (Pronounced Noh) Moohyun.

Ah, thank you for explaining, I was really confused about that one

I guess that makes sense but I probably need more context and a usage in a sentence to really get it I think

Might as well just forbid idols from using the Internet cause certain term/phrases can be found on any site even it that same term/phrase originated/became altered at one particular site.

That or just don't do interviews.

If these terms are so sensitive surely the idols should already know? Or are they really that ignorant.

I follow this korean girl on tumblr and according to her Hyosung had to know what the words meant because not only is it common knowledge that those words cannot be used, but she also did very well in school so being ignorant is not an excuse.

Well you can do well in School and still be pretty ignorant.

Date: 2013-07-12 05:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] digitalqueen.livejournal.com
you're right, but there's still common knowledge that the words are no no.

I am curious...

What happens if they don't actually teach those words in school because they are a 'no-no' ?? Like how teachers don't use bad words but students learn them anyways from outside.
Maybe idols don't know these words because they were never thought them and also don't learn them from anywhere because it's such a taboo that no one uses them.
Then when they interact with fans on SNS and such they come across iilbe's who may be fans or the site or meet someone who is an ilbe but that person doesn't reveal that they are ilbe and end up picking words from such sources. They may know their countries history but they may not know that these words are used in that context and may take a literal meaning to it.
So even if Hyosung did well in school, she may have never known that these words are ilbe and that they are related to certain things. She may have taken the word for it's literal meaning.
Then rather than ignorant wouldn't it be lack of awareness on ilbe words and what excatly ilbe is??
Of course, that's why educating idols what ilbe words are important and agencies are doing the right thing by educating the idols on whats wrong.

But I am still confused as to how she never got caught before!? I mean if she is that misinformed about the word then when she would have used it personally and not in front of the camera wouldn't somebody by now have told her what it meant and that she's using wrong words. The other members seem smart or some staff should have noticed her use the word and stop her then and there. I feel so bad for her and Secret...
She will be labeled as stupid and Secret as an ilbe group :*(

Hmm.... Yeah, it was probably a slip up. It's sad to see how an idol can destroy their careers by one mistake. I guess she should have just stuck to using simple words than going for big complicated words :/

Well, I guess your right but still this is not the last time we see a idol screw up. Hopefully such incidents will reduce.
( Just being really hopeful in wishing that Secret recovers from this )

I feel this is kind of relevant. If you're sheltered and ignorant enough of the outside world, it's entirely possible.

It is a little tricky to keep up with all these new words. It's like trying to stay on what's the latest hot internet meme all the time. After a few orlyowls and lolcats you just want to give up.

This really bothers me because it just feels like such a violation of their privacy. What they choose to support politically and what have you is their decision, no matter if I agree with it or not. I can understand upholding their image as idols, but they should then just be educated on what things are acceptable to say or not. Not ban them from websites.

surely there's a difference between political allegiance and trolling on the Internet, making fun of the dead and degrading a group of people based on gender and hometown for fun.

because despite what ilbe claims, ilbe is NOT a politically conservative website.
