Gruesome teen's murder horrifies nation

A 19 year old male teen was arrested for murdering a 17 year old female. Police received a report from her parents on the 9th saying they could not reach contact with her. Police narrowed the suspects down to a few until the teen turned himself in on the 10th.

According to investigations, he had called her out to a motel with the intent of raping her. Once she began fighting back, he choked her to death.

He confessed that he decided to cut up her body and leave the motel once he was sure he killed her. He went to a nearby convenience store to buy some knives and came back only to find that they weren't sharp enough to cut through the body. Desperate, he began cutting pieces of her skin off and flushing it down the toilet.

Her face was severely mutilated to the point where the majority of the skin was gone and the bones were broken and separated into 20 different pieces. Police suspect that he went through three knives to achieve this.

He then left the motel in the early morning to purchase plastic bags and checked out with the body parts after a total of 16 hours. He grabbed a cab and went home and left the bags inside a container in front of his home.

I was watching "I Hear Your Voice" and this this twins mueder a man and got 10 years of jail but one gut said that if the twins had confesed and said they will reflect on it would have gotten only 3/4 years i know its a drama but I wonder how true that is and since this guy turn himself in will he get less time by aying that he will "reflect" on it too

On one hand I agree with you, because going through that kind of thing while alive has been done and I imagine would just be so much painful and traumatic for the victim.
On the other hand, death by asphyxiation is one of the absolute worst ways to kill someone. It takes a much longer time than people usually realize to die once your oxygen supply has been cut off. Chances are that she wasn't even truly dead when he started cutting her up, just unconscious unless he really knew what he was doing. She could have actually died of blood loss if she hadn't died.

At first, I didn't even know what to say except RIP for the victim.

Obviously this guy is pyschotic, but I find it really confusing that he turned himself in? I guess he has enough sanity left to know what he did was wrong (morally and/or legally), but not enough sanity to stop himself from doing it ugh.

Sometimes, I wonder if there are drugs effective enough to help people like this, and if there's not, should we just give them the death sentence?

Edit: On second thought, maybe he just turned himself in to try and shorten his sentence, because he knew he'd be caught anyway. Disgusting if that's the case.
