Wonder Girls’ Sunye recently revealed her plans of going to Haiti as a missionary. A representative from her agency, JYP Entertainment, addressed the matter with TV Daily through a phone conversation on July 10. The representative said, “After Sunye got married, she told us that for the time being, she’d like to focus on her marriage life. It’s not necessary for her to discuss her personal life with us. The missionary plans are part of her personal life, so we didn’t ask about them. It’s something we don’t really know about.

In regards to the other Wonder Girls members, the representative said, “This doesn’t change the plans or activities of the other members. They’ll continue with their activities.

On June 20, broadcaster Lee Mina tweeted about her meeting with Sunye. She said, “I’ve wanted to meet Wonder Girls’ Sunye for a while. It was our first encounter but we sat for a while, not noticing the time go as she talked about God’s grace. It was a wonderful time.”

She also said, “Six months after she gives birth, Sunye will be going to Haiti as a missionary. She wants to use her gifts for God, and she has such a beautiful heart. She is so humble and caring.”

Haiti is the place where Sunye first met her husband, James Park, who is a missionary. Currently, they are visiting Montreal, Canada. They were wed in January of this year.

Wonder Girls' Sun and her husband James Park will be leaving Korea for Canada during August.

Sun's friend told Star News, "Sun and James Park are planning to go back to Canada next month. Since Sun is going to be giving birth soon, so she'll be focusing on her pregnancy for now."

The pair were already planning on giving birth to their child in Canada because James is a Canadian citizen. They had also spent their newlywed days in Montreal. She was in her 5th month in May.

Another friend said, "I'm going to be having the last meal with the couple before they leave. I can't completely know what her private life is like, but she's spending a good time with her friends and family."

I kind of saw this coming. I mean she's a wife and a soon-to-be mother; not only that, she and her husband seem dedicated to their missionary work. It was what brought them together after all. JYPE really should've handled the situation better for the Wonder Girls. They should've anticipated this and planned accordingly so that WG either continues (as four or with a new member) or the other members have a shot of continuing their respective careers solo.

Then again this is JYPE we're talking about. Land of idol-dungeons. Miss A has been MIA for the longest and this setback just seems like the final block in a tombstone for WG. :(

miss A were last active in October/November of last year. They do need more activities but I hardly call that MIA??

My mistake then. I don't remember enjoying their October/November comeback so I more than likely ignored it and so it feels like they've been gone longer.

just forget what the knetz say and put sunmi back in the group and promote as 5. its not like they'll lose fans over it [and even if they do, it wouldnt be the first, second, or third time they've done so].

Too bad that they have less than a year to promote as a group even if they regroup since most of them their contract will be ending soon. Even if they renew, which is unlikely, I doubt JYP wants to let them come back. They could have done so since she announce her marriage, but they didnt.

i forgot about their contract ending soon...

jype couldve atleast done a proper goodbye comeback before all of this mess happened instead of stringing ppl along tbh, all it did was cast an unnecessary bad light onto sunye

To all the haters: "Haiti is the place where Sunye first met her husband, James Pak, who is a missionary." This is why she would go their with a month old.

I've been so out of the kpop loop this year... Are the Wonder Girls pretty much dead as a group?

idk at least JYPE can grow a pair and say WG is done and the girls will be solo or that Sunye is with her new life, but there is an open door to come back until then WG will be moving forward.

but this statement of theirs and her plans are why Sunye is getting called selfish by k netizens.

i find it so bizarre that netizens are calling her selfish because she wants to be a wife and mother

they're calling her selfish because she won't leave the group officially though. i guess they see it as she gets to live out the life she wants while the other members are forced to sit by and wait indefinitely

They netizens ought to know the person who can settle this situation is JYPE. They can kick her out if they want to continue promoting the group. JYPE can do something but they are not doing anything. Is Sunye so powerful that she has to settle this group thing herself? Sunye is a member of WG, she is not the one who owned WG.

this is not my opinion but i've read many comments that it was stupid of her to do this because they apparently have/had(?) a year left on their contract. they wanted her to finish until their contract ended i guess.

My guess is that WG is done. There were already rumors before Sunye announce her marriage that WG is done. People were even touting their Wonder World Tour in Seoul as their LAST concert ever. And during their last trip to China, the China JYPE staff were saying they will never be back and even had a farewell party for the girls. It is clear that WG will never be back (except maybe for some special some time much later). It is the fans who can't accept and don't understand. And if they don't get their WG back, they start blaming.

I don't think Sunye will be fazed by this backlash because Wonderfuls are known to be blaming Sunye for anything that goes wrong with WG. When Sohee was rumored to be outcasted during their debut, fans were scolding Sunye. When Sunye pick up a solo CF back then, fans criticized her for being selfish and accepted an offer which was only for her. When Sunmi left, fans criticized her for not 'saving' Sunmi because they do not believe Sunmi left for study. When Lim joined, everyone hated Lim, and they critised Sunye for always being with Lim.

I think when JYPE and WG planned for this, it was in the best interest of the company and members. They took the opportunity to say WG is going on hiatus and member to carve a name for themselves individually. Noone wants to admit WG flopped and so they are disbanding.

Even if they do disband, I don't think it's because they flopped. I do think it's because Sunye, like she said, now has non-entertainment priorities and a family. I am not blaming her at all because I don't think there's anything wrong with her choice, but WG was created for and around Sunye. There is no WG without her.

From: [identity profile] muckyplush.livejournal.com
Ok, maybe 'flopped' is too strong a word. But the China JYPE staff told some fans "the Wonder Girls knew they will not be able to survive the next wave". In other words, it is best to leave when they are still acknowledged rather than when they are down in the pits.

Sunye's initial plan was to get married in May 2012 (a pastor friend of James shared during a service and some fans saw the video of the service), but she delayed it because JYPE wanted WG to continue. However, they failed to secure the distribution rights for their US album AGAIN, and the company, together with the members came to a conclusion. They will start on solo activities till their contract ends.

I don't think JYPE or WG members will ever come out openly to say they are not going to continue because they don't think they can make it anymore. They have pride too. And upon hearing these news, China fans were hurt too and refuse to acknowledge it. This is why they kept mum about it. And if you look at the whole saga of Sunye getting married, to giving birth to being a missionary... in the China side, the comments were very positive and in fact, they were praising Sunye. They know what was going on and they don't blame it on Sunye.

Oh I can agree that it was a commercial flop. As a big fan I held out on calling it that until I knew w/ a good amount of certainty that they would no longer try, and now that I do, I can call it a commercial (personal growth not included since that imo was a success) flop. I was saying that if they disband that wouldn't be the reason, but simply because they had each grown up and found new things that they wanna focus on at the moment....Sunye being the first and the most substantial since her priorities right now reside outside of entertainment.

Ikr. I am always with this believe that they achieved much more with their US/world experience than promoting in Korea.

it was obvious that wonder girls were done when she announced her marriage. i don't see them adding another member and trying to plow through like jewelry did with their ever-changing line-up. jyp was dumb as hell trying to bring the girls to the us when their popularity was head to head with snsd in korea. D U M B.

i feel bad for the newest member they added, i don't even remember her name but her idol life-span was short and mostly unnoticed.

I am sad their US endeavor never fully took off but even as a fan, in retrospect, I'm glad they tried (and not just because it meant I got to see them live a few times haha). They made some kind of headway for Korean/Asian artists and you can tell through all the jet-setting that they really grew as individuals/got to live as regular people.

they don't really have to be together to promote as a group. and if sunye is ready to get back to being an idol, i'm sure jype can arrange something. i don't think it's necessary for her to leave the group. or for the group to disband. but it's important that the other members have solo activities that will keep them relevant to the public. they'll comeback when all are ready to comeback.

I just hate how JYP has... destroyed the WG. They were at the height of their popularity and he just pulled them out of Korea for two and a half fucking years. They came back with two good albums, but the promotions were pretty lackluster. A shame things had to go like this for them, but the girls don't seem to sad about it.

I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN

UGH

I was hoping she would be the one to break down the barriers of women in k-pop as far as married artists/mothers but I cannot fault her for wanting a life all her own, nor do I think the other WGs will hate her over it. It seems like the end and it if is they had a really good run but if she is done with music then I won't pretend I won't miss her :/
