Wonder Girls’ Sunye Plans on Going to Haiti as a Missionary

After getting married through faith, Wonder Girls’ Sunye has paused her career to focus on her family. But now it’s become known that she might have plans to move to Haiti to become a missionary.

An old tweet by broadcaster Lee Mina on June 20 has been attracting attention. She tweeted, “I finally met Wonder Girls’ Sunye. She visited Spa The El with Byul. It was our first meeting, but we had a good time, even losing track of time talking about our faith and the grace of God.”

The tweet continues, “Six months after giving birth, she said she’s going to Haiti as a missionary. So beautiful to see her being careful with each action to not steal the spotlight from God. So beautiful to see her being thankful to be even going out on missions. She had so much humility and gentleness that her entire being was beautiful. I was quite surprised to see that the love of the cross was this big.”

Netizens were quite surprised with the news, but sent her good wishes, saying, “I hope you decide carefully. Be happy wherever you go,” “I guess it’ll be hard to see her as a singer again,” “I’m a bit sad,” and “Hope she gives birth safely.”

After meeting him on a mission trip in Haiti, Sunye married James Park in January and is currently pregnant with their first child.

I have a friend who is a missionary in Haiti with a company/group she created. They have so far created a school, working on getting a hospital set up, and currently battle the corrupt child-care services over there as well as try to end child slavery, which is really, really common, sad to say.

The girl is a genuine saint.

I mean that's a really noble thing to do and I wish her all the best, but I think my heart just broke at the fact that I'll probably never see my WG bias perform again or see WG perform together T___T *sobs*

Good for her. It's obvious that family and religion are the most important to her so she should go for it. I don't see her returning to the Woner Girls, but they as a group were pretty much ruined the moment JYP put them in the US. They'll never get their 2008 popularity back, so I wouldn't mind if every member goes and does their own thing.

I can appreciate their charity work but I absoloutely loathe missionaries. I saw one group of twats outside a gurdwara in India trying to hand out pamphlets to worshippers who were leaving. It was infuriating. And it just stinks of the whole colonial ~save the heathens mindset to me.

Like many other people in this post I really hate missionaries. I hate the idea of trying to convert and ~save~ people. It's actually quite disgusting. And going to a foreign country solely to preach is also disgusting. I love her but this really puts lead in my stomach.

Also the description of their religion in the tweet the woman made makes me uncomfortable as well. :| There's nothing wrong with being religious, and I'm happy it makes her happy and gives her meaning in her life. But just the presumptuousness of all of this...it really gets to me.
